I oddly can't watch anything while I'm painting, it's too distracting - but conversely I need something on, as painting in silence just seems weird Usually it's music - something classical, or whatever band I'm feeling like. Recently I've been working my way through old Scott Mills shows, mixed up with Ludovico Einaudi and Coldplay

Looking for fun articles on painting, tactics and wargaming? Are you after a new regular blog to follow? Are you a bit bored with nothing better to do?

If the answer to any of the above is 'well, I guess' you could probably do worse than read my blog! Regular wargaming posts, painting and discussions

Ive been checking out 21 Jump Street on Hulu as of late. Just started the 2nd season last night. Even after all these years it's still a fairly gritty cop drama.

Not a fan of watching anything whilst painting to be honest, it gets too distracting.

I like listening to music, typically it's whatever I want to listen to at the moment. Sometimes I'll put on more "appropriate" music for when I'm doing 40k, like Tool or Gary Numan.

To maintain some social interaction with the 'soon to be' wife we have laid out our poxy, one bedroom flat in a way that enables me to paint away at my desk in the corner while the better half catch's up on the TV shows etc she likes to watch (American crime drama's mainly).

I find this system works well in that I can carry on with my hobbies and interests without spending the whole evening away from the wife. As a result I'm usually listening to Criminal Minds, or Without a trace. But this acts as background noise and I pay little attention.

If not we put a CD on, our music tastes vary form 50's/60's to Upfront drum and bass.

I could NOT paint in silence however. This would make the process feel a lot longer and more demanding.

It depends on what's on TV or my mood or if one of the 2 podcasts I like is updated.

Baseball (Mainly just the Houston Astros)
Pro Footall (American) Mainly just the Houston Texans
College Football (American). My Louisiana Tech Bulldogs are almost never on TV, though. So I'll watch LSU or any game with a Top 25 team.
Independent Characters PodCast
40k Radio Podcast
DVD of a movie I've seen a bunch and don't need to watch. Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and so on.
Audio Books. I've been listing to more since I found this Free Audio Books website! Mostly public domain books read by amateurs. Hit or miss, depending on the reader and the book.

I'll often find a Batrep on YouTube or MiniWarGaming to put on in the background, even though I don't face my computer screen while painting.

If I put on a DVD instead it's usually something geeky; classic Doctor Who, Blakes 7, Star Trek, Thundercats, Terrahawks, Captain Scarlett, Clone Wars, Ulysses 31, Star Fleet, Danger Mouse.

If it's music it's AC/DC or Lordi.

Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

Varies... but probably more than anything else... I've got the Red Dwarf series on DVD. That's my fall-back if I can't find / aren't in the mood for anything else.

I'm another that opts for music over shows/movies. My girlfriend does it constantly (albeit with shows she's seen at least once, already), but it appeals less to me than music if I'm not going to actually watch it.

If I'm in the mood for something specific, I'll toss an album or discography up on Grooveshark (they have everything I ever had and much, much more, barring the odd local band or bootleg live set). If I'm feeling a style more than an artist, I use Last.fm to create a station based on an artist - great way to discover new bands in a similar vein. I've also got a few web radio stations bookmarked that I pop on, every now and again.

Genre varies, but I have primarily metal leanings, followed at a moderate distance by industrial, with electronic rounding off my top three. Most recently, I've been on a West Coast/stoner/biker doom binge (as much as I despise stoner "culture," in general, it's just so damned good) with occasional breaks for Ziltoid the Omniscient (probably the most game-appropriate music of the bunch, silly as it is, what with the galactic conquest and all).

The Dreadnote wrote:But the Emperor already has a shrine, in the form of your local Games Workshop. You honour him by sacrificing your money to the plastic effigies of his warriors. In time, your devotion will be rewarded with the gift of having even more effigies to worship.

I'm really into KMFDM and rammstein lately. I also listen to a lot of hardcore death metal etc, which gets me pumped up and gives me energy to paint. Sometimes I put the iPod on shuffle and listen to anything from electronica to lady gaga!

I also play movies I know really well, so it's not like I'm missing anything. Love sci fi movies the best for this. I also am rather partial to reality shows like pawn stars and American pickers.

I try to immerse myself in the hobby when I finally get time to sit down and paint. I'll listen to podcast's or YouTube videos, mainly 40K Radio or The Independent Characters and sometimes Beast's of War (video cast). As long as I can hear the hobby being discussed it keeps me focused and motivated to keep going for that session.
