I know it has no range, but a Lemon with a Punisher Cannon and 3 HB might work?

Why take such an aweful tank when you have Hydras that would hit normally, are twin-linked, and have a stronger weapon?

Nids totes have lots of MLs (if you consider "lots" to be one worse AP and half the range).
And TL Str7 AP4 coming out of their biosacks.
Oh, wait - no, sorry. That's just marines.
FYI - there's more than just MEQ out there.
And Eldar... And Guard... And Tau...

Why bring a sensible, low cost, accurate solution when you can bring a tank that costs 3 times as much, has guns sticking out of every surface, and makes orks green with envy?
Plus it even mentions that Punishers have been used in emergencies as antiair platforms when a regiment needs more anti air firepower. I'd love to see 3 punishers duke it out with 3 dakka jets and see who came out on top.

But otherwise equivilent, sure..
BS2 that is why they are cheap, plus they are assault weapons so the range is not that much shorter, it has a longer threat range than a ML if they are mounted on a rokkit buggy.
No alt fire, because it is not needed with all the shootas that orks bring
S8 rokkit fits the bill quite nicely.

This weekend I pitched my new jets against a Tau player running a Skyray. I had always pictured it as ranged artillery, but seems it also excels in AA (or Anti-Skimmer) roles. That thing pretty much erased the dakkajets from existance.
On the plus side, the jets kept his Pathfinders and the Skyray busy shooting at the skies for two turns...
Let's see how it turns out when the flier rules finally come out. But the Tau have a potentially great AA platform in the Skyray.

Well, so far my experience with the new fliers was a bit on a non-sequitur. A Vulcan player with two stormtalons faced my melta bikes this evening. I got a great turn 2 reserve roll (6 of 8 squads, all out flanking bike squards) and a squad of bikes popped the first talon and another squad immobilized and then assaulted and destroyed the other. So we never got to see how well they performed (other than still dying to melta fire fairly easily... str 8 ap 1 is still str 8 ap 1, even without the extra die).

I played a game against myself with IG vs SM and used a stormtalon. It got immobilized on T2, but had a bunch of stuff in front of it, and destroyed a chimera, Leman Russ and shot up some guys, now i wasnt shooting at it as i had termies coming at me(im using the IG in 1st person as they are my main army) but i think it does alright if there are higher priority targets that prevent it from getting owned early because of its AV11. Overall, i like the thing

The joys of being a Guard player.
I'm all sorted for AA guns with my 3 hydras with heavy stubbers and bolters. That's 25 shots of which 16 of them are twin linked. Going to be putting a lot of lead down range and none of that "moving flat out cover save" for you my friend

I've been planning on buying 3 Hyrda's for almost 2 years now. Seems now I have a much better reason to. I really don't mind at all if flyers come into their own in this edition. It's been far too long to not have air support in a simulator of the 41st millennium. Maybe we'll finally see an AC-130 type super-heavy flyer for the IG come out. I'd buy that, along with zeppelin transports.

Well considering most fliers are just AV11 all around(give or take) my AA dread(AKA rifleman dread) will be fulfilling a new role.
