Gitkikka: That would be a good choice, but the priest is such a lousy HQ choice that it would probably be one of the last things done, and even then just for show.
Unless the next Codex adds a serious capability boost, like Army-wide FnP or reroll ones to hit (my plasma guys always torch themselves when i double-tap plasma).

Actually, the Katana was NOT a 2 handed weapon. It was a standard sized blade with a hand-and-half grip so that it could be wielded either single handed or two handed. Yes, most drills used the two handed technique but their were many drills for single handed use as well, making them a very versatile weapon, especially if wielded in conjuction with a second one.

Do your own research mate.

Yeah, don't mean to troll you but I find your toy soldiers offensive because they don't comport with my erroneous understanding. Seems legit.

To OP:
Nice idea. You have obviously put some work into a creative concept. Good job! Need some vehicles with dragons or scorpions or tigers on them!

Thanks Dakarillion and JMurph. Little by little its coming together better than I imagined.
For Mr. Morden, I do have the genesis of a back story, the typical cluster of systems that maintained a specific culture and technology level brought back into the fold of humanity sort of thing. Once it gets fleshed out I'll post a short story.
For now, I finished the first Squad of a Platoon. Less ornate armor, no banners (except the Platoon Sgt), and bare heads as befitting their lower status.

Agreed - Katana's can be wielded in one hand or two - we are learning to do both in our classes

Yeah, I am trying to go for a silk like look to the cloth, but also am using the different colors to help distinguish the different squads.
I quite haven't brought myself to the point where I would do yellow...although if I toned it down with a woodstain it may just work. Something to experiment with.
Once I'm done with the second Platoon squad and a corresponding PCS (Platoon Commander & 4 flamers) I'll work on a base CCS...Commander and 4 Lasgun Vets. Any thoughts on a color of cloth for the CCS?

Sword length determines how one should handle a sword. A Zanba can't be wielded one handed and a wakizashi wielded two handed is just a waste of strength and reach. Different styles for different guys.

Musashi Miyamoto wielded katanas one handed, not regular katanas but "long sword". To insult purists more, he wielded two at once.
Niten Ichiryu Tenka Musou. its what they would call Teni Muhou.

It would be great if the Mon were placed with their corresponding equivalents. The Takeda were best known for their cavalry charges and the Sanada were epic spear men. Maybe placing either the Saika or the Akechi for your shooting heavy squads and the Toyotomi/Hashiba or the Tokugawa for the artillery. Hojo would be ninjas so Scouts?

Leman Russ? Shimazu of course.

I think these look great. It would be a pleasure facing an army like this even if I got trounced.

I've always liked armies better that have forethought put into them. Anyone can just buy models and put them together.

Thanks all. Once I get the core army finished I have plans for an Ogryn unit along with some Samurai based Riders.
Kell, this link has the WIP for this project as I moved from GKs, to Codex Marines, then shifted to Guard. IG tanks are on pg2, though I'm not entirely satisfied with an all red hull.
Eventually the IG tanks will get the same Kanji style that the Marine tanks got.

Lost a week or so recovering from some minor surgery (hernia), but was able to get going again a few days ago. Finished up the second squad of the platoon, have the CCS and PCS about halfway done, and base coated 2 Hellhounds.
Here are both platoon squads together. I may add specific squad marks to their shoulder pads later...something as simple as Kanji numbers for a Platoon mark on one shoulder and a squad mark on the other (1 and 1= 1st Platoon, 1st Squad...etc).
(EDIT) If I were thinking ahead I could have matched out the heads, with 1 squad having the red headband and the other squad being bare headed...but the numbers don't match (11 headbands, 7 bareheads, 2 Sgts. Perhaps when I'm done with the PCS/CCS and nhave some spare time I will put together 2 more bareheaded guys just to make that happen. Cest la Vie.)
Anyways, heres the 20 guys together. No special weapons, just 18 Lasguns and 2 Sgts.

Yeah!!!! Finished off the CCS and PCS completing the core of all the Infantry. For the commanders I wanted to make them stand out a bit from the SGTs, so i cut down the Cadian shoulderpads and added Samurai shoulder armor to the CC and PC. I also gave the Company Commander a bionic arm and cut the sword down to make it more like an ancient Chokuto (straight sword).
I really messed up the eyes on these guys, so I will have to redo them at some point.
The Platoon Command Squad with 4 Flamers. I went with the C:SM/Catachan style flamers to keep the Cadian back-tanks from interfearing with the Sashimono banners.

And the Company Command Squad.

So now its on to the vehicles. These days no Army seems to be complete without a Flyer or twelve...so, the Vendetta.
A standard build with minor modifications. The side pods were trimmed up with a Lascannon added to each side. The wing mount Lascannons are a set of T/L Lascannons from a Land Raider. Magnets hold them in place for easy removal on weapon destroyed hits.
The decals/markings (except the Kanji on the nose, which is a home made decal) are a set of aftermarket 1/48 decals for the A6M2 'Zero' fighter.
The specific markings are for Pilot Shigeru Itaya, who flew his plane from the carrier Akagi on 7 Dec 1941.

Finished up some more vehicles and an upgrade: Knight Commander Pask.
So here is my Pask sitting in a Russ. I gave him blue eyes just as a lark. Excuse the tank he's in. It was a rescue that is table top ready but still needs a fair amount of work.

And finished 3 Chimeras. I decided to give the vehicles a Torii symbol (the Japanese gate) as the armored sections designation (the Nobori banners marking each individual vehicle). The centered Kanji is roughly "Large Guns" while the Kanji towars the rear is the vehicle number (103 in this case).

Yes, I painted every individual rivet and while its hard to tell in the photo, the road wheel mounts are boltgun with a black wash.
Next up are 2 Hellhounds and a Medusa/Colossus. Then on to the Tanks.

Pretty cool army I must say, tbh the slight size difference between parts doenst look all that bad (if there is any)

Also you have an army focused on Ashigaru and no Oda banners? FOR SHAME!

Heh the chimera reminds me of the StuG in Girls Un Panzer

I hope in the next Codex Pask becomes an HQ (Heavy support scoring) and grants Skyfire to the tank he is in (in addition to the BS4 bonus and +1 strength on shots when stationary). I've been toying with putting Pask in a Punisher...20 S5 AP- and 9 S5 AP4 shots at BS4, which all become S6 shots against vehicles. Probably wont even need Skyfire with that number of shots...but more expensive than an Executioner Plasma tank.
(EDIT) I've been a little iffy on all red tanks...kinda bright and all. But as they become more comlete i'm happier with them. Fluff-wise I can always claim this army specializes in fighting Zenos (Tau or Eldar or even Hrud...LOL) that cant see in the lower red spectrum. To them my tanks would look black.

Kenshin: Yeah, Oda clan markings. I've already got those set up for a Space Marine Tac Squad and Captain for use as an ally and the start of bringing this theme into other Imperial Armies.
Those white symbold really stand out on the red tank. Kinda hard to make though. Cest la vie.

Great work - very cool army.

I think that you have it right with the Samurai equivalent being the Astartes

Not sure why pask would grant skyfire - isn;t he a tank hunter?

Thanks Mr Morden. This project actually started as a GK army, then shifted to regular Space Marines, and finally morphed into rebuilding my entire IG army.
...I've recently had strange thoughts of doing a small Tau force (a suited HQ, some Firewarriors, and a couple of broadsides and/or crisis suits) done in the same theme as another ally for larger points games...

Not sure why pask would grant skyfire - isn;t he a tank hunter?

True that, but that was also before the Flyer category and the Skyfire USR were created. Since Pask's fluff is knowing everything about any variant of the Leman Russ and how to use them, it could be argued that would extend to shooting at aircraft (within rules limits...no templates so no plasma or ordnance blasts).
My caveat on that being ONLY his tank gets Skyfire...not every tank.

These are really good. A bit of extra definition would help though.

Mix a bit of black paint with water (~75% water) and run a thin line along recesses in the model like folds in cloth or plate overlaps. It is really simple to do and adds a lot of depth to the model. I'd avoid doing this to any spot surrounded by bright colors (yellow/white/pink/flesh) and just use a darker / more drab version of the color for the wash (yellow-brown/grey/maroon/red-brown). If you use a finish-coat on your models (spray matte finish/ 'Ard Coat/ PVA glue) it really makes the wash show up.
