Subject: Elementary, my dear Lucy Liu - CBS is doing their own version of a modern Sherlock Holmes
Thing is, I'm such a big fan of Sherlock Holmes, I own every book and every incarnation in film, I have the original black and white movie with Basil Rathbone in (excellent by the way!) and I even liked Young Sherlock Holmes with that weird skinny kid in and a fat child as Watson.
So.. I will probably really enjoy the show even though I hate the whole idea and find the idea of a female John Watson blasphemous.
Needless to say Ill be watching it, ill just hate myself while I do.

I suggest you watch it mate, I saw it after cos I used to watch it with my Dad when I was about 10, so its probably before your time.
Googled it.. it was made in 1984!
But I recommend you pick it up, its a great series, and If you liked the modern one, I'm sure you will like JBs Holmes as well.

@Matty Did you enjoy all the sly references to the books in the BBC version? Makes those who know the books able to get that little bit more out of the series. I can't wait to see how he managed to pull off that misdirection at the end of the Reichenbach Fall,

Yes mate I did, I think that's why it was such a good show, It was clearly fun and enjoyable to laymen like my initially disinterested missus, but also had a great many references to the novels. I'm genuinely looking forward to seeing how they solve the season finale, because

Might want to spoiler that for those that haven't seen it yet.

Molly must have been involved, perhaps provided him with a corpse from St Barts mortuary, but how did he get that up on the roof without Moriarty noticing?

Is it just me, or does this version of 21B Baker Street look remarkably similar to the one in the new BBC show?

Everyone has always loved Sherlock at all times.
Indeed, he must be pretty much one of the world most well liked fictional characters, probably a fair way behind Mario, but you know.. not bad for an old guy.
I remember watching him on TV when I was a boy, and watching that Speilberg kids movie "Young Sherlock Holmes" literally about 20 years ago, so Its not like he went away, I think he is just back in the limelight after a few years off following the BBCs excellent show.
As I said, the 1984 series was excellent, and I'm sure when that came out people in 1984 would have been saying "That new Sherlock show on telly is proper good I tell thee"
You know.. the same, just with less internet acronyms.

As has been said he is well loved and awesome.
Read it and your mind will know http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherlock_Holmes I like the bit where Holmes is the only fictional person ever to be knighted
She must have, he pre-dates her. HM is more likely to know him than the Crazy Frog or the Ninja Turtles.

Howard A Treesong wrote:This sounds like a typically awful American adaptation. For some reason in the UK we just buy American shows, the Americans don't do this and prefer to remake, and there are numerous terrible examples. Thinking that making John Watson a woman is such a basic attempt at a 'modern twist' that's it's laughable. Can you imagine the meetings where this was discussed? "Oh we've got an idea, big idea, it's Sherlock Holmes, in New York, and here's the twist, Watson is a woman!".
If they make this and avoid creating a load of 'sexual tension' between Watson and Sherlock I'll be amazed. It's pretty much the reason for having a male and female lead. It's what all series do, like Castle, it'll be X-Files without the flying saucers. Yawn.
$20 they either shack up at some point in the show or it'll be on of those 'past mistakes'
Looking at the premise, America has outdone their own stupidity this time around (which is saying something).
How nice of you to slur an entire country over the trailer for an as yet unreleased TV show on a private television network.
See, I think they missed a trick with the US version. if they'd have paired Sherlock with a wisecracking urban youth I'd have watched this, if only for the outside chance of the aforementioned youth saying "S'up, Holmes?"

I've had a look and the BBC episodes are 90 minutes long, also by this time next year Martin Freeman will be world famous, what with the title role in the Hobbit, and Cumberbatch is playing Khan in the next Star Trek I think. So they might end up asking for gratuitous amounts of money for a 4th series, however they've said in interviews that they really enjoy making it.
I've never seen the Jeremy Brett versions, so will have a watch, are they straight adaptations from the books?
