IF I play in 6th (its not looking good TBH) Im an Ork player, I can just build my own from other, cheaper things. So I would enjoy the challenge of building some DAKKAjets

Every other codex gets a model (bar Tau and Demons - but they don't have a unit that fits iirc). Nids have to covert theirs. Awesome.

However, were that not the case, then the situation would irritate me. But it would be completely expected, and since 5th Ed. was completely dominated by mech (of which the Necrons generally had very little) I would love to see a meta where Fliers play an important role, just because SW, GK and BA do not have access to Fliers.

So I, for one, welcome our new Flier overlords.

...that being the case, however, Fliers will not be mandatory in order to compete, for the reason that I have underlined above.

I would feel very sad. 40k is a game between solid core units completing missions, not a game of the player with the shiniest toys that makes the loudesd vroom noises wins.

Toyhammer already bothers me enough. If they introduced new, mandatory toys without ways for core units to handle them, I'd probably quit until they came to their senses.

Maybe it could be something along the lines of the Blight Drone or FW's current range of Daemon Engines, posessed bio(daemono?)-mechanical things.

And yes, Daemons should get an update on 6th ed, probably need it even more than 'nids. Like Sisters, they're becoming a rare sight lately. It's kinda sad.

Blame the ever popular GKs for that. Even though daemons have by far one of the best counters for them in a Skarbrand-Khorne army. Certainly better than Tyranids. SitW doesn't quite compare to a Brass Collar as an option.

Razorwing has been out for ages.

Still waiting on the Voidraven, but most folks just use a Razorwing with DL to represent it.

It won't have any appreciable effect on me.

I've put the 40kays aside for a few years and might come back when the pendulum swings back in 7th. It's not like GW will stop me using my minis for other games, after all (40k ISN'T the ONLY SF battle game out there - maybe the only one at company scale, but it isn't the ONLY game out there).

On the off chance that it did, it's really NOT THAT hard to slap wings and engines onto a brick and call it a SM flier.

I wouldn't mind them being a good new mechanic that changes up the current meta game and spices things up. But if anything becomes mandatory, not just fliers, to the point where if you don't bring them and your opponent does almost certainly decides the game, then that would probably irk most players.

I'll probably eventually get some storm talons, but I don't want to have to field them to stand a chance.

How would you feel if fliers became mandatory to compete?

Not to happy about it on one level, but would be happy for my Tau to finally get somethin new. So mixedfeelings.

I'm more upset at the thought of the rumoured importation of Fantasy's broken magic system into 40K. That and possibly premeasuring, will have to see how the turn order works before I know for sure..

SW, BA, DA, SM (not sure about BT, CSM or GK) can take Land Speeders. If GW wanted all armies to have flyers, they could easily update the rules to give those models certain rules that would make them function like Stormtalons.

I'd be just fine with fliers playing a greater role in 6th, just so long as I can buy conversion kits to make Firestorms. Then we're safe.

Also, I'll be happy that my Nightwing gets to be unmothballed, I haven't used it in a long time.

If they function like flimmers (skimmers on large oval flying bases) do now but are simply harder to hit or can only be assaulted by jetbikes and jump infantry I don't think I'll care. If they actually use the horrible FW flyer rules I'll stop playing. The FW flyer rules are terrible; they're basically death satellites that completely circumvent true line of sight and really don’t even need a model for the same reason.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did.

I have a feeling fliers rules will be joined with Anti Aircraft rules. To compound an assumption with a further assumption I think MLs, which everybody already has, and tlAC dreads, which everybody also has, will take care of fliers just fine.

Shorter range, BS 2, No alt fire option....

But otherwise equivilent, sure..

Lootas will be useful though, as they actually have soemthing passing for range by ork standards..

I think Orks should get Tractor Kannon back, to drag those fliers to the ground

I wouldn't mind if flyers were very powerful, providing that Anti-Air is viable. As for the flyers themselves, it depends on how their rules work.

There are the recent GW rules (which are the most likely to be accepted, being recent and the only GW, non-apocalypse rules); I haven't read them in detail but from what I've seen they are basically very fast skimmers- balanced but very unrealistic.

There are the GW apocalypse rules; they're good but they turn the game into a contest of "who has the most range".

Then there are the Forgeworld rules; they're the most realistic, but somewhat complicated and like the apoc rules, they put CC armies at a disadvantage.

Nids totes have lots of MLs (if you consider "lots" to be one worse AP and half the range).
And TL Str7 AP4 coming out of their biosacks.
