Thanks ratch, that was kind of what I was going for though it was terminators I actually had in mind! I was picturing the future in T2 when Skynet had just produced them all and they were shiny and new, and deadly!

OOh now that you mention it, they do look like Terminaters more then Cylons xD

More updates to come this weekend as I am starting on all the vehicles.

Decided, maybe not wisely, to light my monolith with LEDs. Sorted out how to connect it all up but not entirely decided on what to light. I will light the top crystal and the portal but I dont know whether or not to light any more of it. What do you guys think? I've also realised that buting from maplin is a mistake, I have probably doubled the cost of the model already!

Well I have just spent the best part of a day trimming up and building a Ghost Arc! What a nightmare! There are so many pieces! Should get to painting it tomorrow hopefully.
I've also nearly finalised my list for Rapid Strike, Ive been play testing a bit and I'll post it up when it is done for your perusal and any comments.

Good luck at Rapid Strike, thats one of the ones I considered going too, hmm maybe next year when I have a more playable army.

Thanks Giraffex, The monolith is proving a little more difficult than I thought. Mainly it is placing the batteries, I thought I would have them inside the monoith but I couldn't work out a way to replace the batteries when they run out so I'm going to place them on the base out of sight on the board but if you pick it up it will be obvious.

Approved. Have you though of doing some red rods for the older nids?

I don't really know my way round a Monolith so wont be much help, what's it like underneath is it just flat?

Make one of the sides or the bottom held together by magnets. Should allow for ease of access and still hold together. If you do the bottom, make sure you strap the batteries to the sides or it will fall off every time you move it.

Now there is an idea! I haven't got any magnets and havent used them before but there is always a first time, I should buy some and have a play!

The hardest part with magnets is securing them so they don't pop off from the pulling force.

Pretty much. I used some overly strong magnets, and they will bust through the gs and glue in transport to and from games.

Any suggestions on where to buy? I know I can get them on ebay but Dark Sphere also have them.

I've used magnets to hold arms on my necrons for a while. I haven't had any problem with them pulling out. I just drill and hold them in with CA glue. (then primer and paint).

It's probably different if you are planing on mounting the magnets on the surface. I'm not sure if there is enough material on the bottom of the Monolith to drill into, but I have the feeling that more, light magnets will work better than fewer larger magnets.

Thanks Anpu-adom, as the base of the monolith is quite large that might be an idea but I'm not sure there is much to attach them to as the gluing points are quite small where they connect to the walls.

Right guys I need a bit of help with my tournament army list..... I am taking the Necrons and have made what I think is my final list. I would like opinions on what you all think as I have to submit it to the organisers later today, no pressure!

Here's the list;

Overlord Warscythe, Mind Shackle Scarabs. 115
Command barge. 80
Cryptek with solar pulse. 55
Cryptek with veil of darkness. 60
Overlord Warscythe Mind Shackle Scarabs. 115
Command barge. 80
Pulse Cryptek. 55
8 Warriors. 104
Ghost Arc. 115
8 Immortals. 136
5 Warriors. 65
3 Wraiths, pistol, coils. 120
2 Monoliths. 400

Total 1500 pts

The idea is that the lords stay in the command barges making sweep attacks with the Warscythes. The crypteks will join the Immortals and the Warriors. The monoliths will roll forwards to sit on objectives and be able to teleport in the warriors or immortals. The veil Cryptek also allows another teleport. The barges and ghost arc allow for more mobility and the wraiths are very quick also. I am kind of wishing I could fit some scarabs in as they are great against mechanised armies.

Any thoughts?

Thanks Hazzer, I should have some more photos up by the end of the Easter weekend. I need to kit bash another Cryptek for the list and build a second command barge as well as both monoliths but hopefully I can turbo charge my airbrush and get them done in time! I hope the army list works, I am a little worried that I will come a cropper with all the Grey Knight lists that are bound to be going to the tournament too, I don't really have any anti psyker stuff in there, some gloom prisms would have been nice. Oh well it is submitted now so it's kind of fixed, I would still like people's opinions though.

I didn't see this yesterday, you should have posted your list in the army list forum bit.

I cant advise on Necrons don't know the army list. On the other hand I've not seen many Grey Knight armies at tournaments usually just the one.

Anyway a bit of progress for you all as I have been a bit quiet over the last couple of weeks!

First up I have an old Necron lord, I didn't like the old head so I have updated him with a newer one;



I have started work on the first lit Monolith but I think I will have to buy some magnets if I am going to store the batteries inside.



Here is where the switch will be;



The first coat of the gloss black went on this evening;





I also started the first coat of gloss black on the Flayed ones as I hadn't used all the paint!



They aren't in the army list but I may as well get some paint on them while I can!

The tournament is fast approaching so I need to get a move on and paint these guys, hopefully I'll be in line for the best painted army!

Thanks for everyone's patients, I've been quite busy this last month with real life stuff, I even have a flying exam tomorrow so it still hasn't really let up yet!

How many minis do you have to paint and by when. Looks like you have quite a few and some electrical work. Once you get going though you should be fine.

Flying exam sounds exciting well for those of us not taking the exam lol, does that mean you will be able to fly small planes or passenger? sounds most interesting.

Well I have to build the army list above for the tournament, So I have nearly built the Ghost Arc, it is in bits ready for spraying before final assembly. The two command barges and the lords to go with them are under coated in the gloss black. The warriors just need the ends of their guns spraying and the rods put in plus some finishing touches like the eyes and cables and basing. The Immortals I haven't even built yet!, The Crypteks are built and gloss black. I haven't built the wraiths yet but they are quite simple. The Monoliths are trimmed up ready for spraying and putting in the electrics, I can't decide whether to fully light one and not bother with the others or partially light all three? What do you think GiraffeX?

As for the flying exam, it is a renewal of my Instrument Rating which allows me to fly in cloud and do approaches to airfields in cloud/bad weather. I have my commercial licence and I am an instructor too. I work for the British Army as a civilian defence contractor, I do the assessment and instruction for the people who want to be pilots for the army. Great view out the office window!

Sounds like a very good job.

In regards to the Monoliths I'd say either light them all or none at all, If you want a chance at best painted army they need to be consistent.

I'm looking forward to seeing some shots of them lit up

Ok the Crypteks and the command barges with the lords are all chromed up, did a few flayed ones while I was at it and also the death marks and the pratorians. I'm going to a bit more tonight and I will post up some pics. The barges look great, really Skynet!
