as for the plastic it's self.....gond damn did I have to be careful cutting the parts out ;-; it all fits together like a dream but damn, one wrong move and one of my assassins would have lost a hand >.>

Yup, I believe Nix (who has posted in these threads a few times) accidentally cut the foot off of his Santana Ortega model.

Just remember, they use rounded sprues, if it ain't round, it ain't sprue.

Malifaux has plenty of people in it... this is how I know you don't read anything related to the game

Maybe it would help if they printed some background on the box.

I meant before they broke open the breach the first time 100 years before the second time, 110 years (?) before the "present". According to the background on their website--the website you directed me to a month ago for background, when the first magicians opened the breach, they found a dead city with the signs of a struggle, but no bodies anywhere.

I guess your response means this part of the background has been explained? I'm still reading the info in bits and snippets. It's just too bad I wasn't able to get some kind of nice background books to read, or I would be more up to date.

It hasn't been explained. It's just that the city is being recolonized despite the risks. The Guild needs more stones after all.

The city has people as Breotan explained, the city doesn't have much in the way of fluff about the city and population, like you might find in an RPG book (so Through the Breach should scratch that itch), but the stories contained in the rulebooks do give insight to the city of Malifaux. I know pullmyfinger is a great source for the game, but I wish there was a Malifaux Fluff Wiki, kind of like Lexicanum for 40k. Just looking at the map of the city shows there is "some" life amongst the city.

Much of the city is quarantined because of the undead and death that roams through those parts of the cities, held at bay by the Guild, but there are some hubs of activity, and unlike GW, this map can and will change because the storyline advances with each book.

So if you want micro-background (small scope) pick up Malifaux books 1 and 2 (Malifaux: A Character Driven Skirmish Game, and Rising Powers). That should help you out in regards to some fluff, but at the same time it's hard to justify buying the book if you only want it for the fluff, since the model rules are in the books as well as the fluff.

And since they publish some of the cards online, I assume some of the stats in the books are not accurate anymore? I guess it's going to be Through the Breah, like you said.

I just hope Malifaux will eventually incorporate a way to make use of the multi-part character sprues. Making a custom Master, maybe.

The V2 Statcards online are the most up to date when compared to the stats in the book they came from. When you buy a model if it doesn't come with a v2 stat card (book 1 and some book 2 stuff) then email wyrd and they ship you new ones free of charge. The things in book 3 and book 4 are the most up to date though, so there isn't a need for online state cards.

I don't see them incorporating the multi-pose mini sprues in the game as Masters for official tournament reasons, BUT with Through the Breach, there is the disposition system which allows you to convert your characters in the game to the skirmish game as a way to run battles. So in official settings, probably not... in friendly games, you could probably get away with it

I'm not one for much competition, so it would be casual play.

It reminds me of the way you could translate your Mutant Chronicles hero into a Warzone fig for games... I'd love to see that.

I'm looking for a good alternative to Grimdark RPGs, so I do hope Through the Breach makes its way to my bookshelf sometime in 2013.

just built the misaki starter set and god damn those models are fiddly :'3 really nice to work with but you do have to be really careful with how you clip them off, I know I had a few tense moments when it came to removing the female torakage from the sprue >.>

while I still really like these plastics I hope they make them a little more solid as right now I get the feeling that one lax moment and a dull knife may spell the end for what would otherwise be a fantastic model :'3

Oh noes... you have to focus and pay attention while assembling them!

I kid. I enjoy the fact that they are more delicate once they are painted. They look different, mcuh taller than GW minis, for instance.

And even then you can really screw some of them up. The Ten Thunders Archers were a pita to get the heads/hats done right.

yeah, just got those today ;-;

my first reaction really was "feth me thats a stupid place to cast an arrow"

as for paying attention, it's a lot more than that. the chain on my 'sins weapon is so freakin thin and they decided to connect the sprue to it in THE most stupid place >.>

so far ototo and shang the only model's I where haven't been on the edge of my seat >.>

still, can't grumble about the fantastic quality :'3

Assembled my Relic Hinters box the other day. I'm happy to report that it went together VERY well and without incident. I nearly shat myself when there was an extra arm on the sprue until I realizes it was in fact an actually extra option for Lucas.

I really ove the new plastics.

It is kinda tricky to put the models together if you have big hands like me, I even had to ask my wife to put some parts together because I just couldn't reach the place were some stuff belonged

I bought und put together:

Oiran box
TT Starter box
Railcrew Starter
Guild Rifleman
TT Archers

Nothing broke and everything fitted fine.
Thats something that I noticed by putting it togheter, even the smalles part or arms or whatever fits right on the spot. I've had other miniatures from other brands (GW) were I had to pin/filled/sculpt to have a decent fit

The only things were I thought I would have some trouble is, as with a Oiran figure, is that sometimes you only you only have some toes to put on the base, nothing more.
Those toes are even to small to do some pinning.
But I put the miniatures on a kind of plastic slates and it bonded fine.

Now about the details of the plastics, I'm not a painter who puts his miniatures in glass cabins to show or make close up pictures, I mainly paint for gaming but I find that on some models, like the TT Archers, the faces are not very detailed, so for some people who do paint for showing these plastic models arent really suitable (IMHO)....

But overal I like the plastic models

I'll second the bit about the faces. The guild riflemen had a shortcut right there and detail was minimal, but it encourages the painter to keep that area darker, as befits the feel of the faction.

Izamu has an optional face that is proportioned very well. Not too deep grooves, it makes it more realistic. But on a bigger model, it is a bit easier, I would assume.
