Tell the truth, I'm probably going to model my Haqqislam's shotguns separately. Partly for the individualisation of the models, but also because I'm not about to pass up the chance to have a few masterkey shotguns (which I like) and perhaps also the odd one strapped across a backpack which the guy/gal likes to keep handy for close encounters.

Tonight I decided to go through the bitz box (no doubt inspired by Baiyuan's blog) and see what inspiration/bits I could come up with.

Had to quickly dismiss most of the Ork stuff - *way* too big.

An IG flamer seems to be about the size of a heavy flamer, and although I suspect I have some Marine hand flamers somewhere, I wasn't able to find them.

However - I did come across close to perfection in some of my Forgeworld bitz - these bad boys worked out great! (Even if it seems a little bit like cheating...)

Speaking of conversions...
How hard would it be to remove the hakama on a model ?
Making the model wear stretched, fitted pants.
(Anyone understand what I'm looking for ? =P)

What tools are needed to work with such little metal models ?
Would a basic cutter do the job ?

Thanks !

Might be easier to replace the lower body entirely, from the waist down...

Sorry, didn't mean to sound sarcastic -- I think it'd be a real pain to remove the hakama. You'd basically have to sculpt the legs in anew, which is not much fun with white metal. Personally I think the hakama look excellent anyway, but YMMV of course!

hahaha
I honestly meant what I said
I really didn't think about just cutting the mini in half
It's actually a really good idea =P

Sorry if you interpreted my answer the wrong way haha

As for the hakama...
Yes, I love it too, but it won't fit the (very small) conversion. (mostly about the paint job heh)

So for cutting the model in half, what tool would be needed ? =)

A razor saw is probably your best bet, IMO. You could use a Dremel, but my experience is that a razor saw is more precise and less messy (although it'll take longer).

This might be the same thing, but I use a jewelers saw. It's a very fine tooth blade.

I have three saws in my kit - your one above (the GW one - actually I have two of those, they don't cut metal well - in the "I'm going to lose my teeth" kind of way...), another razor saw that came with a mitre - this one is noticeably thinner than the GW one, and no issues with metal so far - and a jeweller's saw exactly as CDK posted.

Not surprisingly, I rarely use the GW one(s) anymore - they just chew too much detail. The thinner one I have is great for straight cuts - either in the mitre or just the flat of the blade itself - but you still need room to manoeuvre it (half the room of the GW one).

The jeweller's saw is ace for fiddly cuts - it can get just about anywhere - it's just hard to keep the cut straight, but it can follow natural grooves (and can do straight if the grooves are...) Also - I have literally dozens of blades for it - they are cheap as chips - and have only broken one (funnily enough, recently, cutting a base for my Infinity minis of all things...)

Oh - and you can poke the blade through a hole, reattach to the saw, and start from the *inside* if you want to

I'll be honest, I have really no idea what kind of way the I'm going to lose my teeth" kind of way is
And thanks for the infos =)

Well, if the metal is harder than the blade, then you don't cut the metal, the blade loses its teeth. It's pretty much good for nothing after that

ohh
Thanks for clarifying =D

The GW saw doesn't seem sturdy enough for metal cutting. Everytime I use it, I feel like it's gonna break...

Yeah, you need a high-carbon steel blade for the saw. I have an Exacto razor saw which has cut everything I've aimed it at smoothly and cleanly so far.

It's mainly GS work. The sword was a spare WHFB Empire one in a scabbard.

The one on the left. I didn't want two identical multi-rifle AGs, and had too many ORCs (6) so made one into an AG. The armour is similar enough, and with the coat and sword, it looks close enough for the job.
I have done some plasticard work (new fins for AD troops as the metals weren't in the blister for my Akalis (and I don't like the style of the PanO ones, so didn't bother getting replacements from CB when I had plasticard here that would do the job) but the little stuff is all metalwork. Gunbarrels are done with brass wire or tube and a drill.

I don't think the Infinity community is against conversions. You see conversions on the official Infinity forums all the time.

I have a bunch of converted models done for two main reasons:

1) To get a model with a weapon selection CB hasn't made yet (like a Hac Tao with HMG).

2) To get rid of "Helmetless Trash". I have found that I really don't like a lot of the heads that don't have helmets on in Infinity, especially for Yu Jing, the main faction I play. I have found that there is a Necron head which, when cut properly, scales perfectly with Infinity minis and retains that high tech look.

I will post pics when I get my camera into full swing on them.

Thanks for starting this thread, Casey's Law!

As a former GW junkie I'm conversion-happy by nature too, and seeing the lack of kitbashing in the Infinity community was puzzling at first. Then I realized how much folks believe in the CB sculptors and want to support their product. They get really into buying everything that comes out, even getting duplicates of minis to have weapon variations (where most GW players would just magnetize).

I'm somewhere in between: buying every CB thing that I can afford, but happily adding to my collection with kitbashes and converted proxies. I also really value the individual poses that GW players get out of their multipose kits, so I reposition some of my CB figs' arms etc., and want to do more of that in future.

Overall, I hope that we can drag the CB community into more awesome conversions and upgrades, while our converting habits also build solid business for CB.

My conversions so far:

I've got a Hsien with switchable MULTI rifle/HMG that I converted to get a link team of 3 Hsien (yes, only for very large games).

I'm currently GSing-up a linkteam of Wu Ming so that I can field 5 of the suckers. The Daofei armor and helms are very close, so it's mostly a matter of minor GS fills and some reposing.

Finally, I've got a ton of HeroClix plastics that I'll be using to field three full groups of Uberfallkomando once I get started with Nomads.

No pics just yet, but I'm hoping to get at least a few phonecam shots this weekend to post here and on the CB site.

Oh, and as a last note: converting Infinity stuff using GW parts is rather tricky as matching the scales is hard. However Dark Eldar and Eldar parts do pop up every once in a while.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

My conversions are mainly limited to headswaps (after a bunch of trades, I ended up with 10 fusiliers, with triples of some and doubles of others. So I found some scale helmets with visors that suited them and used those). Now have two distinct groups of them that whilst they may have the same pose, are no longer just all clones.

That's two of each model, one of each has a helmet headswap. Those are Eureka/GZG 25mm New Anglian Confederation (NAC) Royal Marines . No, the helmets aren't separate normally - but a razor saw fixed that minor detail. This is the figure it comes from:
.

The other one I have painted (I don't post pics of unpainted models, I don't play with them, either) was the "squad leader" from the starter box except he had a miscast blob for a head (it's the pilot style helmet guy).

The camera shows the flaws in my painting - because it has better resolution than my eyes do. I personally can't see those details from arm's length so don't paint them (faces and eyes). I don't win awards for painting - but I don't enter such comps anyway, so I don't particularly care.

Cool stuff guys! I wish i'd checked back sooner!

@Chrome: Nice conversions, i like the simple tweaks and swaps that make your force unique.

@Savnock: Can't wait to see some pics, dude! Maybe Dakka will change how many people convert Infinity minis, we have so many addicts here after all!

@Announcer: Could you post some conversions form the official forums? I can never find them but i'd love to see more.

@Casey's Law, maybe a challenge for Infinity conversion (perhaps hosted on the CB boards since there's already a paint comp here) would be a good idea.

Ooh. Interesting thread.

Nothing major, just the first Infinity fig I painted last year, which also necessitated my first minor conversion when I accidentally knocked this Daylami off my desk and onto the hard stone floor. The bugger faceplanted. With a little quick thinking, I slapped a mass of greenstuff on the top of his head and did my untrained best to get it to look like some kind of high tech headset. Now I've got a multi-use proxy for a Ghulam/Halqa hacker, or even the Najjarun engineer. Hell, I never really wanted to use him as a bog standard Daylami anyway.

Just posted the following to my blog, now you can see the Forgeworld Servo Skulls in action on an Ariadnian Chasseur and Veteran Kazak:

So, the Veteran Kazak and Chasseur are supposed to have light flamers, and because I like WYSIWYG, and my modelling/converting requirements hadn't been completely satisfied by the bases, I went in search of solutions.

First up, I tried making my own combi flamer attachments:

Yeah, this isn't as easy as it looks! Those Infinity miniatures are *tiny*.

So I went in search of alternatives/inspiration:

Yeah, 40K is just too big. Those little attachments are from the Forge World Servo Skulls and looked my best bet...

A bit of pinning and jobs a good one!
