Ailaros wrote:For how much people complain about GW tailoring their message to teenagers, the base is a lot older than you'd expect. Nowadays with external competition (younger people would rather play video games than paint an army and bring it to the table), as well as the obvious monetary thing (it's tough fielding an army on your parent's dime), it shouldn't be too surprising that your average wargammer skews older.

Yes. But I doubt many people really get into the hobby as adults (some may, just saying that I don't think it's alot). Older people in the hobby were by and large formed by their teenage years. They spend alot of those in the broader genre, and for quite a fair share of 40K players in 40K as such.

Thus, if you get em while you're young, you may have customers that come back again and again and again (even if they may temporarily stray due to other interests or real-life concerns).

I'm 24. I've played off/on since I was around 14, but I got into painting models(Warhammer was the last one I got introduced to, had been doing scale armor kits prior) for 5 years before that.

Folks in here make me feel old! I was introduced to 40k when I was 22. Didn't actually pick up the hobby until right before my 28th birthday. My friend who got me into playing is in his mid 30s, and has built and painted 40k armies since his early 20s. Haven't played more than a few friendly games (nothing at the FLGS yet...ours here is pretty small), but as somebody who has been doing scale aircraft models since I was like 6, it's something I really enjoy!

GW outlets are for the younglings and 20 somethings with nothing to do with their lives. Wargaming clubs are for your older lot with jobs and families who only have time to spair that one evening every night in the week. I'm 19, when I get home and have jack all to do I play with my dollies, else I'm out at college or being dragged between bars by less inhibited friends. I don't have the focuss for more than one game system (we'll ignore that I'm playing a skirmish campaign right now derived from 40k's background), yeah, the youth today really lack an attention span I hear, but I guess its just the kids and guys my age who aren't doing anything with their lives that are actually that into the hobby. =/

I'm 21, but I also have two siblings who play as well. One of them is 19 and the other is 11, so a wide range in our house.

On a boat, Trying not to die.

I used to run a army that came out when I was four-ish.

Hooray for being one of the filthy young-uns!

I do get called a college student more often than not, however, as I look much older than 16.

Nosey, ain't ya?

I am 15 recently and have been playing 3 years and I could therefore be part of a Minority. Mind you this thread may be skewed as the snot nosed whiny brats that have cash for brains probably won't have heard of Dakka so it isn't an accurate survey.

I actually prefer my Warhammer to my Xbox. Namely because Warhammer is more fun, more interactive and a good social outlet. Plus I can't afford Xbox live.

Yet you can afford to but some guys! But yea, I have pretty much the same reason :/

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I think gamer's age group are stereo typed for the worse. All the other kids my age just paint their army like a rainbow and have little respect. And because of them I get stereo typed into someone who is just buying everything on my "rich" parents (I live in DC as most people are rich, we aren't) I expected more adults play it because of previously said, video games and the cost.

P.S. This store gives 25% off GW items 24/7 and they ship, it's where I buy :/ http://riwhobbies.net/

If it's from the far side, you might want to stop pushing. It'll just make it further away.
