They're related! Think of them that way, and you'll ace both

(And hang onto that 3.5! I started low in college and didn't get back above a 3.5 until getting my VERY LAST GRADE back in . One of the things I'm most proud of from that time, but also rather stressful working my way back up!)

Oh dear GOD... This forum can be so incredibly hostile over the slightest things.

OP, it's awesome that you know so much about 40k.
In my view, there are plenty of skills this game can equip you with which can generally benefit your life.

I saw a guy on YouTube vlogging about 40k, who said he actually put wargaming on his CV / resume due to the ways it has optimized him in various ways. Take for example math skills, quick and sharp thinking, forward planning, memory training, team building, as well as painting and yes - despite the bad rap wargaming can get as being something for people lacking social skills - I believe it can actually help aid them.

I think this is more about sussing out where your heart is and what you really want to do with your life. Please don't feel ashamed about your skills. If 40k is where your heart really is, (which surely is what you would like to base your work around), you could probably easily get a job at your local GW or hobby shop.

If you DO fail your finals, yes, you still have your incredible 40k knowledge and yes you can put that to use which will actually help you. You could still wake up every day and work at a place which is everything you enjoy and know about.

Take 40k as your invulnerable save! ;D

I was the same way in and out of college. You really don't learn much until you are OUT of college, which is unfortunate. Just take it day by day and you'll find a nitch that includes memorizing large tables of data. : P

Hi all.
From an old gamers stand point, when you can brag about how much in game statistics you have remebered, then the game is too complicated, or needs reference cards!

But then I prefer games that have much higher tactical focus and far less strategic focus. Its just an age thing.
(I like games that take less than an hour to learn entirely, and a lifetime to master.)

You're in college. Change your sig/avatar. Please. I beg of you.

And you have an avatar of someone flexing muscles. Just as childish.
Also i got into ponies because if my love of gender studies in how gender forms and bronies make for an interesting case in the breakdown of gender norms and how people react to those breakdowns.
As OT: It just that, I feel as if i have no marketable skill in life. Horrible at school except in sociology and not everyone think me majoring in that is a good idea.
And my ability to paint is good but not enough to land me a job.

U Jelly Mad Mirin brah? Fuuarkkin Aesthetics cuz. Are you aware?

On a more serious note, I've actually put down my commission painting on my resume as a past job. I painted for a handful of years through my highschool/college years as a second job. This managed to generate enough income for me to live on my own until I launched a salaried job out of college. Dealing with clients/website/youtube/handling finances at a young age is fairly impressive to most employers. Don't rely on painting as a main source of income, however it does toss you a few hundred a month extra spending money which is nice.

No marketable skills? Everyone has marketable skills! After you've worked a few jobs you start to discover what you excel at. Most people end up doing something they never expected they would do at your age. Out of curiosity, how old are you? I never expected to be here at 18. I hold an Edu associates and I work in HR at a bank chain. Unrelated and pays about the same as if I finished my Bachelors and taught at a High School. Ironically ex gf and sister both hold associates in Psychology, yet work in unrelated fields. You never know where you will go, what path you will take, or when you'll find your calling.

Goodluck OP

- Also can you explain 'gender studies" and all that jazz?

My Roomate's brother has aspergers. He's an absolute genius with a guitar, platform games, and car knowledge. In terms of socializing/going to school/focusing on anything that will progress him in life? Almost no ability in that area. He's stagnating at the same level of when he was 18. He's now 23/24. Most of you guys are still young. The 19-23 years are the years you excel and make something of yourselves.

I know quite a few guys I was in an education program with who are almost Histoy Teachers now Harriticus. Look into that!

College made me smarter... but didn't paticularlly give me any work applicable skills. You actually have to work a TON before you pick up most of your skills. My roomate got his first actual job as a pizza delivery boy. At 20. Never having a job before, thats about all he could get. no one cared about his 2 year Philosophy degree

You're a freshman in college. This is expected of you. It's absurdly rare when a 19 year old is a 10k a day CEO and the best at everything he does. At 19 I worked at Lucky Brand and Hollister in a shopping outlet and commuted to college. The above post was straight depressing. You have a lot of time. When you're 30 you'll look back and go "Damn playing 40k, working part time, college partying, taking classes, and chilling all week was the best time of my life".

Oh man you're still so young, I really wouldn't fret.

A lot of jobs can depend on connections - which means that even if you have awesome qualifications, they still depend on making connections in order to go through with a job and actually have a choice by broadening your horizons - and in this day and age with ease of networking, it has never been easier to make things happen.

Look upon all of your interests in terms of transferable skills. If your main thing is 40k, you really could plug that to great effect. I think it's pretty safe to say that most people want their ideal job to surround the thing that they love the most and know the most about.

Ha ha ha m there is no money in pushing GW or serving cut meat. But hey, I might own a GW someday but that will be after I have little use for lots of money. I feel we find things we like doing and we do them a lot. This makes us better at doing them. If we are really interested we would stay up to write and read about them, spends hundreds of dollars reading books on that interest, and even spend thousands of dollars making that interest into a physical product. . . . gamers, sports fans, car enthusiasts, carpenters, engineers, designers. . . the list will go on for days. . .

Jimmies are Rustled Brother SRM

Darklight edited his post out of peer pressure for some random 9k poster calling him out. He should have just left it. It is rational opinion. He simply stated that he can not fathom why someone would like little animated ponies on cartoon network and gave solid advice to the OP, if say the OP was a 40 year old man. In this case the OP is a young guy who has these hobbies/likes. He is not the one odd guy playing Pokemon that is in his fifties surrounded by ten year olds at a FLGS. Would I call you out for your flash animation of a space marine from an amusing youtube video and say it's "lame" - No I'm not in middle school. I would however question an older guy talking about ponys that's targeted audience is young girls ages 8-12. People have opinions over forums and tend to put things in an more offensive tone. Would Darklight have said that IRL? Possibly. Depends if the OP was wearing a pony shirt and was acting oddly/annoying.

Wargaming does attract some players with eccentric interests. Brony? or Pony fans are just odd people. Same as the fans in this thread: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/448481.page

Auxellion,

From one guy who really doesn't get the ponies to another, ultimately, what does it matter? I don't get it. It's kind of an eyesore when I look at the site, especially at work, but that's why ad-block has a rightclick feature. It makes most of the avatar weirdness on dakka go away. I mean, I'm sure I like things 'normal' people might consider bizarre too, sure, (my music collection is evidence enough) but what harm does his love of pastel colored ponies really have? You've been adamantly angry (or if not angry, SOMETHING) about it this entire thread. The way I see it, ultimately, he's no more fethed up than myself or anyone else on here for liking what he does. The only difference, as far as I can tell, is that he's more proud of it than most others are.

I PM'd you to respond to my post. Then added some smiley faces!

Go read a few dozen of the OP's posts. He just comes off awkward foreveraloner. He goes out of his way to Just stating what an issue could be. Reading back at my posts it looks like I'm fairly outnumbered. This is the internet. I guess I pulled out my tough guy persona and was outnumbered by men in their forties with their tough guy boots on to defend a kid who clearly didn't bother to defend himself and need a rejigging of his social outlook
