My group is doing a revision of the "leaked" rules and have been playing under that for awhile. The real question for us is if 6th will be better than the system we are working on. Regardless of that, when I'm playing outside the group, I'll play 6th as it will most likely be what is run.

Not trolling, just ignorance.

I feel the same way. 4th looks overly complex and in my opinion, gak.

No, I'd move on.

I'm surprised at all the people liking 4th here. I thought 4th was pretty terrible, and I've really enjoyed 5th compared to it.

In the dark recesses of your mind...

I'm sure the group at my FLGS would make the change to 6th edition, so I would do it as well. I wouldn't want to play 5th at home with closer friends, because I'd likely begin to get confused over some of the changes.

This. The "leaked" rules are awesome, and better than 5th ed anyway. If 6th fails, we have a fall back position (fandex or not).

Will move onto 6th.

In all honest every editon has had its good and bad points, and in general 5th has been pretty fun. However I'd rather be using the new set in case I get into tournies, have enough trouble remembering rules these days as it is, never mind having to refresh with a new system because I skipped it.

Hopefully with a few tweeks, 6th will be even better overall, I'd also like to see the changes being more in depth than, right everyone has brought shed loads of transport, lets reshift the importance of the game to infantry.

When the new rules set comes out, if I want to play with everyone else, I'm going to have to switch over. There's not going to be much of a point in being the one guy refusing to change.

RPG's seem like they are the only area where refusal to switch editions you play is acceptable. (Totally acceptable. I still play Classic Marvel and Deadlands, SLA Industries under the original rules, and I still play 2e D&D.) For card games, war games, and every other aspect of the gaming industry I can think of, changing editions is automatic. I've never even met a holdout player who still played 3rd ed 40k, or 5th ed Magic: the Gathering.

This perfectly mirrors my own feelings on the matter; unless 6th Ed. is so terrible it provokes a mass revolt of players, I don't see refusal to change as an option. Also, Deadlands is fabulous; possibly the best RPG ever written.

This is GW we're talking about here, so don't bet on it.

Is there an option that I can picked labelled "I think 5th edition sucks so I still play 3/4th because I already own enough from that era to play seven different armies and refuse to buy all of it over again to stay current when there's not a GW within 100 miles of me and if I see new vehicles that are cool like the SM Storm Raven or Necron Annihilation Barge then I will just use the Chapter Approved VDR rules to make them 3/4 edition compliant?"

I pick that one.

Sixth will be good, just like fifth has been good. What's sucked in fifth is the uneven codexes dispersed slowly and without a unity of purpose.

Eighth edition Fantasy has me a little more hopeful. Here we see balanced supplements that, while dispersed slowly, are done so with unit of purpose.

I'm in the same boat as this unfortunately, I go back to the occasional game ever few months because of the cool models and background, then during the game remember why I wasn't playing it more, then go and play something else.

Perhaps an option would be the leaked/fake version?

I'll play whatever the group decide to play to be honest. Sure I'll buy the 6th Edition and most likely will end up playing it, but I won't rule out not playing 5th still. But once new codex's come out I guess you'll need to move to 6th if you want to use them.

Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

Why would a rules change force anyone to get rid of/stop using all the models they paid good money for and put hard effort into to reach the table? If a player has a true and good set of friends that share the hobby, they ought to be able to have a fun time playing anything that's been put into print.

Hell, you can get a hardcover 4th edition 40K rulebook, new, for less than ten dollars on Amazon!

Of course, this is mostly my way of thinking because I only play with friends, I have no game store to play at and would never go through the self-torture of a tournament.

I am moving on. 4th wasn't that from what I could remember, and have been playing 5th since it came out and I am STILL not tired of it.

5th is a great game and I don't think I am ready to see it go.
