I think hanging is actually still legal in some states, but hasn't been used for a good while. If done properly, hanging is actually a relatively quick, humane way to execute somebody. I'm not sure why it would be a more appropriate method of execution than any of the other legal methods for any other crime that might warrant the death penalty.
I know hanging is still used in military executions, but I have no idea about state executions. I know some states allow the condemned to choose their method of execution.

Wow, someone wrote an opinion piece for a news outlet. Who will protect the public?! Again, I'm not sure what the big deal is. Every news everywhere publishes editorials and opinion pieces, and it's pretty obvious that's what this is.

Methinks there may have been a layer of sarcasm missed here, although I could well be wrong; Mel's an enigma

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

That way you need to get licensed before becoming a parent.
It would help reduce incidents like this. (Pipe dream utopia, I know, but I can dream!)

I'm certain the mother did not intend to harm the child, it's not like she stabbed the poor little thing. Her life sentence is the fact that she killed her own baby.
We were once so close to heaven, St. Peter came out and gave us medals; declaring us "The nicest of the damned".

This. There are a multitude of factors which could have resulted in her accidentally killing her own baby as has been already mentioned. Calling for a life sentence is needlessly draconian.

The prefect example of someone missing the point.
Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

How does it present itself as news any more than any other opinion piece that gets printed in a newspaper or on a website?

Lack of a first person voice until the last sentence; news style headline rather than clear op-ed piece.

I agree that the criticism of the article as news is off base. After all, there's plenty of room to criticize the article as an opinion piece, because as they go this one is pretty damn bad.

Isn't that what I said?

That is where the evaluations come in.
