So third thread I am running consecutively with my other two so updates may be a little slower than I usually manage!

The idea, to make a Necron army in the theme of Terminator, all shiny chrome and stuff! I wanted to bang this one out fairly quickly so the majority of the work will be done with an airbrush using the amazing Alclad 2 paints. GW have released some really cool new models for the Necrons so I have been tempted to scratch that itch I had ages ago. I had already bought loads of the models so got quite a bit to be getting on with including 3 monoliths! I haven't decided yet whether to do their eyes green and keep all the green theme going or to make their eyes red and go with the full terminator theme. Please vote for how you would like to see them come out by posting!

So made a start with a test model which I posted on my Emperors wings blog and reposted here so you can see what I'm up to!

Did a base of scarabs as well to see how they would come out.

Obviously it's just the chrome layer at the moment but I will add more detail later.

So got some warriors, scarabs, a lord and some destroyers made ready for painting.

I lightly modified a couple of warriors to look like they were getting back up, just because it was cool!

So another project off to a roaring start! Just got to get into my signature now to update it with the new blog!

gak man! How many armies do you have going? I'm still trying to digest all of your Death Guard.

Lookin' fly. I don't ever recall seeing a super-shiny Necron army, should be interesting. As for eye lenses, green is the natural colour calling me but... red could be so kick-ass beyond belief. I suppose you'll be whipping out the Mr Sheen on them from time to time?

Thanks Eiríkr, had most of the army waiting to be built for about 8 years so don't think I rushed out and bought all these guys yesterday!

Well some progress tonight, I have been spraying that lot with the gloss black undercoat. I'll post some wip pics up later. Keep watching this space for another update soon!

In a funny twist and as strange as this may seem, Reaper Man 2020, I had a similar idea but without the cool paints that you have decided you use.

Have a look. Note there still isn't a good picture up of my minis yet though I hope that changes soon.

Thanks for dropping by, I've had a look at your blog and am looking forward to the updates, it will be cool to compare how we progress!

So managed to get a bit done tonight, did most of the gloss black undercoat but ran out of time so a couple need a final coat. First I took a pic of the test model infront of a black background to see if he looked cooler so here's the pic;

The gloss black crons;

Probably more to see tomorrow!

Hi guys! So did some more work today, got the chrome on and it looks great!

First up is the lord;

Here are the lot of them just sprayed;

The warriors are quite nice in the gloss black undercoat;

Much cooler in the chrome!

The Scarabs are cool as well;

The destroyers are gorgeous, especially the big areas at the back;

Next I'll finish them off with red eyes etc. I have managed to lose all the tips to the warriors gauss weapons which isn't very clever! Probably won't get much done this weekend as I'm up to see my brother.

So I didn't get as much time as I expected to paint tonight but managed to black up the lords cloak, put some shade in his recesses and some red in the eyes.

I really need to make the eyes pop more but they are so small, I'm thinking I might do OSL. Who votes yes?

I'm a little scared to do the OSL and I'm not sure whether to use the airbrush or the good old paint brush to do it. Better test it on the warrior!

GiraffeX wrote:These are looking really good.

Thanks GiraffeX, they are coming on quickly but at the expense of the other two armies I'm supposed to be working on!

Intersting look with the chrome. I would suggest some kind of accent colour to offset the chrome though otherwise it just looks like a lot of chrome! Maybe a tan or beige to really accentuate the shiny areas? As for the eyes, I would suggest making them a little brighter, maybe orange rather than red?

I think they look good as they are! maybe slightly brighter red, but with the OSL i think it will be really striking, looking forwards to seeing how you manage with OSL reaper, Whenever i try it looks like i just missed with my paint. =p

Thanks for the tips, I'll be trying some ideas out this week and I'll post up the results. With the eyes, I am finding them very small so difficult to give them a lense effect, we'll see what I can do!

Yes I know what you mean, I'm going to have a try with the airbrush first, lets just hope I'm not too heavy handed!

bryanisgone wrote:What chrome paint did you use and where did you get it? looks great.

The paint is Alclad 2 paints you can find retail outlets on their web site: http://alclad2.com/ You will need an airbrush and you will have to buy te gloss black to undercoat them and then the Chrome for over the top. I also bought the aqua gloss but I'm not convinced it is neccessary. Hope that is helpfull.

Thanks Hazzer!

So I was waiting for some body parts to dry for the Pre Heresy Death Guard and thought I would have a go at the OSL for the Necron eyes in red, I've tried to different techniques and both still need some work but i thought I would post the initial results so you guys could say which was best! I of course will do the lenses properly later but you get the idea.

1st effort;

2nd effort;

Once I get a few votes either way I'll reveal how i did each one.

I tried method 1 on a warrior too but tried to wipe some excess paint of his brow which took the chrome with it to!!

So let me know what you all think and keep an eye out for an update on the Death Guard blog too!

Looking good reaper, personally i like the first one, but having said that i think its a bit strong on the warrior, maybe slightly less coverage next time, but the effect is really good i think.

Ok clearly the 1st technique is most popular so I'll go with that! I'll do the lenses properly too and show you the end results. The first technique is airbrush (you had probably guessed that) and the second was a thin application of Tamiya clear red.

I still can't find the ends of the warriors guns so it will meen buying another box and press moulding the missing components! Damn I hate it when I loose something!

Thanks for all the votes guys!

A quick update, no pictures yet, I have been building as I have decided to play the Necrons in the up and coming Rapid Strike tournament at Spiky in Reading. I have built 5 death marks, 5 Triarch Praetorians with voidblades and particle casters. I haven't got any Crypteks so I used some of the spare parts from those two kits and some spare warrior parts to build two Crypteks. I might make more of them depending on how many I need in the army. I'll try and throw some pics up this evening but it might be friday.

Wow. Those are some shiny necrons! I'm glad that someone is going a different direction with them. Almost everyone I've seen is going 'ceramic' or non-metalic metal. Your lord looks great!

Looks nice. Shiny creates the image of straight off the production line. Ok its not to my taste, i prefer my necrons oily, dirty and old metal, but its bold and adventurous to try this scheme. I think so OSL around the green on the weapons would look really good. I'm subbed to this, keep up the work!
