Subject: The Milk Tray Lid of WIP Shame - Updated 19/06 - WIP Stone Keeper, completed pIrusk
Well, I tried to highlight the stone on the Stone Keeper - I'm reasonably happy with the outcome, but I'll be interested in hearing feedback if anyone has any. I've also filled some of the runes in the stonework with Wurm Green - I did find that a lot of the runes on the armour on the front of the Keeper we're terribly well defined, hence why there wasn't so much of the bright green on the front...
eBaldur has also had his runes lined with Wurm Green - I don't think I've done anything else on him yet.
Next steps for the two is to try the method detailed in Domination to paint the gems of the two of them. I also need to add the green within the metal armour on eBaldur, so I'll probably handle that at the same time.
In other news, I played my first game of Blood Bowl for a couple of years yesterday - faced a Dark Elf team for what I think was the first time. I was playing a fresh-off-the-bus Dwarf team, while the D.Elves had a few games under their belt.
It was a massacre...
You can tell when a game is going your way when you cause a casualty with your first block of the game - even more so when you force the opponent's apothecary to be used in the first half to save a player.
My opponent was a bit unlucky - he had two critical rolls fail that might have kept him in the game. One flubbed pass in the first half after I scored, which allowed me to recover and protect the ball, and go in at half-time with the score 1-0. I think there were two D.Elf casualties and we both had a player knocked out, both of whom recovered.
I kicked off for the second half, with a nice kick deep into the corner. The Dwarves brought the pain, the Elves gathered the ball with a player behind my lines and went for a running/passing play to even the score - only for a 1 to crop up on the Go For It required on the last move before the pass, with no team re-rolls available.
Again, I capitalise - the player who was set up to score went crowd-surfing, one Runner retrieved the ball and passed back to the other to render it safe in my backfield, and we pressed forwards again. Much violence later (with the D.Elves having 4 Cas & 3 K.Os, but no-one out for the Dwarves) I manage to score the second touchdown.
I get the impression the D.Elf fans weren't impressed by this, as there was a one turn Riot, leaving just one turn each on the clock - and even D.Elves aren't fast enough to one-turn score.
End result? 2-0 to the Runic Wonders, 4-0 on Casualties, one shell-shocked opponent.
What I do find amusing is that the three people from the league who were watching the game are now scared of facing my team after just one game - and I am looking forwards to beating the heck out of some Pro Elves.
In celebration, I've ordered the Dwarf Fantasy Football team from Black Scorpion Miniatures (randomly the full team is off their website now, but the lineman add-on pack for a full roster is still up). I'd seen the models at Triples, and I really like the sculpts - and at £2/model for single piece resin, they're at a pretty good price point. I may well do a review of the team when they arrive, but we'll see.
I am working on some background for the team & stadium, as the guy running the league really enjoys writing up game reports in the style of the commentators in the BB rulebooks, so giving him some material to work with is going to be useful. Would anyone be interested in seeing what I've written once I've sent it over to him?

Well, since you asked - some background for my Dwarf team, the Runic Wonders...
Spoiler:
Runic Wonders

Head coach: Kadrin Ironboot
Team PR agent: Egill Skallagrimsson
Team motto: T'dr'duzk b'hazg t't!
Translation: Today Is A Good Day For Someone Else To Die!

The Stadium of Wonders is based in the foothills to the south of Karak Hirn. King Alrik has seen the potential for a Blood Bowl franchise to increase the trade between his clan and towns within the Empire, Tilea and the Border Princes - advertising on pitchside hoardings at home games will appear in the ESPN broadcasts.
When contacted, Bugman's Brewery was happy to sponsor the match balls and uniforms for the team, in exchange for exclusive rights to distribute alcohol at the ground. This has suited King Alrik perfectly, as he has been able to apply a tithe and use it to pay for the maintenance and upkeep of the stadium.
Following the failure of their experimental Dungeonbowl arena, and the subsequent loss of their own team the Engineers, the local Guild of Engineers have spared no expense when it comes to the construction and equipping of the ground. Their finest stonemasons were heavily involved on designing the imposing exterior façade, replete with numerous carvings intended to invoke the favours of Grimnir, Grungni and Valaya.
Inside the ground is no less ambitious, with re-purposed Organ Guns deployed to fire team-themed smoke into the air as the teams emerge from their changing rooms - and occasionally to break up rioting fans. Following discussions with league officials while building the stadium, the Guild has constructed an astrogranite play surface - a strategic decision which seems to play to the Wonders' strengths of applying significant amounts of violence to any given situation.
While the Runic Wonders are new to the RIB, the franchise had been running for years near Karak Azul. As part of the deal to move the team to Karak Hirn, King Alrik has agreed to maintain the team's traditional blue uniform. The other fixture that came with the franchise was the Wonders' head coach, Kadrin Ironboot, and despite needing to start with a new squad for the new league, rumours indicate that he will continue to work to his previously established tactical strengths.
I picked up my Black Scorpion Dwarf team from the Post Office today - didn't realise until I was checking that all the models were in the box that the not-Trollslayers in the team are too manly to wear the team uniform in such a violent game. I'll be doing a review of the team on my blog in the not-too-distant future.
Anyway, time for some painting...
Completed Circle - Unit Attachment - Stone Keeper
Getting the chest gem done finished him off, and I'm pretty hapy with him.
WIP Mercenaries - Captain Damiano
The gold areas of his armour were picked out with Chainmail, and have had their first Sepia wash.
Circle Orboros - Baldur the Stonesoul
Got the gems out of the way on eBaldur, basecoated his over-robe with Gun Corps Brown and washed it with Devlan Mud - I'll highlight his robe with Beast Hide, and then take a view as to what else I need to do to him.
Oh yeah, and I painted his hair & beard with VMC German Grey
Khador - Marauder
This is a very early WIP - basecoated the areas that will be gold on the 'jack with Chainmail. I'd like to take this through to finished before the start of July, but we'll se how we get on.

Subject: The Milk Tray Lid of WIP Shame - Updated 25/06 - PP WIPs, Stone Keeper, Blood Bowl background
Time for some updated WIPs - with one day of June to go, I figure I have a shot at finishing the Marauder and Strakhov, but probably not Damiano in time for the end of this month in A Tale of WMH.
Warjack - Khador - Marauder
Warcaster - Khador - Kommander Strakhov
Warcaster - Mercenaries - Captain Damiano
Baldur the Stonesoul, on the other hand, can now join the ranks of the completed for this year, taking me to 32 points and 5 war[caster/lock]s, which ain't bad going so far.
I also thought I'd dig out the model I like to use as head couch for my Blood Bowl team and do a spot of work on him. Bar a little tidying up on the shield, and the addition of some static grass, I think the base is finished - can you tell what it is yet?

A couple more completions since I was last in here...
Warcaster - Kommander Strakhov
Warjack - Marauder
Warcaster - General Ossrum
I've also done the basic skin work on my Druid Wilder, Druid Gone Wilder, Lord Rockbottom, Major Haley and Arlan Strangeways. This evening, I've also started to work on the leather on Arlan, with the aim of finishing him in September.
Tomorrow may see the start of construction of a big friend for Arlan, depending on how I feel - that, or I'll be working on a bunch of little guys to get some stuff off my plate.

Subject: The Milk Tray Lid of WIP Shame - Updated 31/08 - Two Warcasters and a Warjack
So, some new WIPs to go with the completions I posted yesterday - I've found myself doing bits on the first two of these guys last night and this morning. Bits can be summed up as basecoating and washing the leather, adding the red handle to one of the tools, then basecoating the metal on both. I've also hit Rockbottom's trousers with Greatcoat Grey, and his shoe with Coal Black.
Captain Arlan Strangeways
Lord Rockbottom
I haven't done any additional work on this next character yet, but I'd like to get him done this month as well.

Subject: The Milk Tray Lid of WIP Shame - Updated 01/09 - New PP WIPs
Got a fair amount more work done on my three initial WIPs yesterday, so here are some updated pictures...
Arlan had the least done to him yesterday - merely a Nuln Oil wash over the steel areas. I think I then spent most of the rest of the day deliberating between basecoating his blue armour, or starting on the gold. I think it'll be the blue, but we'll see.
Bart had quite a bit done - basecoated the rest of his steel sections with Boltgun Metal, basecoated hat/coat/trousers with Gnarls Green, basecoated beard/hair with Bloodstone, basecoated feather with Jack Bone, washed leathers/beard/hair/feather with Devlan Mud. Next step is a Nuln Oil wash on the steel sections, then starting on the gold areas.
Lord Rockbottom also saw his hat and coat basecoated with Gnarls Green, while his shirt/waistcoat was basecoated with Frostbite. I picked out the leather on his sword grip with Bootstrap Leather, and washed his peg leg with Devlan Mud. I suspect gold may be the next step here, as well.

Subject: The Milk Tray Lid of WIP Shame - Updated 02/09 - Updated PP WIPs
Since my last post, I've basecoated Arlan's armour with Cygnar Blue Base, and his pipe with Jack Bone. Bart has had his gold done, and I've continued to work on establishing which bits of him will end up being green - though I still need to settle on a colour for his coat lining & trim. Lord Rockbottom has also had his golds done (apart from the pendant around his neck, which I missed), as well as his shirt, cravat and medal ribbon.
I've also prepped & based a Gun Mage Captain Adept, a Trencher Master Gunner, 2 Trencher Rifle Grenade Porters, Trencher Officer & Sharpshooter, my second Mangler (for unpainted & second hand for £8) and the Long Gunner UA. Oh, and Maxwell Finn. Everyone apart from the Long Gunner UA and Finnshould be undercoated this evening as well.

Subject: The Milk Tray Lid of WIP Shame - Updated 14/09 - WIP Gun Mage Captain Adept (Fort Falk)
Well, the Gun Mage Captain Adept is nearly complete - I just need to wash the leather, and recover the grey of his coat from the shading wash I applied. Oh, and use Umbral Umber on the lower part of his boots.
The Mangler has had the steel painted Boltgun Metal, washed with Nuln Oil, while the brighter silver areas are Chainmail, awaiting their first wash of Seraphim Sepia.
Arlan has had his armour basecoated with Cygnar Blue Base, while the gold area were cover with my usual Chainmail/Sepia technique. I think I'll be working on the blue of his armour next.
Bart has had the lining and trim of his coat basecoated with Menoth White Base - though I appear to have forgotten to do the trim on his hat. Need to shade the trim and the green of the coat itself, then I should be able to call him done.
Lord Rockbottom has also had his trim (and sock) basecoated with Menoth White Base, and the ribbon and shirt washed again with Asurmen Blue wash.

These guys are now finished for a Tale of WMH over at the PP forums:
Warcaster - Broadsides Bart
Solo - Lord Rockbottom[b] - 2 points
[b]Solo - Gun Mage Captain Adept - 2 points
The Mangler, Arlan Strangeways and Dirty Meg are still WIP.
I've made a couple of acquisitions for my Space Wolves as well - an Iron Priest and a metal Logan Grimnir. Anyone know what the wolf skull is for? There doesn't seem to be a place for it.
weety has just painted a FW Event Only Warrior Priest for me, and should be doing a Commissar and FW Event Only Death Korps Quartermaster as well, once I get the bases sorted.
Sorting stuff into better boxes has meant I've found my Dwarf army, as well as an OK Ninja Maneater. Having picked up some poly cement, I've assembled the track units for a FW Thunderer, which should make a nice change.

Put together and painted two bases for the other two models weety will be painting for me:
If anyone is interested, I might put together a blog post on creating & painting such bases.
I've also finished the Mangler heavy warjack I was working on - 8 points completed for A Tale of WMH in October:
Dirty Meg has had a lot of work done (no, not like that...) and is not far off being finished now - with a bit of luck, I might get her done tomorrow:
Arlan is more of a slow-burner - got all his dials done whilst working on finishing off the Mangler. Still need to do the highlight work on his armour, as well as some fiddly detail bits.

Dirty Meg is now finished, though I haven't gotten photos taken yet - hoping to get to that tomorrow.
I've dug Ashlynn out of the Lid of Shame, and her blonde hair is now complete - just some detailing to do, and she'll be done too. Again, update pics tomorrow. No further progress on Arlan yet, unfortunately.
I've made a start on the blog post about the bases, which has also meant stripping the paint from a six man unit if Kasrkin to use in the step-by-step - I'm hoping to get more work done on that this week.
Having found the box with most of my Dwarf army in under my bed, I've sorted through that this evening - eighteen Ironbreakers (inc. Command) and a Dwarf Lord are now in the paint stripper. I also found Burlok Damminson (the Guildmaster with the B.I.O.N.I.C arm) in my WHFB bits box, and if I can straighten his banner pole out, he'll go onto the paint list.
Finally, I'm plotting a multi-system painting challenge to run on here, and I'll be doing a test run to iron out some of the kinks with the DCMs - it could make for an interesting (or at least productive) 2014.
As noted above, I should be back with a more visually interesting update tomorrow.

So I've been doing some more work on PP stuff, and have some new/updated WIPs to show off.
Farrow Slaughterhousers
Progress over the last week has been on the weapons of the unit leader and the two guys holding their cleavers vertically, as well as drybushing the chainmail on all of them.
Trencher Solos
Trencher UA & 2 WAs
I'm working on these two groups as a block, but they're still fairly early on. I'm trying to avoid the overly brassy look the PP Studio scheme has. I may also dial back the leather on their coats so that the rucksacks and satchels don't stand out so much.
I'm currently hoping to get the Slaughterhousers finished by the end of Thursday, which'll cross another item off the Milk Tray list.

Thanks Ruglud - I figured most of these were reasonably mainstream, but that does assume everyone has some familiarity with the PP lines. Methinks I should stop assuming.
I wonder what people will think when I bust out some even odder lines in the future.
They say pictures speak louder than words, so here are some of both...
Ironbreakers & Dwarf Lord
Bases painted with Battlefield Brown, and models wetbrushed with Boltgun Metal.
Wolf Scouts
Bloody Bradigan
Need to figure out what contrast colour to use on the trousers (possibly Exile Blue), then wash them with Devlan Mud.
Captain Damiano
Picking this guy back up again - need to pick out the 'tache, and work on leathers, etc.
Trencher UA & WA
Leathers need a second coat of Bootstrap Leather, then the browns can get hit with Devlan Mud. Once that's done, there are some buckles which need picking out with Boltgun, then the metals can be washed with Nuln Oil.
