I always need some background noise when I'm painting, makes it the 'my' time of the day.
I prefer playing some movie or series when I paint, but only episodes I know, so that i dont have to pay attention to it but only listen.

What about you guys ?

Almost universally, I listen to the F Plus Podcast. Great podcast that makes it a job to make fun of poorly written things on the internet.

Other than that, usually some show on Netflix. At the moment, either That 70s Show or Frasier. (I love sticoms)

I usually want complete silence as most of the time I dare talking to myself... Mother and brother find it amusing to hear me talking about my little Orks or Crons, ex-gf even thought it was cute in some way (still am wondering why I dumped her sometimes, but yeah the reason why always pops up then) This mostly is the Tale of what one or another did in the related squad or vehicle. Got some stories there already!

When there's truly no mood to even talk to myself a very soft background music is turned on from my computer to compensate the silence. I do like silence though so when the music starts to get frustrating I turn it off and another paint boost comes in!

I watch (listen) to movies and some TV series via Netflix. I watched the whole first season of The Walking Dead for the first time, awesome, and I watch a load of X-Files. I more often than not only listen (for obvious reasons) however I still grasp the majority of what is going on and when I need a break it is as simple as *clean brush, close paint, sit back and relax*.

I listen to a mix of 70's and 80's rock when I paint, mostly the Electric Light Orchestra and Kansas.

I don't watch anything while I paint, it would be too distracting for me.

Either my youtube lists (that's mainly metal)
or to Cinemix (radio station) they play soundtracks, and that's IMO pretty epic.

Depends what mood I'm in. Sometimes I listen to music, mainly Coldplay, U2 or Queen (just because I like them). If I have a friend who likes Warhammer, I'll talk to him or do a speech RPG whilst I paint.

Usually, music or, more recently, a Black Library Audio book which are, IMHO, fantastic.

I too talk to myself. Often, I'll go over the next step vocally, or mutter random nonsense.

...Yeah, fun =p

Audiobooks or any music I am in the mood for ATM. That can range from classical to metal to techno. Just depends on the day. Oh...and the constant undertone of the woman in the background wondering when I am gonna do the things she needs me to do.

The Orks are the pinnacle of creation. For them, the great struggle is won. They have evolved a society which knows no stress or angst. Who are we to judge them? We Eldar who have failed, or the Humans, on the road to ruin in their turn? And why? Because we sought answers to questions that an Ork wouldn't even bother to ask! We see a culture that is strong and despise it as crude.

Usually some tv show/movie on in the background
I'm a big simpsons fan, often its that - I've seen literally all of them too many times already so don't desperately need to look at it to get the jokes or see whats going on.
The Walking Dead has been pretty good too, Breaking Bad is a personal favorite which I'm looking forward tot he return of.
Game of Thrones too (also back soon )

For me it depends on what miniatures Im painting.

If they are warhmmer fantasy or other fantasy style minis, usually Lord of the Rings or other suitably "fantasy setting" movie.

40k figs I try and watch something sci-fi'ish.

When I painted Flames of War figs, I watched WWII movies.

I suppose I try and watch something that is the same genre to keep the mood.

This.
Especially Streetlight Manifesto or Random hand. I sometimes put my iTunes on random but find myself stopping to skip the track too much. The audio book idea is a good one, I may have to look into that.

Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.

I see the connections for most of those... but star wars for wood elves? I see the tau angle.. just not the elves.

I watched the entire alien/s/3/4/resserection/vs predator series while painting a tyranid army.

I play sitcoms in the background usually as I don't really have time to watch them. Community is the current selection.

I usually try to listen to Coast to Coast AM while painting, unless the guest is some hippie trying to sell a self-help book or a hack archaeologist who spend all his time picking and choosing data from digsites in a vain attempt to prove that his pet interpretation of the bible should be taken literally. Other than that, I listen as often as I am able.

If the aforementioned irritating windbags are on, I check what's on Red Ice Creations. However, Henrik has his share of new-age wackos on.

http://www.redicecreations.com/

And if I get really desperate, I go to Youtube and check in with Project Camelot. I will not link to any of their videos, because Kerry Cassidy's interview style takes A LOT of getting used to, and even now sometimes I want to reach through the internetz and strangle her sometimes.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
