This is a very original project.

The idea of a victorian necron army seemed like such a failed concept when I read the title of the thread but thus far I think your pulling it off well, or if not well then certainly unique in concept and design. That monolith is going to be a definate eye catcher in any game. Boy is this going to be a fun thread to continue to follow.

Thanks for the compliments, everyone! It's nice to get good feedback on this project!

Next up is a scratch-built Triarch Stalker. It's based off the same model that many people used to build their own before the official GW model came out. Here's a link to it: http://www.amazon.com/Spider-Robogear-Model-Easy-Assembly/dp/B000W8NT9O

When using this model, most seem to only keep the legs but I thought the actual cockpit itself would provide some much needed bulk to the model. What do you think so far?

Hey everyone,

Quick update: I've decided that my Flying Fortress needs something other than the necron side vents to keep it afloat, so what's more steampunky than a bunch of giant engine propellers? Well, a lot maybe. I thought that sails and whatnot would look REALLY steampunky but just couldn't seem to make it work with the giant hull. There's just no way that a Monolith-sized thing could hover with wind alone. Plus, I'd have to make the sails a few feet tall just to look proportionate.

So anyway, propellers it is. I think I'll attach one to each corner.

Finally, each corner will have a mounted gunner to represent the Guass guns.

Fantastic! You have achieved the impossible: to make Necrons interesting! Will follow.

We were once so close to heaven, St. Peter came out and gave us medals; declaring us "The nicest of the damned".

About the sails. Maybe you could make it a little like a ship, you already have the captains cabin it just needs a nose. You can put one-one propeller on the sides and sails in the front-middle.

Just my silly idea.

I wanted to come up with some inteligant thought or at least an interesting way to show my approval but all I can think about when looking that the latest monolith photo is, " I GOT A FLYING MACHINE!!"

Give that necron a monocle and two button vest and I think it will be complete.

Theres some really cool stuff on here, but theres something about the eyes that i dont like. Maybe rather then the red hole, some kind of grating? Just a suggestion.

I really like the current set-up of the Monolith. The only suggestions that I would make would be to have only a second of that large turbine opposite it, and towards the back, on or next to the top deck, as a second smaller set of turbines.

Lathor mentioned the nose, and I would agree. I think it needs a good figure head.

The look of it makes me think a lot of the flying ships in the final fantasy games... FF1-FF9 era. I'm not that well versed on the games after FF9.

Here's the other front turret. I think I'll go with your advice and only do two in the front, one in the back. I may even just make the back a horizontal propeller with a rudder underneath the cabin. Thoughts?

As someone building an army based around a mad scientist / evil genius, I think the idea of steampunk Necrons is brilliant.
Those prop's look perfect. I think the backwards pointing "thrust" prop and rudder idea is a good one.

Absolutely loving this, some great ideas coming through.

You may find the classic 2nd edition necrons are more suitable for steampunk, as they are a lot less clean looking, the scarabs look much more mechanical, the Immortals are just plain huge (and tend to fall over) and the destroyers are just normal necrons strapped into a wierd jetbike like contraption.

Reading what you were saying about sails, the ghost ark would probably look awesome as an airship, Kinda like Captain Shakespears ship in Stardust, and what could be more steampunk than a flying ship that catches lightning?

I was going to say something about how awesome this is, but the these chaps say it better than I:

Well, it's getting closer and closer to completion! Here's the Eternity Gate complete with a Warrior emerging from within. I thought the heavy chain would make it seem more mechanical (in an old, clunky way). Also, the top of the cabin is nearing completion as well.

What do you all think?

I love the look of this thing!

Also, are those legos I see at the helm?

If I ever get money to start a necron army, I think I'm going to be stealing a lot (if not all) of these ideas.

All looks good, very nice.
I like all the pipes and cables all over the place.
One thing I will say; The chain is good, but the door could look heavier somehow (thicker or bulkier) to warrent the use of such substantial chains.

Dr. H- you're definitely right about the gate needing to be beefed up.... Unfortunately, I already threw a base coat on it! Thanks for the suggestion, though.

For the time being, yes, I live in Columbus. I may be leaving soon for a job, though.

I normally play Monday nights at The Guardtower. I'd love to meet a fellow Dakka though!

ok, but did you ever play a guy with a TS army with a defiler? I was barely there that night, I walked in, chatted with a guy with an ork army about good starter armies then bought a chaos LR. anyways it's a small net after all.
