There's a class called Guardsman.

Your argument is flawed.

It is not, because you don't play as a guardsman in his/her actual regiment, you play as a guardsman working for an Inquisitor.

But I'm gonna give up now, it's obvious your not going to see my point.

Fear not, I am sure this game will crush all others under foot swiftly and mercilessly, i.e. it will push other games off the top charts.

Maybe they will talk about their future games at e3, see how it is getting on.

Very much doubt that, history shows that titles that go through development hell mostly come out as sub par games.

Just have to throw in my 2 cents here, since some people are throwing around military-related comments (being in the military myself).

We have stores on base referred to as Clothing and Sales. While we don't buy actual weapons like m16's and guns, they do have assortments of issued and non-issued but allowable items and equipment, including uniform replacements, better optics, enhanced eye and ear protection, and even anti-ballistics (kevlar, body armor, etc). We can, however, buy combat knives and edged weapons. We can even get tactical equipment for our weapons, like laser sights, flashlights, grips, etc. Most of the stuff sold by Clothing and Sales is a step up from the stuff we get at the Central Issue Facility. But, it comes out of our pocket. We can also get our dress uniforms modified at these places - buying replacement ribbons, medals, patches, etc.

Thats why I'm not against imperial classes getting "issued" weapons, when the players can upgrade each weapon. You have a standard lasgun that will be with you the entire game. Throw a new sight on it, swap out the barrel, get a better charger, better heat sinks, etc. Kit out your weapon. The better gear you kit it out with, the more fancy it'll look.

Thanks for the info mate. And yeah, I'd be totaly fine with an upgrade as you go system, and maybe unlocking special weaponry through levels/quests (think Melta, plasma etc.). But just getting Lasgun x which is better then Lasgun Y from ye olde Lasgun shoppe would be silly. Certain enemies dropping a better model is fine aswell, if it's at least somewhat logical.

I just killed a Gaunt! It dropped a Lasgun. Well, unless it has digestion damage anyway. XD

That's a spot on idea but I'm thinking getting smaller upgrades like bayonet, flashlight, larger energy pack ect. upgrades per your choice, and then have major ones that depend on your spec/playstile like turning the lasgun into a longlas or a lascarabine.

That would be relevant, except that it isn't.
Soladrin wrote:Very much doubt that, history shows that titles that go through development hell mostly come out as sub par games.
I don't think this game has gone through dev hell yet, however. It's had a single major change-- which the devs have stated they are excited about, in fact, likely having never really wanted to do an MMO in the first place-- but that's about it.

As for weapons, I think getting basic weapons and improving or customizing them is the way to go, rather than getting a MkI Mars Pattern Lasgun and then replacing it later with a MkIII Mars Pattern Lasgun which does more damage... except it wouldn't.

IIRC, the previously announced classes for "Imperium" didn't include guardsmen to begin with, it was something like marine, techpriest, psyker, and assassin.

I'm pretty sure some form of guardsman was in there.

The guardsman was suppose to become an assassin later on in the game, but started off as such.

Oh yeah, that was it. I hope they ditch that progression system all together and opt for something that actually makes sense.

As long as it doesn't become Space Marine: The RPG I'm fine though.

Well, of course they say they're excited about it. No developer is gonna go out there and say "We're pretty bummed about this. I don't really wanna work on it anymore."

gak, I'm sure the DNF team was "very excited" the whole 12 years they were working on that puddle of mediocrity.

They need to have Adepta Sororitas. I will throw money at any video game with playable SoB. If they don't they need to have mod support so someone can add them in.

That would be cool, but if SoB are in the game they will probably just make them antagonistic as usual, they are pretty cool when they aren't messing with the rest of the Imperium's forces but don't get much love from the video games, they either aren't present or behave like morons. Same gak like with IG being constantly displayed as incompetent cowards who need the SM to come and help them all the time.
Being able to play as a Sister Celestial would be awesome though. Killing stuff with fire never gets old.

Actually they're treated better in video games than they are in the lore.

This.

I wish they were as bad ass in the fluff as they are in any game they've been in.

They are - depending on which fluff you're looking at. GW's Armageddon campaign, a number of short stories in the White Dwarf, and a few select BL novels (look for Kev Walker and James Swallow) have them in a pretty positive light. It all depends on your focus ... and of course one has to find these gems first.

If Dark Millennium is single player, I'd actually support a Sororitas appearance again. That being said, I don't think they're considered popular enough. Especially in light of its financial crisis, the developer will likely want to play it safe and focus on the Marines.
