Sorry, that's wrong. It's true that a good number of webstores offer this though an equal number don't as the cost of this software is anything but small. Imagine being a start up company or whatever:
Salesman - "Would you like us to add software that auto adjusts your stock listing to out of stock when quantities get low for the low low price of £1000?"
SME - "Thanks, but we'll manage that ourselves, the cost is too prohibitive"
Assuming that all software acts the same, or that all businesses have access to "make your life easy" tools, is... wrong.
I'm not asking for some "state of the art" software that tells me exactly the stock that is available, I want them to be sincere with it, if they can't guarantee that the levels are true better not display them, anyway keeping track of the stock available and subtracting the things already sold doesn't seem like something very complicated

They don't state the quantities that are in stock, so there's nothing to guarantee. What they do say is "it's usually pretty easy for us to get these in, so you can expect us to despatch within 1-5 days if we have it, if we don't then it'll be 3-9 days."
What they show and what you think they show are 2 completely different things.
@Rich1231 - given what's been said here, is it a simple fix to amend your website to show real time stock levels or is that one for the developers?

I'm still waiting to give them my business.
If anyone from wayland is reading this, can you give any indication as to how far off this new warehouse and ROW solution is?
It's been a while with no real updates on this.. If it's still going ahead can I suggest giving an update from time to time?

I understand fully from an outsiders point of view, that it seems like a really simple and obvious thing to do. But it is far more complicated.
When we first opened we didn't expect to grow as we have, our business plan was fairly conservative. Almost an experiment in eCommerce. So our software requirements were less demanding than they are now (or indeed since month 12). We also opened as pretty much a GW only store. GW at the time allowed retailers to reorder daily so we did.
Then as other ranges were added and GW restricted ordering to once a week, things got more complex.
We looked around for a new platform before the first year was out, I spent many many hours drafting requirements and measuring products (software etc not stock) against them, but all of them failed in some way to meet important and key requirements. We purchased a few packages that looked close (including the package that the War store uses), and found it archaic and inflexible for use outside the US. It also has major features missing that we didn't understand why anyone writing a such a package could leave out. We then settled on something that was brilliant, but very very very expensive and only used by the big boys in online retail and work began on both the website but also all the back end and ERP type stuff that we need). The problem is that we have expanded our requirements (which will become clear when the site launches).
Anyway the point being that we intend to go to Live stock levels, but there are a number of issues that have to be resolved before that happens:
Our warehouse move - its tying up a significant amount of resources at the moment. We need to space to increase our stock holding further and implement all the new processes associated with the new site and all the ERP infrastructure. The move is a multi million pond commitment by us. There is nothing like it in this industry apart from GW's massive warehousing space.
One of the challenges has been that logistical sophistication in this industry is compared to many others extremely poor. Product information from almost all suppliers misses key information and it is circulated poorly. GW even cannot tell you what is and isnt available until you order. And they are a PLC and have spent a fortune in their logistics and WMS infrastructure. We can place orders with suppliers and get a 10% fill rate on the order without knowing what will turn up until the delivery arrives, or we can place orders from others and they take a few days to a few months to arrive (from the same supplier). Most items don't have barcodes and so scanner based goods in and out processes are no use. We believe we have solutions for this issue (and you might have seen hints in TTN related news in the last few months)
We have to train staff on the new platforms etc too which takes a while.
Move is April/May
New site May/June
Live stock levels June/July
We are a serious business, organised and focussed on service and are working our nuts off on continuous improvement but this market is a low margin competitive one and we cannot do everything we want to do at once and we have to plan things so that we don't over reach and stumble.

I would be thankful that unlike a lot of companies, at least Wayland take the time and trouble to engage with their customers in a public venue and address concerns; there aren't many that do that.
I'm sure they would be the first to concede that their are shortcomings or things they could do better; the same is true for any company. Hopefully the warehouse move will be a step on the road to solving some of the more common complaints.

Every item that I had ordered had the small green dot next to it which means "high availability". I had placed my order in November for Christmas time and I received it in February. I think thats a little absurd. They kept blaming it on the shipping, and how they were in a "warehouse move". I would never order from there again. Its worth a few more dollars to go down to my FLGS to buy the miniatures there. Also you support the store in the process which is always a plus.

I am the owner of Wayland and I am intrigued by your tale and would like to investigate.
As again I cannot imagine any order that does not contain pre orders or mfr long term out of stocks to deal a shipment.
If you pm me your name, email address etc I can investigate.
Just to add, I have just run a report for November for all orders going to the US (where dakka indicates you are from). There are no orders that shipped or had shipments in Jan or Feb, in fact the latest ship date on any US order from Nov is 22nd of December.

Are you trying to bully people on the forum Rich?
Thats what it looks like from here.
You sent me a private mail that had a very unpleasant and aggressive tone to it, and I don't appreciate that kind of approach from any business anywhere in the world
I made a post here in this thread that was factual and based solely on my own personal experiences.
I purchased from your stand at Salute almost a year ago and I had excellent service.
On the strength of that I made a purchase a few months later from your website and it had problems.
I tried once more a few months after that and had the same issue.
I made a decision from that point forward that I wouldn't use your website again but I would still buy from your stand at Salute.
If you can't handle people being honest about their retail experiences then maybe you are in the wrong job.
I know you have been experiencing problems in recent times because you keep putting up on your website that items are in stock when they are obviously not, and it means that the shipping times are elongated because you have to wait for the items to come into stock before you can send them out .
However customers are getting irate because your website says the items are in stock and they are buying them because they are under the impression that the items will arrive promptly.
Thats your fault and thats why people are asking for refunds but as it turns out Rich, your company is not responsive to people who want refunds and I know this through a few other connections I have who not only had to make consierable efforts to get their refunds eventually, but they were surprised they were getting whacked with 20% VAT on top of the price on the way out of the checkout.
That put a big extra on the cost of their goods.
Most websites include the 20% VAT up front, thats a bit naughty/cheeky don't you think Rich.?
After experiencing this approach from you by private mail i have to say I have had a change of heart and I will go direct to the manufacturer in future because your post struck me as being unfriendly and unprofessional.
You just lost yourself a customer, FOREVER.

I have used and ordered from Wayland at least 4 times in the last 12 months and have not experienced any real problems at all.
With one semi-large Dark Eldar order my wracks were not in stock even though they had the green light but my complete order still turned up within 2 weeks. The items are always well packed and whilst yes it can be a little frustrating that there was a slight delay the money you save over GW (particularly buying quite a few bits at once) more than makes up for it.
If you are working to a deadline (say a tournament or something) then maybe go elsewhere but for us regular guys what difference does a few days really make?

Henners, I have feedback on ebay of over a 1000, i buy all manner of items off the web for my household, for work, for the mrs and for my hobby using paypal, the last time i used Wayland would have been over half a year ago, what makes you think I'm going to trawl through that many transactions to work out which one it was to know that i won't be using them again?
I'm not employed by Wayland, I'm not their secretary.
Get real.
I'm done with them and I don't appreciate being harrassed by private email by a business entity here on dakka, it's unprofessional and inappropriate.
Had they managed a rasonable delivery time frame on the two occasions I used their website I would have been singing their praises.
Simple fix, if it's not in stock don't lie to the customer and tell them that it is.
Exactly the same issue that Frozen wastes raised on here.

If you login on Wayland there's a neat little order history feature. Shan't take more than two minutes of your time. How can they recompense you or even verify your claim if you shan't provide proof?
I haven't been happy with their service either, but I'm impressed a tad to at least see Rich on here addressing concerns.

You know toad, shouting your mouth off and offering your opinion.as fact without providing evidence of what's got you so riled won't do you any favours. If you want to be taken seriously, post a copy of the pm you received so people can judge for themselves how you were spoken to. We all know that messages can be misconstrued when in text so perhaps having other views on what you've been told would help to assuage your feelings here.
Also, being hostile to other forum members only alienates you from the people that you're trying to get on side.
Lastly, if you won't play ball by taking 2 minutes (less time than.it will take to write the gakky reply back to me that I have no doubt you're half way through penning already) then how do you expect your complaint to verified, actioned,
rectified, and prevented in the future? Automatically Appended Next Post: Ps, your eBay feedback score has no bearing or relevance on this discussion

I am the owner of Wayland Games, and I am concerned regarding your comments about our serivce.
Could you let me know your email address so that I can investigate the issues you have had.

Is that an aggressive message?
I have an interest in ensuring customers are happy and if they have issues then I am always around somewhere to get involved and resolved and at the very least ensure they don't happen again.
I am going to be polite here but your remarks about VAT are either a blatant lie or just ignorance. All of our prices on our website include VAT, they always have. There has never ever been a point at which VAT or any other tax has been added later so you are incorrect.
You also mention refunds, I am sorry but you are again incorrect. I see the refund sheets every day. When a refund is required or asked for we are very quick to issue them. If they are card based we don't have control at how quick they arrive but from our end they are done instantly for paypal and end of each day for credit cards. We have a full audit trail which I make a point of ensuring its accurate.
I give consent to any mod to read my emails and posts in PM

I've used Wayland twice and both times waited at least 2 weeks for the product to arrive. Also used another independent once and got the same issue - with them I actually requested a refund because i got fed up with waiting. I now pay full Workshop prices (which I think are worth it - they are very good models) and walk to my local shop and pick them up the same day.

Mr Rich, I used your website last year, twice, on the strength of the good service I had from your large stall at Salute almost a year ago now.
I like to keep my purchases discreetly tucked away from the eyes of the Mrs who doesn't need to know about the odd toy that gets added to the collection. I don't need the raised eyebrow or the snide comment about playing 'kiddies games' etc.
So when she goes away on business or with the kids for a few days in the holidays when i'm working, before i catch them up on the weekend, I will order in advance so the parcels arrive at home while she is away, the packaging is disposed of and the models assimilated into the collection and nobody is any the wiser.
I tried sending them to my work address but my secretary opens all the packets, not the letters, but the boxes etc that come in from couriers etc. and she finds my toys and they get to be a bit of a joke around the office, and then at work functions/parties she mentions it to my wife and we're back to the raised eyebrow again...
So when i make an order, i need it to arrive in a timely fashion.
When i see that an item is in stock I naturally presume that it will be sent out in a timely manner.
Both times i got caught by the mrs when i ordered from Wayland Games website.
Not the end of the world but a bit of explaining and banter at my expense that i didn't need.
I didn't cause a fuss as a customer with Wayland on either occasion, I didn't email them at all to find out where my goods were. I just made a mental note that they are not capable of providing me with the regular speedy service i get from non professional sellers on ebay who do dispatch their orders very quickly and then I dont get any grief from the mrs.
Since that failed experiment I decided not to use any website companies like Wayland anymore, I either go through eBay with UK sellers which has always been quick delivery, or I go straight to the source. I'll even go direct in person to pick up items from small companies like Otherworld or Blacktree etc. when I'm away on business or holiday in their part of the country.
Regarding the VAT coming in at the end of the equatuon when you check out at the Wayland website, an old mate of mine was talking to me just a week or two before this thread came up and thats what sparked me to respond on this thread... he had made a purchase from Wayland via their website, running into hundreds of pounds. He made the pourchase because he wanted the goods promptly and once again the Wayland website said they were in stock.
So he made the purchase thinking that the goods will be with him in at least three or four days. He doesn't live that far from Wayland, too far to drive on current fuel prices but a short turn around for the Royal Mail.
It was 6 days later ! and he still doesnt have the goods and NO communication from Wayland. So he gets on the horn by email and asks whats going on because he needs the goods pronto and eventually he gets a response. Long and short of it is the service was so slow he cancelled the order and waited for a full refund, which he received.
He was let down by the website claiming items were in stock when they clearly were not.
Just like other contributors have mentioned earlier in the thread.
He was also not happy that at the tail end of his transaction he was whacked with a 20% VAT cost that was not flagged up before the checking out process.
His words, not mine. He has been a trusted friend for a long time and he punches up big numbers in terms of gaming purchases, he told me straight he won't be doing any business through Wayland again and I'm not surprised.
Sneaky with the VAT at the end of the checkout process and sneaky with using the private mail for business purposes here on the forum.
I wouldnt touch Wayland with a barge pole after the experiences I've had.
Small wonder 'Sneaky Rich' is trying to run damage control.
I say to you Sir, Never send me another private email again regarding business matters. It's unethical and unprofessional and i don't appreciate it.
Are you getting the message yet?
Attend to your business in the public arena of business and do not attempt to solicit business in the private mail boxes of the contributors who do not appreciate it.
The horse has bolted Rich, your website failed me twice, I'm not interested in any reparation or apologies, I'm quite happy just to move on without being bothered or badgered by private email.
Thank you.

Dude, whilst I also didn't enjoy the wait (when I decide I want a model I want it NOW) you just sound like a dick! "Sneaky?" Rich has put up his version of the Pm which just looks to me like he was trying to address your concerns without asking for specifics in a public forum so your details are not online. That's good customer service, not aggression. All you're doing is ranting...

I don't have time to go through the entire post at the moment.
Our site has never ever ever added VAT to the end of a transaction. Not ever. Not once. Or prices have always included all taxes.
I sent the PM, the content I have already posted above. Nothing about it was bullying or soliciting. If you really think that then you are deluded.
If you make accusations on a public forum, and you cannot substantiate them, then you should not make them.
