It's interesting to me that this thread was created with whitney's death as a topic, but if you do anything but talk about mourning you're labeled as a troll. Unless noted I would imagine we discuss the event here, so to care or not to care, it doesn't matter. If you get offended because people don't care, you should make a thread of mourning, that way people know not to say anything but "this makes me sad".

What label would you give to users who go into a thread expressly for the purpose of telling everyone in it just how much they don't care about the subject matter?

I would call that a poster. This is a forum, where people discuss things. Regardless of what stance you take, you're still contributing your input to the thread. The thing is, nowadays when someone doesn't agree with you SURELY they must be a troll, right?

I agree that you can state how you feel with lack of finesse and have it draw ire, but if such a post offends anyone they should just ignore the user or get out of the thread.

There are many names to call people you feel are inconsiderate, so why does everyone just scream troll.

I vote for the first example as a "pre-troll" marker. Repeat performances could then earn the moniker "troll". Like the "Post Ranks" but bad.

That's generally how it works, yes.

I find it hard to feel sad for drug addicts who take their own lives, but apparently others feel differently. She had a decent enough singing voice, but that's not enough for me to feel even a twinge of grief.

In fairness the title of this post is a bit neutral. To me it comes across as a statement., implying nothing either way. If it had been called "Whitney Houston dead at 48, your tributes", then to call people who say negative things trolls would be a fair comment.

As it's written, I would expect comments from all comers.

Who would you be referring to? As far as it was known she had cleaned up and there is nothing remotely in evidence that has lead to a conclusion of suicide, or an overdose, at this time. If that turns out to be the case then it would be time to dance on the grave but considering we know nothing yet it seems a bit premature.

I would be referring to Whitney Houston.

TMZ, so take with an appropriate amount of salt.

I'm not dancing on her grave, I'm not happy that she's dead, I'm indifferent. For as much impact she has on my life she could have been dead for the past 10 years.

I do feel bad for her daughter.

I never really cared for her music but many enjoyed it.

As far as I am concerned she is yet another victim of the loneliness and isolation that fame can place upon a person.

If I had to hazard a guess as to her cause of death I would put my money on heart failure caused by damage during her years as a stimulant addict.

Power corrupts and fame deranges never vote for actors.

This is the point of contention between us. I do not consider people posting in a thread explicitly to advise everyone of their lack of interest in the subject matter being discussed to be "contributing" or "discussing" at all.

well at least she doesn't digitally manipulate her voice in the studio version.

many.... so many 'popstars' practice lipsyncking.
some even claimed that he/she can prove that Madonna did lipsync in her gigs so frequent.

Kylie Minogue rarely did this. if a present stage audio system works. she sings it live. the latest APHRODITE les Follies gigs, which i've been there. she did sing with her own voice.

I've got two distinct memories of Whitney Houston:

Mariah Carey trying to perform a duet with her and getting ROFLstomped by her vocal power.

and

Whitney demanding receipts for all of the cocaine she 'allegedly' did.

Too bad for Adele, really, that her big night gets overshadowed.

Surely the best 'use' of her untimely demise is to use it as a way to raise awareness about drug abuse, and its causes?

Too harsh??

Should we care about her BECAUSE she was famous/rich or a celebrity? No certtainly not.

Should we at least try to have some ounce of human decency an not be a pathetic web-troll because just possibly others on the forum/community we are trolling have experienced the pain and loss of adiction on a personal level?

One would hope.

Your post is a fail on many levels including as a troll-post. Despite your lack of wisdom and comon sense I pray youy don't have to ever deal with such an issue or the often associated loss personally, but then again maybe you should have to...

A number of other drug addicts died yesterday, should we have threads to memorialize each of them? Or do you just not care about them?

I'm sure their families were quite upset.

Your point is what exactly?

Any death from drug addiction is indeed tragic. Whitney Houston is a high profie example of something that happens to many people, so yes people might tend to post or talk about it.

Talking about a case like Houston's isn't to idolize her or make her any more special then the "number of drug addicts who dies yestereday" as you put it. What an intelligent person might take from it is the true gravity of drug addiciton: that if even a famous person with loads of money, staff, personal assistants and media scrutiny can't beat it, then imagine the hellish pit of hoplessness that a non-celebrity like those you mention finds themselves in.

Let's hope that there will be 'Houston Effect'. that the whole clinics will be dedicated to drug test and rehabs.
too bad Amy Winehouse failed to raise awareness that how dangerous the drug addiction is.? and even a sad reality is. a scott gayman in a kylie fan community forum (which claimed to be a successor of the official forum which closed in 2010) attacked Winehouse, called her 'Junkie' . for a reason that not worth listening.

CT GAMER wrote:Your point is what exactly?

My point is Ms. Houston's death is no more meaningful to me than thousands of other deaths that happen from year-to-year.

If people who never met or interacted with Ms. Houston are upset with her death, then they should be equally upset with many other deaths that occur. But they obviously are not.

The only negative that comes from Ms. Houston's death is that maybe she won't release music that I might have enjoyed. However, given that I don't have a particular enjoyment of her past works, it's unlikely.

Albatross suggested I'm selfish for not crying over the loss of someone who had no impact on my life. I counter that, under that standard, anyone who ignores the deaths of others who might be similarly situated is equally selfish.

So it seems as though best case scenario you want a thread full of yes men, worst case scenario you utterly disregard people's opinions when they do not match your own. Then go out of your way to proclaim them in the wrong.

People can and will state how they feel about things. You can either have an open mind and take their views as they are, being just that. Or you can get upset when you hear something you don't like. Which will happen fairly often.

I don't think that wanting people to post in a thread that have an interest in the thread is the same as wanting 'yes men'. You can have an interest in a thread and still disagree. Posting in a thread just to say you don't care enough to post isn't really a discussion or disagreement.
