Mine happened last night. We had company, my wife was explaining to some people what she thinks I do with the hobby. She said and I quote " he plays with little boys". After they left I told her I think I liked it better when she called them dolls. She didn't do it on purpose but you shoul have seen the looks I got.

Well there was this one time that happend 3 weeks ago at our FLGS.
I managed to split the drop pod + marines set with a friend and so I got me new sternguard! As I was busy assembling/removing mold lines etc. a girl around 20 yrs old was watching me assemlble right beside me like 6-12 inches away. As I was more or less 17 yr old looking (I am 13 but I am one of the tallest in the group hehe) my friend asked her a few questions:

"Sister?"
"No"
"Girlfriend?"
"No"
"Fiance?"
"No"
"Friends?"
"No"
"Do you even know each other?"
*As I say with her in unison* "No!"

I ended up being embarrased myself with my friend. She then proceeds to leave.... :(

Although we never knew here "business" at the store, she was taking pics of other guys playing and even one of the players heard her say to a friend "Big boys with big toys" Hahaha

There was also this one time we had a 1v1v1 KT game where I fielded 7 sternguard vs BT and BA. 3 of my vets were in range of 1 plasma gun marine to rapid fire. I decided to use hell fire rounds as during the game I noticed the vengence rounds did nothing while the others did (he rolls 6s for cover saves and 2s for armour saves, the BT player haha). 1st guy rapid fires with 1 hit so he proceeds to wound... I rolled a one. Same thing happend for the other 2 :(
And I was unfortunate enough my Tau shas'el had a burst cannon. He managed to roll all ones :(

i have had 2

1) i left a leman russ on top of my car and forgot about it...untill i got home.....

2) i just got Kharn and was playing him - my thought was i dont want to get him killed so i put him in the BACK of the unit....needless to say not only did he slaughter his own unit but took out the unit they were fighting

I usually keep my hobby to myself with non-inclined friends; I meet new people and if they see the models in my place on display I give em a quick explanation, they give me that "oooooookaaaayy" look and move onto other beer-fueled topics. But one night I was pretty hammered and had a friend over who's never seen them. He said....something....I dont know what, but I thought I should show him my models. So I staggered to the car and got them out (from my last game) and brought them to the porch to show him. Well my drunk ass tripped coming up the steps, and I was carrying my box full of vehicles. One Rhino, My LRC, Drop Pod, and a couple loose figures fell out and shattered all over the porch.

That was the end of my night.

My moment wasn't so much embarrassing more cringe-worthy. I've only recently got back in the hobby after many MANY years away, and find myself with a much higher level of expendable income. So one my first visit to my local GW store with it in my head that i was playing i basically bought the best part of 1500 points of necrons, paints, brushes and glues right off the bat. A pretty penny as you can imagine.

The "embarrassment" came when my wife came up to me a few days later with my bank statement and asked what the hell is Games Workshop and what on earth had i spent £250 on in one visit. You should have seen her face when i took her into what had become my modelling room and showed her what she called "a bunch of toy soldiers". Silent treatment for days...... it was bliss

That said £250 doesn't go as far as it used to in GW!

Been at the hoby for 10yrs now and no embarassments like what's in this thread. Some good stuff.

Closest I've had happen is at the 40k Irish Masters and charging 5 Necron Warriors with 5 Grey Knights, the Necrons winning the fight and running down the Grey Knights, turning my 17-3 win into a 12-8 win. Needless to say, my opponent who is a good friend hasn't let me live it down since

Most embarassing thing that has happend to me was in a 500pt game against IG my Tyranid Prime assaulted a PCS and first round took them down to 2 guards and the Lt and wiffed an armor save for 2 wounds left. Next round killed two more guardsman as my friend only failed two armor saves of 5 or better and I wiff another armor save. I roll for regeneration and get 1 wound back. Just me and the Lt left now.I asked my friend if he is ready to inform the Lts family. Roll for the hit and whiffed it with three 2's and a ! reroll for the 2x scything talons all hit. Roll for the wounds 3 wounds. My friend rolls triple 6's on his armor saves... Than proceeds to roll 2 hits and 2 wounds... I roll snake eyes on the armor saves. I have yet to live this down. As next time my friend came over he stole a warrior head from my bits box and now has it attached to with the LT holding it up as a trophy.

And that's why you don't mess with the imperial guard!

Of course, I've watched 3 plasma vets kill themselves to gets hot and neutering the squad many times, to the point where I don't expect any of them to live past turn 3

As for my most embarassing moment. Playing against nids (karma incoming!) and it's a real crazy back and forth game with the relic mission. Genestealers assault a battlewagon and it explodes, killing half the board (I use landraiders as my battlewagons.... a 6" explosion is huge) but his genestealers get away mostly intact. My warboss grabs a mob of slugga boyz and gives chase as my army kills off the last nids elsewhere. I charge into assault and challenge the broodlord, who's holding the relic, with my warboss. I think to myself, "awesome. He'll hit first, do a few wounds, but the warboss will live and fling him into the sun." We had never done a challenge before, and asked a vet for help reading the rules. The vet looks down at the challenge, asks the nid player "are you crazy? Oh wait, you've got that hypno thing don't you? Nice." I proceed to learn that broodlords can paralyze characters in challenge......

20 seconds later, I'm trying to figure out how a warboss just zones out as his mob gets swept around him, before he got swept in the advance. Won the nid player the game. God that was funny though. After the game, we redid the fight just to see how it would've gone down if he hadn't remembered the power. He knocked me down to one wound, before the warboss flattened him with 4 powerklaw wounds. I don't care if it was a phyrric victory, still counts!

I play Orks and I have a little 5 year old sister. Whenever I'm at my Mother's house to visit and she has company, she always tells everyone that I play "Dorks" out loud.

Well it didn't happen to me but the guy seemed pretty embarassed, What happened was he charged his 7 Terminators into 5 of my Greyhunters only to have him roll 8 ones costing him a whole unit of terminators My friend watching broke out laughing.
Not bad but emabarrasing when your deathstar unit dies to 90 pts of troops

Mine would be during a tournament I got the "pleasure " of watching two grown men get in a shoving match over if one assault marine died.

Several years ago (2009 or 8-ish, I think).

My brother was a worse sport than he is now. He yelled and pushed himself away from a table during a game against a beloved regular.

Me being his brother, I had to calm him down, shape up and tell him to apologize.

The scene really didn't look that brotherly at all but thank heavens he was redeemed

i once accidentally tugged my case over the top of a table and got the pleasure of watching all of my models go spilling across the hard concrete floor.

A lot of super glue was used that night.

Not that embarrassing but not to me ether.

The very first shot fired on turn one; my broadside shot down a monolith turn one.
He never fielded that monolith again

My most embarrassing is very similar, full squad of genestealers with broodlord assaulted a 7 man penal legionaires squad. I lost combat in the first round with out killing any of them, had a few guys left and the broodlord, who all decided to die because of being feerless. 2 years on, still being constantly reminded :(

Not really all that embarrassing but I often get really in to the game, especially when it comes to Grimaldus. Sometimes I'll just yell random imperial terms at my opponent while swinging an invisible crozius. Well I was playing in a new store when such an event happened. Now because the tables were in a back room I couldn't really see any customers and just let my vocals go to town.

5 minutes later the store owner came in and told me to quiet down. I went pretty red in the face.

i ride the city bus to get to the game store i usually play at. none of my stuff is in foam, just three GW boxes that the modesl came in. at least once a month, i get that curious person who needs to ask me "oooh. whats that?" and beyond that its always the same conversation:

"ooh, whats that? is that a puzzle?"
"its a game"
"what kind of game?"
"its like chess"
"what do you do with it?"
"...its a game"

"ooh, whats that?"
"its a model"
"what kind of model?" (in this case, tyranid tervigon bought just minutes before this)
without saying anything, i go to give her the open box with the sprue so she can have a better look.
"oh! you have to put it together." and doesnt take the box

i love feeling like i have special needs just because i play a game...
