I'm really excited. When Confrontation was out there, I avoided
buying miniatures from them because I was afraid I'd botch them
up. Now that I've learned how to hide my mistakes, I look forward
to buying these miniatures and painting them up.

If you're griping because what you thought was an exclusive model turned out to be a mass-produced one, I have no sympathy for you at all. Buying models based on their scarcity (whether it's for profiteering resale or simply because of a collector's mentality) instead of because you enjoy the piece and want to own/use one is a completely greasy mode of behaviour, and I laugh heartily whenever somebody's scheming in that realm goes off the tracks.

Now, it still doesn't reflect favourably on CMoN's business practices, since they're probably intentionally labeling things as exclusives in order to generate sales amongst the aforementioned type of scoundrel (with full knowledge that they'll be willing to de-exclusify the item at a later date, devaluing the item amongst that segment of their customers). And if it turned out they were gouging you at the "exclusive" price point and then later reducing it I would have endless sympathy for you. But as it stands, suck it up. You still have your awesome model, and now other people who weren't wargaming at that time, or didn't have the money, or didn't play that army, or whatever else, can also enjoy that awesome model.

Aren't you a little charmer...

Anyway, I bought the owl because I've been 'getting around' to a 'dark Celtic' Wood Elf army forever and wanted the model from the day I first saw it. I have more pressing priorities at that time, but on seeing it about to vanish for good, I determined that I would have to get it. I did without several things for current projects because I wanted the owl for a future project. I am a mite peevish that they were shady in their advertising and misled me, as a customer, into buying the model prematurely. I don't like being misled.
Yes I would have eventually purchased the model, but not at that time. My hand was forced by misleading labeling. It's left me somewhat distrustful of the company and unlikely to purchase from them again.

Polonius wrote:There are models that I know I want, or will want, that I don't buy because I know they will be available later. I know I want to paint up an Empire Clockwork Steed, but I'm in no hurry because I know I have all the time in the world.

Now, if that had been a limited edition, I would have bought it early, and saved it.

Because I didn't buy it immediatly, I was able to use that money on other things. I wasn't exactly living hand to mouth at the time, but I had to watch how much I spent in any given month. To know that I had lost opportunities due to a change by a seller would annoy me greatly.

Basically sums it up nicely. I would have put the money to my Dark Eldar or a warmachine army. The labeling panicked me into making the purchase of the owl instead and I won't be starting that army until GW redoes the line... Some time away from rumor control.

I just squee'd. In my pants.

I came to post this news, but was beaten by a day. Damn you Kroothawk!!1!

Funny thing is, I just started playing again a couple of months ago with friends who missed it. We all have armies from before, and it's given me the incentive to paint models that have sat on a shelf for five years. My Daikinee are finally getting some love...

Rewriting the rules could go either way, but we've still got the old ones if the new rules suck.

Beyond the models though, I think the rules made for a great game. Very open to abuse, but that's par for the course when models can be mixed and matched.

Off to change my shorts, update my friends and get back to painting...

That's a Mandigorn Warrior. The Daikinee faction (wood elves) was only lightly fleshed out before The Suckening, this was their only Creature choice and was a decent heavy bad-ass. I'm not sure if it was ever made clear exactly what it was.

What 'trees said.

He's also got flight, which makes him very mobile. He's also the only model in the army that won't break in a swift breeze. I like to lob him at enemy models to simulate his "dive-bomb" attack.

Bugs are a big part of the Daikinee "brand"; their symbol is a scarab, and their armour is made of bug shells. You'd think the Mandigorn would be a bit nervous that these spindly little allies have taken a liking to wear his family's exo-skeletons for protection, but I guess he'd be a big fit for them anyways.

Because hoarding something based primarily on its scarcity prevents somebody else who would actually use the item from having one.

I just had flashbacks to the original Bio-Force Ape thread.

I'm sorry that you think all those butter-fingered collectors keep hoarding and stealing those limited Catridges, I mean figures from you.

Hopefully these new ones won't be as fragile as the old ones. I have a few, and all the small parts tend to snap rather than bend, .

I went into my FLGS last night, and had had a massive rack of Confrontation models. A massive rack.

When I asked about them (I thought they were the new models and I'd missed the release) he said no, it's all his old, original stock from the game the first time. He just now has the opportunity again to sell them.

I really should rummage through it.

Feel free to post questions. If you are thinking of buying some to play with, here's some thoughts:

1) The rules can be downloaded online: http://homepage.mac.com/michaton/confsden/

2) Games are played with 200 - 400 warbands. 200 is fine.

3) The cards on the back of the package tell you home many points the models are. You can multiply the points by the number of models.

4) You don't need multiple packages of anything. An average warband could be 5 - 20 models.

5) Buy what you think looks cool, don't worry about a balanced force.

6) There's over a dozen factions. That link above has a great collection of pics to browse through.

I hope you get a chance to try it out.

EDIT:

Oh, I almost forgot; if they're plastic, pre-painted models, they're intended for a mass-combat game that sank the company. They have different cards, and were intended for armies comparable to WH Fantasy.

I'm tempted to get back in... nervous to do so...

...and then I realize that the prices will probably make the decision not to easy for me!

Shame though, as I did love the 3.0 system and the beautiful miniatures...

I am pretty excited! I LOVE the models, and while I never played the game proper, the models really do deserve their time back in the spot light. All spot lights, really.

Did you get rid of all your models? If "yes", then why?

I still have all my Wolfen stashed away, so cost doesn't come into the equation, at least at first...

I did...

I blame irrational anger over what was done to the game plus the need for money at the time.

Oh well!

Maybe I'll buy back in with a warband or two... IF the Price Is Right!

Best models out there, if they get the same sculptors back at it, that would be grand.

The rules that I played were terrible though (last version of them). Just so boring, IMO.

I will buy the minis though, for sure.

I'm from the future. The future of space

There's nothing irrational about any anger directed towards a miniature company that builds a big customer base with high quality metal miniatures and then switches everything to pre-painted plastic

That's about as justifiable in terms of being pissed off as a customer as it gets. But I do get what you're saying about parting with your collection. When the switch to crappy prepainted plastic came, I took the opportunity to buy huge amounts of Mid-nor stuff. It was just to paint as I never played the game. I always found which product was their game to be unclear (Confrontation? Which version? Hybrid? Ragnorak?). Maybe with this rerelease there will be a single game with a clearly defined rulebook.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

That was one thing that always infuriated me. Essentially one line for 4 rules sets(Standard, Ragnarok, Hybrid, and Cadwallon) and you many times had to suss out for yourself which was which(aside from Standard and Ragnarok, of course).

Not only that, but the English translation for Cadwallon was atrocious and nearly unplayable beside it being, arguably, their best Confrontation universe rule set in the original French.

I know at least two of them are currently working for Games Workshop and a couple others are on freelance. Though I did see a new wolfen sculpt on CMoN a week ago. Pistol wielding witch-hunting wolfen. Sculptor says it was for their city game. Can't find the image now, and suspect it may have been taken down because it wasn't suppose to be released. Sculptor was Russian.

Believe me, it was absolutely unplayable in French too. I've never read a worst ruleset in my life (apart from the old mechwarrior rpg).

As much as I loved Confrontation 3.0, that sounds just like Rackham and their typical rulesets!

There's a lot to love IF you can get past the clunkiness though. At least there was in Confronation...

I payed the dogs of war rule set briefly, sort of like a more complicated Mordheim. The figs were very nicely done, still have them some where. The hands were a bit small and hard to pin on the rank and file guys but they sure were nice minis. I will be looking forward to seeing some of those again.=, even if its just to paint them.

No, It's like Fox resurrected Firefly! This is EXCELLENT news. My favorite miniatures game of all time....I still have my huge collection of Dirz, Griffon, Kelt, Acheron, Ophidian, and Cadwallon (though there were several Cadwallon, and Mid-Nor figs that I still wanted to get when the original company was driven off a cliff...) I'm assuming with the return of the 3/3.5 rules, we will go back to small scale skirmish with square bases, etc...

I am SO looking forward to this! and to think I was recently thinking of selling off some of my Rackham figs.....

Now, to get my giant tub of AT-43 up on ebay....
