Subject: Is there a model that got you to play an army?
I changed from Gunnar Red Moon's company to Logan Grimnar's company just for Arjac Rockfist. One of the best miniatures that GW has released.
The Tick: Everybody was a baby once, Arthur. Oh, sure, maybe not today, or even yesterday. But once. Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs of hope. And you've got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception.

I got into WFB Chaos because of the Lord on Juggernaut model. That thing oozes sheer badassery and I'm sure it's sold more than it's share of armies.
I got into Orks because of the Brian Nelson mock up in an old issue of White Dwarf finally matching my vision of what orks should look like after the silly looking 2nd edition sculpts. Same for Orcs.
And I got into Trollbloods because of the Earthborn Dire Troll.

I couldn't find a better picture of him online, but this is the model that got me into Space Marines, and by extension 40k:
I got him as a gift from my godfather since he knew I was into sci-fi and miniatures. Mine has a combi-melta instead of a bolt pistol, but that started me with Space Marines.
Since then, the Catachan Command Squad got me started with IG, the Black Reach boss got me started with Orks, the Vindicator and Chaos Terminators got me started with Iron Warriors, and the great Valhallan metals got me started with them.

I got a bloodthirster a long time ago from GW, but the model fit together so poorly that I couldn't get it to stay together. I ended up stripping the model for parts. It may have just been a poor experience, but still kinda ticked me off. Hopefully the FW model will work out better.

It could be. Harlequins are recruited from both Dark and Craftworld Eldar.
I'm pretty sure (correct me if I'm wrong) the fluff says Harlequins are mercenaries in the codex, so that was my link. They're in the codex, so they're Dark Eldar to me.
Harlequins are a subsect of Eldar that are tasked with looking over the Black Library and making sure that Eldar...dom...remembers the Legends of Old, including the fall. Harlequins are recruited from both Craftworld Eldar and their Dark brethren.
Also, they worship the Laughing God, so whenever they die and Slaneesh tries to eat their souls, the Laughing God appears and nutpunches Slaneesh, then takes the Harlequin soul to go bro it up with all the other dead Harlies in the webway.

Except the Solitaire, who is seriously bad news as the representative of Slaanesh Just talking to one can damn you forever...
I love Harlequins I used to have a whole army of them, when that was a legal army...
For me it's the new Cronos/Talos Parasite engine.
I used to play DE back a long ways, but gave them up because association with the thongs+assless chaps brigade didn't sit too well with me/my wife
I managed to talk myself out of the new DE, gorgeous though they were, as i didn't need ANOTHER army...
Then the Talos and the Razorwing got released...
Game over, man, Game over!!

They aren't mercenaries, they have their own agenda. And they are in the Craftworld codex as well, so no, Harlequins are not Dark Eldar.
Damn, people, read your fluff.

Well by that standard, they aren't "normal" Eldar either. They're not part of either society, other than their traveling road shows, but the model is part of both codices, so for all intents and purposes, they can be considered Dark Eldar.
That's not actually what I said. If you read it more carefully I said that the Death Jester model appears in both the dark elder and elder codices, and so by that estimation it is dark elder. Fluff wise they are neither, but in game terms they can be considered both.

Yeah, I know that's what you said. It still doesn't make any sense.

In any case, the Death Jester is part of the Dark Eldar model line, and it was that model that caused him to get into the army. The fact that in its fluff a Death Jester isn't Dark Eldar is moot to the topic. Its like how the Kroot model could get someone into Tau without actually being of the tau race.

When I was collecting DE I had the same issue (not because I was married though), so I converted them from Kabalite Warriors

Death Jester model came out as part of the Eldar model line for the codex release back years before the DE codex, but that is beside the point of the thread.
For me it was the good old Necron Destroyer.
And also the Eldar farseer at the back of the old rulebook, I can't find a pic of him, but it was a converted farseer which had won a golden demon.

Kaptain Badrukk brought me back to Orks. I blame his model for my decision to paint a yellow tunic / grey skinned horde. I wanted to enter a painting competition, but decided I wanted a Orky model. Other folks had already enter Thrakka. So I went with Badrukk.
A none GW model that resulted in an army is Karchev the Terrible. Since started WMHD I thought his model was amazing, but I'd never seen anyone even attempt to play him in competitive play. Everyone always said "he's just a warjack." So I saw him 50% off so I picked him up, build, paintined him in a weekend. They won an ebay auction for the Khador starter. Built painted them. Off I was. He is my favorite Warcaster. I throw him into some horrific situations and have learned if you play him in theme, he works. If you try to slink back, he doesnt. He is by far, my favorite model in any gaming range.

I'm just about to start a Tyranids army just because the new tyrant and tervigon/tyrannofex models are (in my mind) amazing, don't forget the trygon either, even if they have a bad codex
I would also like to make an aircav guard list one day, just as I have a huge love for the valkyrie model

I had a Space Marine army box IN HAND and I was taking one last look around to see if there was anything else I wanted, and there it was: buried on the bottom shelf. A Tau Hammerhead. I never regretted the steep learning curve required to have a tank that beautiful and succeed.

Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.

As simple as the two look, Long Fangs and Lone Wolves were enough to make me interested enough in Space Wolves to buy 1500 points worth when I only intended on buying a codex for another army that day.
