On one hand, if I had knowledge about how I would die, I'd have no reason to ever fear doing anything else, since I'd know that it couldn't kill me.

On the other hand, knowing how you die could end up defining how you live the rest of your life.

Hell yeah i'd want to know how and when i die. That way when it comes around i can point and laugh at myself. Plus if i knew then i could thermite all my hard drives and what not before hand.

You seem to like to deflect a lot. If you're such a tough guy why can't you you just own up to the fact that you made a dickish comment? You don't "call someone out" on a statement like mine because I didn't say something with a definitive right or wrong answer hoping nobody would notice it. It was a tongue in cheek statement saying blowing myself up in a place of worship is preferable to a slow lingering death. Even if it wasn't and I was deadly serious, it's not "wrong" because it would be an opinion. And why would i be trying to deflect anything when i wrote it on purpose and i want people to read it? Also add to the fact i have stated on numerous occasions how i feel about politics and Religion, what on earth have i got to avoid, deflect, or be "scared" of?!

And as you say, It might not have been terribly amusing, but pretty much 90% of what I write isn't meant to be taken as a sterling effort to raise our discourse.

It's more a flagrant effort at keeping the discourse in the gutter.

Asimo, you do realize that matty has most likely been shot at by people of the same culture? Its his way of dealing with the anger he probably feels towards the actual dirtbags he was fighting, if he has to say stuff like this on the internet as opposed to gunning down a bunch of Muslims in real life then I would say that its okay. A lot of vets say that kind of stuff because its their way of dealing with anger., just ask a vet from the Pacific theater why he might hate Japanese folks or a vet from the European front why he hates the SS.

Given the lack of affordable medical care over here... something extremely preventable. Given my lifestyle, that makes it heart attack or stroke, probably in the next 10 years. I'm hoping it will be a big one; I wounldn't want to limp away from it.

Ok firstly I apologize for the delay in a response. This is partly due to having other obligations outside of dakka (hard to believe isn't it) and partly wondering if I should even bother re-opening this topic, but I thought "hey what's the worst that can happen. Also, I do want to say that my last post was not the most cogent or coherent. I was, to be blunt a bit angry, understandably so I would hope, and so my arguments or what I was trying to get across wasn't very clear. Two things I want are as follows: 1) to know if there's parity amongst insults on dakka or if only muslims are acceptable targets. If I has said "I would spend my last days stealing black people's tv's as payback!" Would that be acceptable? As long as we all get equal oppurtuninty insults then everything is fine and dandy by me. 2) I would just like a clear answer from you without walls o' text and abuse of the emoticon that says if you're just a straight up bigot you keep hiding behind you "joke" and seem unable to admit that you said something shouldn't have or you're just a hateful person.

Also as for the whole "calling out" thing I think "challenge your statment" would have been a better term.

What you don't seem to understand is that what you said wasn't really a joke it was more like...hate speech?...which I know sounds severe but right now I'm failing to conjure a better euphemism for your statment. Basically, you are indicting an entire group of people based on the actions of a few reinforcing a pretty atrocious stereotype and accusation (that of being a terrorist, not something most muslims take kindly to being called) then you wish violence on this entire group of people, finally to top it all off you decide to have this event on a holy day. Imagine if I had said "I would gas a bunch of Germans in a concentration camp to give them a taste of their own medicine!". I think it's clear that most people would find that statement not funny and just offensive to Germans. It paints them all as Nazis and then says they deserved to be harmed rather gruesomely. The same way you insinuated that all muslims are terrorists and deserved to be harmed brutally.

Being boring isn't against the rules and really largely irrelevant as is your personal entertainment. No one posts here to keep you from being bored. Either way that whole bit doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

It's pretty easy for the one doing the insulting to say "just tough it out". I for one get annoyed when people act like jerks, racists, bigots, and the like. This harkens back to the "calling you out" bit. If someone says something outlandish, racists, or what-have-you and no one challenges it, I think it brings down the whole quality of the site. Essentially you are saying something pretty bad and when some actually does challenge it, it's suddenly irrelevant and not worth discussing? It is your post, how is it suddenly not relevant to what's being said unless the post was irrelevant from the start in which case why post it at all? I didn't come into this topic going "man I hope I can find a post to get mad about". No I came here because it was an interesting question and sounded like it could offer some good readings. You get rather emotional and angry on other topics especially domestic/foreign policy threads, but someone getting angry at a hateful statment, which should be against the posting policy, is considered too emotional?

As for the last part about calling you up and sharing your military stories I can only assume it comes from some sort of feeling of superiority you get from flaunting your military status around (it does seem to earn you some sycophants) so I'll just throw this in here to put things into perspective. I come from what I guess you could call a "military family" and none of my relatives or other military family friends have come back from overseas with the disgraceful attitude you have. Also if you must know I was on varisity track and cross country so no club feet...yet. And I don't like Bono.

That's not really an excuse. I have plenty of family and friends who come back from tours and they don't act like this. Let's say I was mugged by a black person. Does that trauma get me a free pass to disparage all black people the world over and wish violence on them? Hating specific groups like the SS or actual terrorists is fine by me but I don't see how racist veteran grandpa gets an excuse because he was in a war. In fact if I did ask those people about their general feelings about Japanese or German people today and I got some racists garabge I don't think I'd just shrug it off or something.
