Well, yeah, that's the obvious option. It's not like they could write a decent Eldar, Dark Eldar, or Tau-centric novel.

What's worse is that they "space marine" (used as a verb here, hah!) other races....Necrons were too xenos, thus they were remade into "spaaaaaaaiiiz mahriiiineeeeeeees" with a twist.
Not to mention the inevitable tin can bonus when it comes to codex writing. And don't go "but but look at Necrons!" on me just now, wait for the first new tin can codex.

I was just stating an opinion.. If you like Marines great, there is something cool about them, I am just stating that I am getting sick of them, it does not mean that you have to..
People saying ignore them, kind of hard to do that when they are so heavily intertwined in 40k... oh well, thanks for the posts everyone.
Funnily enough I was agreeing with you, there needs to be more info on the Xeno's that you shouldn't have to dig for, and I neither posted negative comments or ripped on you

in Inquisitor, a Space Marine can take a krak grenade, pull out the pin, eat the grenade, throw the pin, and the thrown pin will actually kill a normal man, whereas the Space Marine won't even have indigestion. This has actually happened in a game. Hell, a marine can throw his bolt shells and do more damage than by shooting his boltgun |

110% agree with the OP.
Oversaturation of Gak marines is boring.
We have broken codexes, out of date codexes by YEARS not months... etc... There simply is minimal love for Xenos.
Once all the codexes are up to date, it will be a different story since alot of people will want to jump on the new shiney bandwagon. There are quite a few DE players right now due to the good promotion of that range and book, Necrons will be the same in 6E.. They just got a new book and have a full model line... Eldar, Tau and Chaos next! If IoM get anything before those 3 Its proof GW is lame.

Well, books don't mean much. The production pipeline is defined by the number of models in it. DE got more new releases than Space Wolves, Blood Angels and Grey Knights taken together. Same for Necrons. So I don't really see the Marine bias. Throughout 5th edition (2008 to 2011/2012), GW has turned out nearly three times as many Xenos releases as Marine releases.

That might have something to do with the fact that DE and Necrons were both around 10 years old.
And needed a MAJOR update.
SM never needs major updates because their range is already made and their basic stat line on S4 T4 3+ save is always going to be competitive. So they can overlook them for decades and still be a solid army.
The fact is still that Tau, Eldar and Chaos are STILL in need of an update where as SM only need a few tweaks. Automatically Appended Next Post: I consider DA a mini dex and not a full Book.

you all talking about avoiding space marine posts, and fluff, and things of that nature... sure, that is easily avoided. However, when you go to a 40k tournament, or your FLGS to play some games.. You can not avoid them there. At a tournament you don't get to choose who you do and don't play against, and there are so many SM that you are very likely to be forced to play against them. Or at your FLGS there is a high chance someone there will be talking about SM.. are you just going to walk away whenever someone starts talking about SM?

Calm my friend they know not of what they speak.
IMHO
codexes in need of update list
1. Chaos space Marines
2. Tau
3. Black Templars
4. Dark Angels
5. Eldar
6. Demons
7. Tyranids
8. Orks
9. Sisters
10. Spess Mehrens
11. Blood Angels
12. Imperial Guard
13.Dark Eldar
14.Space wolves
15.Grey knights
16.Necrons
yes their are quite a few imperial codicies to the top of the list but that does not make us all overpowered. Hell templars and DA pay more for everything and are short a lot of options.

Black Templar, then Tau, then Eldar..... How many Space Marine Codexes do you need though , That would be like making a Codex for my Saim Hann and then having one for Ulthwe, Biel Tan, Ailtoic, etc., or seperate Ork Codexes for each clan or group - goffs, snake bites, Evil Sunz, etc. Back in 1st ed ( WD issues and into 2nd - depending on which major Ork faction you took limmited your army build). The point is I think you can have Imperial Space marines in 1 codex and have the special rules and fluff and special characters in there, why so many books.... I can see Grey Knights having their own since each is a psycher and they are so different.... Long Fangs are Dev squads with special rules, easily put into one codex... how many times can you call a spade a spade ... If they did this I think they would be able to keep up with codexes, so their would not be a space marine one every other dex..
As for more Xenos in 5th edition... um I don't think so... Tyranids, Dark Eldar, Necrons late 5th, Orks late 4th, Chaos Marines, lets see imperium - IG, Blood Angels (both White Dwarf and Book - so 2), Grey Knights, Space Wolves, Marine Codex, SOB White Dwarf.. let me know if I am missing one, lets tally
Xenos - 3(4)
Chaos - 1
Imperium - 7
Marines only Imperium - 5
Hmmmm that looks like more marine codexes to me..... Automatically Appended Next Post: Zweischneid wrote:Milisim wrote:110% agree with the OP.

Warseer is one that keeps a list here.
Heresy Online also had one, though I cannot find it right now.
The Dark Eldar release, through all waves, racked up a total of 31 distinct and separate new product releases (without the Codex or the Battleforce). Grey Knights, in comparison, got 6 on release and a seventh, the Stormraven, slightly ahead of the actual Codex (again not counting the Codex).

But look at Orks and Imperial Guard. Besides, how are Necrons "space marines with a twist"?
The new Necrons are just another civilization that behaves like Imperials...different tombworlds = different orders. Each with a leader (Overlord). Everyone has Bolters. They now trade with others, have fleets, want to establish their own idea of world order by violence / military forces.
Well, the biggest difference being that they obviously are stronger than Space Marines (I mean seriously, the oh-so-great golden pussy corpse did barely manage to "catch" a C'Tan while the Necrons overthrew them? Wimps in cans, I say!).

@Eiluj:
#1. You're too young to have played RT!
#2. Marines are 40k's version of "super heroes"... ala comic books, movies, TV shows, etc. They are the single thing that translates the most easily and naturally from 40k into pop culture. So, with marines... the constant presence is in part, due to the fact that of all the factions, they are the most easily relateable to by the general public. We get them. "super-human heroes fighting to defend humanity from unspeakable evil or conquering aliens"... what's not to get? So, GW put's most of it's money/time where the best payoff is likely to be. Yes, there is a dark side to marines... but compared to the other options... it's still a pretty clear analogue. The guard are too close to normal humans to be inspiring, and everything else is too twisted or too alien to easily relate to. (obviously a lot of us choose to pursue non-marine interests, but we are clearly in the minority)
My two cents...

as far as video game material i bought all the dawn of war II games last week and space marine as well as the expantions there are different race pacs for dawn of war but i haven't played them yet hoping they each have thier own mini campaign or something
as for meq... this is 40k they will always be the posterboys they get more codexes, more models and more press than any other force. xenos get a flavor of the week release then a steady downfall in power as more marines players codexes and fluff are released. i doubt it'll change so i've just accepted it, meq is the star and xenos are the cannon fodder the rabble the mewq destroy to get where they waznt. at least the new models like space wolves and blood angels/grey knights are starting to differentiate units more like paladins sang guard and wolf packs cool models and not all the same

I am just looking forward to soem chaos love from FW/
Honestly, why the marines need/deserve 10 land raider variants and chaos gets stuck with one lack-lustre model.
Marine Land raiders:
Godhammer
Crusader
Redeemer
Prometheus
Helion
Ares
Spartan
Achilles
Proteus
Terminus (the uber lascannon apoc one)
Chaos:
Land Raider

as for meq... this is 40k they will always be the posterboys they get more codexes, more models and more press than any other force. xenos get a flavor of the week release then a steady downfall in power as more marines players codexes and fluff are released. i doubt it'll change so i've just accepted it, meq is the star and xenos are the cannon fodder the rabble the mewq destroy to get where they waznt. at least the new models like space wolves and blood angels/grey knights are starting to differentiate units more like paladins sang guard and wolf packs cool models and not all the same
I know that they will always be space marines and I know that they are the poster children of 40k, it is not going to change, I mainly started the thread to see if anyone else was sick of them like I am... I have space marine armies don't get me wrong, I am part of that group... I am just sick of "Space Marines" the coolest, they will help the pathetic IG, fear the alien, fear the mutant, fear chaos....

Yea I'm pretty sick of marines (always getting preferential treatment as the expense of other armies) but I agree with the posts that say "well that is the way the game is set up, that is 40k". It would be nice if the Xenos got the same level of attention as marines but the game and games workshop just isn't setup for that. I'm only half joking when I say GW should start a new company forgeworld style to publish the other armies and make them totally optional like apocalypse units so GW and 40k can just continue to focus on the marines.
