I'm a tad busy immediately lol, but I'd be happy to answer any questions that I can about those two factions. In fact, not to give spoilers away, but we might be seeing some of our friends from Skorne here soon

Alright everyone,

This is my last post officially for my project, then we can go back to all the painting goodness. In the few weeks that my blog has been active, I've worked hard for the thirty posts you see on the page, as well as the over 1000 views. And this little exercise has taught me a little bit about how prolific social media is in our little hobby. What I have learned is that we use social media to promote our hobby, whether it is the large companies via facebook or twitter, or through websites that bring all of us together. I've noticed that it takes a lot of hard work to reach the size of blog that Dakkanauts like Gitsplitta has. Each of his blogs are ten pages or more, and his main one is almost 300 pages. The dedication and advertisement he does is amazing, even if it is just word of mouth.

The only thing we need to learn as a community is that social media is not something to be feared. We need to embrace this idea of sharing our hobby online, and promoting anything we do. We're a small hobby, but at the same time, we're large for being something that isn't as mainstream as say online video games, or music creation and sharing (ala electronic music). I should hope that those of you that are following my blog are enjoying this little foray into research, and our trip will have benefited us when we return, to you know... the painting and modeling, and to those of you that are new to this blog, welcome to the little family, take a look around, and don't feel scared to chime in and say hello. I look forward to seeing this blog evolve.

Thanks for including us in your research Alf. And the side benefit is we get to see all your cool models come to life!

I'm still waiting for my Dakka royalty checks to come in... that ain't happnin'. Neither is the honorary Dakka doctorate or god Mod status. I find your conclusions to be spot on, though I do wonder how much of the overall gaming community is not aware that such a vibrant on-line communities exist. I just blundered into dakka one day doing an internet search. Never dawned on me that non-GW sponsored forums might exist. It's laughable now I suppose, but just 3 years ago I had no idea.

Yeah good luck with the research/project/degree?!

I do think its a shame sites like this arent more widespread in the gaming community, even if it was just a GW official forum.

Hey everyone!

Just a quick update for everyone. Alabamaheretic was asking some questions about Skorne and Menoth, while I'm not a massive expert on either of these armies, I will be starting out with one of these armies... So just for you all, here today, is a nice little teaser of my next project.

Well the skorne are pretty much all crazy sadists, they come from the desert and im fairly sure one of their warlocks (Hexeris maybe?) got power from bloodsucking.

The Skorne are fast, and slow at the same time. They have very fast infantry, and they have very slow warbeasts, but they can often give out buffs like nobody's business, allowing their slow warbeasts to be in your face (see the combos you can pull of with just a Titan Gladiator and making slam attacks).

I've only ever played with the battlebox, so we'll see how it goes... I've got a lot of painting ahead of me... Might hit up my local store and get some paints

Sorry for my silence everyone, but I've been busy with this blur that is post-collegiate life. I have updates for you guys

First is my Archidon, a heavy warbeast for Skorne, I tried wet blending on the under part of his wings, so we'll see how this goes. I think it looks good.

Next up is a min unit of Pain Giver Beast Handlers... I have a full unit, but I can't find the other two models...

And finally, a unit of Pain Giver Bloodrunners

Nice work on the Skorne. I like that you have taken the studio scheme and tweaked it just enough to make it your own.

What's up next? I noticed that you have shown us just the archidon from the big picture.

I'll probably be painting warcasters/solos here in the next week or so. And once that hits, I'm going to be switching to WHFB Vampire Counts for a "Tale of 4 Gamers" my store is doing in a couple weeks, but I'll still be painting Skorne to keep sane while I paint like 120 infantry (yay army painter and dip lol)

While I'm waiting on some pieces for my Vampire Counts army, so I'm painting up some Brushfire, a very cool game by an awesome Dakkanaut. (I'll get a better write up tomorrow)...

First up is are the Weasel Fusiliers from Aquitar (A parody of France)

Next we have the Exemplar for the Badger-At-Claws, the one, the only The Badger in the Iron Claws

Then we have the unit he runs with, the Badger-At-Claws.

Alf, the Archidon is fantastic looking! Great job!

Cool to see paint on Brushfire minis, I think a heavy wash will do wonders on these at this point (thinking of those white pants in particular).

Thanks, I love hearing my Archidon get complimented, the guys at my flgs noticed too... One of the oldest guys had like a silly... "I remember when" story, he was like, "I can tell you've gotten better at painted, even just watching your stuff from last year." I then told him I had only been painting for a year lol..

I know you might not like the white pants, but I'm going for a traditional "Napoleonic" French Army uniform scheme, so their pants were white with no added fringe (that I've been able to find), but if you look at the Badger in the Iron Claws, you can see the effects of any type of wash on the pants, it looks dirty, grimy and not very good (imo), but that mostly has to do with the fact that there are no crevices or folds on the pants for the wash to sink into, so it's going to look blotchy (I did try on one of the Fusiliers, I ended up painting over it when it looked like crap).

So I finally made my way over here... man I've been missing out!

First of all, Archidon is very well done. Wow.

And I LOVE your Badger in the Iron Claws. The chains are really perfect.

I too am finding the classic French scheme to be challenging for these Brushfire minis. You are off to a good start! I actually had to take a break from them for a couple of days and paint something else.

Thanks! Also, the standard french is a pain in the rear lol, and as for the chains... They're real jewlers chains. My little brother's gf had a broken necklace that she gave me I'm not too happy with the "mask" on him, but it works

Hey everyone!

So real life has slowed down and I'm able to post stuff. *looks at last post* Holy gak! It's been almost a month, well I guess this update should be gargantuan! No seriously, that's what I'm painting. I got a mountain king at gencon and I refused to use it until he was painted. So here is where we are now:

that's a partial lie lol. He's looking more like this:

I keep looking at the skin, which is Hawk turquoise and it was a very bright blue, so I used some privateer press flesh wash and went to town, I think in instances like this, it works better than devlan mud (heresy I know ) but it doesn't darken it as much, and the pp flesh wash is thinner, so it finds all those nice cracks in the model. He's still a very bright blue, but it contrasts nicely with the darker stone color that I'm working for.

I have some Malifaux models painted, I just need to take better pictures. And sorry if these shots suck, I'm taking then on my phone.

I think it's going to cause me to have to repaint my trolls with the "trollblood base" color... Hawk Turquoise is such a better color >_<

and now a close up of his face.
