The ONLY way to get them to lower their prices is for us to stop buying them. The market will react.
But im sure the plastice has some sort of addictive quality to it.
Also they would respond by raising prices MORE.

I think what this hobby really needs is a new kid on the block. Privateer press is a great company and is an example of what you can do right in the miniature space, but unfortunately, I don't want to play "that" game. I wish they would do something more sci fi and I would support them.

As Warmachine gets bigger and bigger, GW will be forced to change their policies or face reduced profits. I have no interest in playing warmachine but support it for that reason.

It's hard to support where you play in AUS when they double the prices on you. I do a bit of gaming in GW stores but most is in mine/mates houses, none of us have bought anything since the GW Trade restrictions. No person in their right mind is going to support a local GW establishment when I could get a whole battlion force from ebay for the same price I pay for a Ghazzy in the GW store.
It would be different if some of the Australian based online retailers opened brick and morta game stores(E.g. Combat Company) who offer a nice 20% to 30% discount on most items, but I guess its just not viable to run a gaming store/space and offer those sort of prices. These sort of establishments seem much more common in the UK from what I've seen when I used to order from Maelstrom/Triple Helix etc (is it a requirement over there??).

I would love to have FLGS here. The best we have is a hobbytown USA which I still buy stuff from, even though they do nothing to support the extremely minor gaming community in my city. If I had the money, I would love to start my own store, but I don't. Appreciate the fact that you have somewhere you can just walk into with your army and play instead of a month of planning just to go to somebody's tiny living room and play on barren fold out tables.

I buy from two stores, both an hour away from me, or when I go on the road. I have a LGS a block away from my house-tonight was the first time I've set foot in there in 4 months, and I only went before because my roommate wanted to go. Why? Well, you may have noticed the 'F' missing in front of ' LGS'. It isn't as friendly as it used to be, lies to its customers and takes money for preorders, then tells the customers the product is out of stock and they can't get it yet (takes months). Usually false information to the customers. I've had friends taken advantage of in this way in this store. Tonight I went to ask about buying an OOP book that was given to the store by GW when they still did that-it was promo only, went to ask one of the owners, and the lady behind the counter (not the owner) ripped into me, telling me she wouldn't sell it to me because it might belong to someone-after I had already mentioned it was a promo copy given out by GW, yet I still offered to give the store money for something they got free. Thankfully the owner, who I'm still friends with, tried to help, but we couldn't find the book. Oddly enough, that was one of the more pleasant "feth off's" my friends and I have received there (from the lady). I don't buy there, because I don't play there. When I used to play there, I bought there-at full price, or at my discounted price when I worked there. Oh: last I knew my friend wanted to sell his share and get out, because he's disgusted with the store's activities-but he owns a small part and has very little say in it, but the other owners won't buy him out. If your store sucks, don't play there and don't pay there. Get online or find a better store within a reasonable drive. Also, only having two stores that I appreciate, I find I don't go out randomly impulse shopping-I go with a plan, get what I want, and leave-I won't make a separate trip in case they MIGHT have what I want and get sucked into something else instead when they don't. I play at home though, and when I don't hit up one of these two stores (one is closing ) I buy/trade online-my community is home, so I don't have a store to support. I treat the two stores an hour away as my FGSs, even if they aren't local. If you use the services, pay the price. If you don't use the services, buy online-no use hindering yourself for services you don't receive.

Tip #4 - Buy Mantic (and other alternatives), ask your LGS to stock them.
People wouldn't go online for discounts so much if the GW stuff wasn't so expensive.
I think most people would prefer to support a local store if possible, but paying full retail for GW is just too much of a kicker.

This, times a million. In the last 20ish years, we've had 1 local game store open at a time. There was a period of about 3 years where we didn't even have that. It sucked. It's pretty disgusting people here are saying "Well, I'll buy online and play in tournaments at the store where they can have my sweet, sweet candy and entry money."
You have no idea how lucky you are to have a venue. Don't abuse it.

Its not a matter of "abuse". its a matter of respect. If a store doesn't respect thier clientel, they can go hang for all we care.
I can relate to not having a local store, but then I can relate to having two stores that suck and end up dying the death of a thousand cuts while they Pee and Moan about why they can't figure out why everyone goes out of thier way 30 to 40 miles to another town.
Local Stores are open to make money, but theres a point where that fact can get lost while they stick it to the consumer and think that pushback isn't going to happen.
If I were to work a store, I might at least want to be civil, have stuff people want, and actually do something other then play a !@#$ing video game while I stink like a bad pile of stuff thats been in the toilet for too long.
Just a thought...
If your lucky enough to have a good store like some of the dream stores like we here about here once in awhile, thats your gold mine, though. Keep those guys in business, spread the word, and watch as you have people drive to YOUR store from fifty to hundred miles away....

I use Ebay alot, specially with the isle of blood box sets (as I play skaven) and needing 250 slaves alone (about 488pts total) paying GW prices for Clanrats to use as slaves or even finding enough people to go halves with on an IoB set is very impractical, but at the same time I can't help but buy stuff directly from them for a few reasons.
Firstly there solution to not making money seems to involve closing the store down were I am mondays and tuesdays to reduce employee salaries, as well as only fielding 1 staff member at a time. Long gone are they days when there'd be 3 cool guys hanging around to chat and play games with at all times of the day!
Secondly I guess because of ease and want for certain things, I'm patient person but sometimes I just want a model right there and then
beyond GW there aren't any nearby gaming stores near me which is bad considering I live in southern england and the closest place for me to play is an hour and a half trek to GW >.<

If I know someone uses the space at my FLGS and will only buy online, I won't play them or associate with them. If you are going to use the community they are helping to cultivate, pay the toll so to speak.
It's low rent to use the space and terrain at a FLGS only to not spend a dime there.

I haven't bought a GW product at retail in long long time. Most have been through online re-sellers and Ebay. There are more and more tournaments around my area that allow non GW products for proxies so that helps a lot as well (thank goodness for Adepticon!). I don't play GW exclusively and play other mini and board games. That's how I support my LGS- by buying everything else except for GW.

I don't understand that, though. What do you do, have them fill out a survey, or monitor thier purchases?
Thats a bit... extreme. I honestly don't see you as doing anything other then driving a wedge in an unsubstantiated issue. Point here being that your playing the same game. Does it really matter where and how rich the entery fee is to get in the door?

Yup. I only ever buy from ebay these days as I simply cannot afford to buy direct from GW anymore.
Plus I got sick of them ripping everyone off and pricing out thousands of people from the hobby. I think the final straw was the banning of the not-for-profit fan films...
But anyway, I have found buying unloved neglected models on ebay and refurbishing them has become a bit of a hobby in itself. I really enjoy it. To be honest if it wasn't for ebay I probably wouldn't be playing 40k right now.

No, we really dont need to support FLGS. If they want our business they need to be worth showing up to to spend our money.
We have done that in our house. Just got done with a warmahordes tourney. It was fun, with dozen folks showing, more afterwards for free play. Plus we could grill.
Who cares about prizes. If the tourney is worth showing up to, folks will come to the store to play in it. If not, they dont.

I completely agree, and collect many different systems myself. The problem is, as someone pointed out in another thread, you get a lot of gamers who play just GW, and don't touch anything else. On the other hand, the moment they break their 'duck' then they often get started on another 2, 3 or more.
This could be for any number of reasons:
- they don't have money left over for anything else. I could collect 3 or 4 other systems for the price of one GW core-army.
- because they are new into the wargaming hobby and aren't aware of other games
- they perhaps believe that because GW stuff is inordinately expensive compared to most other games, then by extension it must be superior.
- only GW games played in their area, or perhaps a small games playing community.

Paint stripping using dettol is really very easy, efficient and quite quick. I like being able to take something painted by a 5 year old and refurbish it. If I leave the models in to soak for a longer period it will loosen the glue up and it's quite easy to reassemble the damaged parts of the models using new bitz.
Obviously assembling from scratch isn't happening with the second hand models. But as DIDM points out not everything on ebay is second hand - infact you'll often find as many brand new unassembled models as their are second hand models. Strangely enough, sometimes you'll be paying the same price for brand new models on ebay as opposed to second hand models. Such is the way ebay works.

No its really not. Long bath in purple power will not only take off the paint, but weaken and loosen glue so things fall apart, and you can assemble them to your liking..... Many players arent interested in the things involved with public gaming... TFGs, spectators (who also tend to comment too much), shops filled with geek funk, etc. Same goes for tournaments, many people just arent interested.
There were times when I did both mini and RPG gaming in a store, but the best gaming Ive ever had was in a private home.

I am aware of that fact as I have been playing WM since day one.
And yes given the average lifespan of most non- GW miniatures games it has done well, but I'm not prepared to annoint it the "king-slayer" that some want to make it out to be just yet...
