First up is the command barge! Really worked well and as usual the pictures don't do i any justice.
Next the lords to go with the command barges;
Here are the kit bashed Crypteks, I've done five in total.
first one solo;
Finally the death marks;
So all I have done so far is the chrome and the red highlight for the start of the eyes, got to work more on them and then work on the weapons, green bits etc and possibly touch up some chrome in places.
Still got ot build the three monoliths, the Immortals and the Wraiths but I am making progress and more work to come on the weekend.
Better to sit quietly and look the fool than to open your mouth and confirm the fact!
Last night I put together the 8 Immortals and the 3 wraiths, they are ready for painting tonight! I'll post some pics tonight. Not long now the deadline is looming and I'm feeling the pressure.

Just got to build the monoliths now, I really need to finish this weekend! I'll post some pics up on sunday. Oh and had my first playtest of the tournament list unfortunately against other Necrons so an odd match and I lost mainly due to his scarab farm and my inability to roll anything other than 1s & 2s. Didn't fail a leadership test though!

So no surprise that I haven't finished despite devoting all of Sunday to the models! working every night this week to get them done for Saturday! I'll post some teaser pics soon. Lighting the monoliths is a mare! Oh and I now have an Imoteck with lit led eyes!
Better to sit quietly and look the fool than to open your mouth and confirm the fact!
So finished late last night and one of the monoliths is finished! Lots of work and I realised I should have sealed the chrome before assembling and unfortunately there are little finger prints and rubbed off bits on it now, not noticeable until you get close up and I also had to abandon soldering in some of the LEDs as it was just taking too long! I will come back to those after the tournament and connect them up. I have taken some work in progress pictures but they are at home and this is just a quick update in my lunch break at work! The second monolith is all painted up but not assembled and I haven't wired in the LEDs either but having done the first one the second should be easier!
All the other models are made and based including the Ghost arc but I need to paint in eyes and green bits and bobs to finish them all off, I will just have to be up until whenever tonight in order to finish!
I had a little accident with the airbrush last night, I was soo pissed off! The paint had to much thinner in it and although the test squirt looked fine on the box, it then fired too much paint out which seeped in to all the recesses, thought I had fixed it three more times before I gave up as it was ruining models! Grrrrrrrrrrrr! So a bit of touch up rescuing to do too!

Hi everyone! So finished the Tournament, Rapid Strike at Reading's Spiky Club! The 1500pts force was completed at 3 am the night before!!! I was quite knackered for the tournament and it has made me vow never to paint a new army for a tournament again and go with something I already have painted! I played three games in total. The first game I played against Eldar and won gaining maximum points for the win and 6 bonus points for destroying the most expensive HQ, Most Expensive non HQ unit and for having one of my models nearest the center of the board. A flying start considering I haven't played much 40k with this set of rules (edition). THis game was objectives, there were 4 of them. A great guy I played against and I gave him my sportsmanship nomination.The second game was a nightmare scenario for me against marines, spearhead, kill points. He set up behind one ruin which he fortified with a techmarine and as I didn't have much in the way of ranged weapons I had to attempt to rush him and I got massacred! Didn't enjoy the game or the opponent. Third game was much closer and I only lost out on the draw due to being a bit tired and making some school by errors. It was two bases but the objective placed by your opponent, Vs Dark Eldar. Managed to wreak lots of havoc but cocked up and didn't contest his objective on the last turn when I could have! As for the painting competition... it was a bit strange as the judges decided on which armies could be entered and I wasn't selected. This was even more bizarre as they in addition to the voted army they also nominated their favorite army for a second painting prize. What annoyed me more was that it seemed that the nominated prize went to one of their mates who they seemed to think had been short changed at other tournaments. Well rant over, overall had a really good day and returned home for some much needed rest. Got quite tied up in playing and forgot to take any photos of the games except one but did get some pics of the other armies so here we are enjoy;
My Army first all painted up, I think people just assumed I had spray painted the army and no skill was involved but I did put a lot of effort in and tomorrow I'll upload some WIP pics for the monoliths.
Oh yea, put three LEDs in the first monolith, 2 Ultra brights and a large one, that one managed the whole tournament, for the second one I lit 6 more LEDs and the batteries died after the first game. I think I will unsolder them and just stick with the three.
Some of the coolest armies that were up for votes now;
Another Necron Player with some cool conversions!
the space marines I played in the second game, Doom Eagles;
Emperor's Children;
Nids;
Orks, they won the Judges Painting prize and he came first in the tournament!
A nice Dark Eldar force but not the one I played against.
A really well painted Tau force!
This was the deserving winner of the voted painting prize.
Well I hope you all enjoyed the update and the eye candy! Tomorrow hopefully I'll get time for the tutorial on lighting Monoliths!

Thanks for posting GiraffeX. I'll do some photos of the Monoliths later, already snipped 6 leds out of the wiring and the batteries are coping much better. Might take a rest from the Necrons for a while, I'm going to start my golden demon enteries next so the blogs might suffer a bit.

Reaper,
I'm sorry that you had a negative response to your painting. I'm afraid that you'll continue to get 'out of a can' type response, but you shouldn't let them get to you. You are painting the army for your enjoyment (and the enjoyment of your followers here).
I too, am excited to see your monolith, guts and all.

Thanks guys! I did have a great tournament and I'm looking forwrd to some more this year, it is great to get back into playing!
Ok so second attempt to write the making of the monoliths as either my internet browser or Dakka crashed last time when I was nearly finished Grrrr!
So to start with you need a few bits, some wire, a soldering iron, a switch, a battery holder, a drill ( I used a power drill and the mini hand drill GW do), ultra bright green LEDs and some smaller standard LEDs. Oh and a scalpel.
I cut a hole in the base for the switch to fit into.
I then attached the battery holder, two AAA batteries are ideal for three LEDs but not many more as I found out later.
I then drilled a hole through the central pillar pointing towards the portal and glued a super bright LED pointing in that direction. I also drilled a hole in the crystal holder base and into the glued crystal and again glued an ultra bright LED into the base of the crystal.
I also drilled a hole in the back wall of the monolith shown here undercoated in the gloss black, which actually looked very cool & could be a future theme if I ever do another Necron force.
I magnetised the portal wall and the edges that it would attach to.
Finally I soldered the LEDs in parrallelto the batteries and the switch. I did try and wire six smaller leds on to the big long green bars on the two walls in two sets of three in series but they drained the batteries very quickly and so I just snipped them out of the circuit. The rear wall LED was an extra large one that fitted the hole well (they were on offer in Maplin).
Finally the fineshed product;
Well there is how it is done! I must say that buying all the required gear more than doubled the cost of each monolith! Any C&C welcome and if anyone has any further questions feel free to ask.

hmm monolith is sick, but the crons.. i feel like they are missing something. They look good, but they are missing a oomphff. I feel like you should do a golden shoulder pads...or something really solid and catchy to help break the model and add that extra look at my sexy butt.

Hmm.. I think I know what you mean, maybe I will revisit them and add a little something extra.
So a picture of Imoteck, as far as I am with him, I suspect I left him on my desk with his eyes glowing as the battery seems to be flat now!
Probably won't be much progress on these guys for a while as I turn my attentions back to other projects but I must admit the Night Scythes are calling to me!!
