I loved the World Eaters, and have a sizeable Pre-Heresy army fielded on many occasions .. Have to be honest it's a bit of a nudge for me to stay with my Great Crusade-era stuff. Specifically, I think they are ruined by the almost comical heads, which are far too OOT in my estimation. I can see too much of the 'MEGA RAARRHGGHHG DESTROY - KABOOM!! 11/10' of the new GW plastic Chaos model kits. If I were to use them, the heads would definitely go - think these would look far better even with a standard mk4 (or beakie?) helm.

The bits of chain and customised shoulder pads are a nice, but I wish they had stayed with the more understated, less toy-like aesthetic that most of the HH miniatures have followed so far.

Not a great fan of these, really...

The paintjob really doesn't help, it's a terrible standard to be publishing on the internet on one's store-front.

I like the head sculpts except they're too big.

As for the painting, they're done better than the Emperor's Children. The whole Heresy line thus far has been shown with mediocre painting and poor photography which is a shame.

I quite like these but this thread has pissed me off because of the news that Black Fire Pass has been delayed AGAIN. I'm almost wondering whether there was any point in the big fuss made about Warhammer Forge becoming a separate entity when it's blatantly clear that their resources get constantly bled off by Forgeworld!

Probably the first heresy release I'm not impressed with, those heads seem to have the derpy faces many third party replacement heads seem to have. At least they do seem to be covering pretty much every unit in the book gradually rather than just expecting conversions from the base units.

I think the idea is good but it hasn't been executed to the level it could have been. Just take a look at the FW world eater upgrades from the 40k range, zhufor too, and check how much better those heads are.

If anybody who plays the era in the UK wants to come to our pre-heresy event based upon the Ullanor crusade, check our dakka thread.... http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/440020.page

I think the redeeming features, such as the runner and the icons can be achieved by conversions with a bit more dynamism too!

It looks like FW hired Gary Morley to sculpt the heads. Absolutely terrible.

It's not the heads that get me, although they do bother me a bit. It's the paintjobs - they look like they were done with drybrushing and a quick and dirty technique, certainly not what I'd expect from professionals.

Now, in the defense of FW, didn't they say earlier with another release that was heavily criticized for it's paintjob, that they were doing a more 'realistic' paintjob that would make new painters feel like they could actually achieve that paint level? Something about 30k armies being huge and not every model is meant to be a showcase piece?

It's still better than anything I can paint, and I've been doing this for five years! Anyway, if they're selling models, shouldn't they get the best painters possible to do them?

As the are showcasing units I'd say show most as they do above, paint that many can aspire to

but also show one 'in the hands of an expert' with a top line paintjob

I'll go along with this.

Have a stand out paint job on some then a table top finish for group shots. Or something like it.

*New Forgeworld Apocalypse book set for release in June/ July
*Contents Include
-Rules for 6th edition including new point costs
-New formations including flying squadrons
-New Asset Card
-New Scenarios
-Battle Reports

and more...

Almost more interesting than the rumor is that maybe Natfka will start labelling his sources with unique pseudonyms.

I have noticed this too, especially in the last year, the standard of paint jobs on the FW website has dropped.

I think its started actually with the Angron release, i always felt that it could have been better, dont know why.

Maybe this is part of the GW ethos that new starts will feel intimidated, but i never felt that when i was getting into the hobby and the eavy metal team at that time included Mike McVey so the stuff was top notch, what it did do was make me want to be a better painter to emulate that.

I have over many years got to a level where i have now been a GD finalist, so saying that kids will feel intimidated is a bit silly of GW, especially as this is like FW's storefront so i would expect the best paint jobs.

Still doesnt put me off wanting the Death Guard catephracti.

Sub par painting on GW stuff I could understand to some degree. FW though is purely for dedicated hobbyists (or rich parents I guess) so in that case they should have a pro paintjob to match. In the case of the World Eaters however, I don't think any paintjob is going to redeem them imho.

Oh man, I'm really crossing my fingers for a Necron version of IA8 - this is very exciting.

As far as the last release, those Khorne Rampagers look uncannily like Fat Bastard from the Austin Powers movies.

Personally?

I was kind of let down by IA8. It was slated to be a two-parter, then was stripped back to a one-parter so they could do the Badab War as a two-parter instead.
I hope they don't do this as IA8. I want to see Imperial Armours 12 through 14 being focused upon this sector like they have been touting, dagnabbit!

Well, the reason I'd prefer a single volume is several - first, at $81ish a volume, I'd prefer to buy one instead of two to have a complete story. Second, I don't know how possible it is to keep a compelling narrative going for 3 books, especially when the delay between them is fairly long. I barely ever play, I get them for the story. Finally, I think that there is a lot of under-representation done for Xenos, and would prefer to try and alternate them up every book - I'd prefer never to see an Imperial vs Imperial book - judging by the reaction the HH stuff has gotten, I think I'm strongly in the minority on that, though.

But I'd love to see, like, Tallarn vs Dark Eldar, or Sisters vs Tau, stuff like that.

See, I didn't mind the narrative style. I thought it was kind of different and cool.

What really bugged me was that such a huge emphasis was placed upon how important the raid was--and then it just stops. The ending felt rushed, like they realized that they were not going to get to do the second part and had to cram it in there.

IA 3 was (imo) pretty damned good for a one-parter and it's what convinced me that the Badab War books were worth the coin. If they did something like that, it wouldn't be so bad. But if they have the material (and products) for a multi-book storyline then they should certainly do that.

Whether it's a 1-and-done book or a 3 part series like Vraks, I'll buy it. Hopefully, Xenos will get some Badab War sized love with this one.

Hi there,
In this week’s newsletter, the proud Emperor’s Children Legion have a new Contemptor Dreadnought available to pre-order, and we’ve also got a tantalising hint about something very exciting on the ‘event’ horizon...

Emperor’s Children Legion Contemptor Dreadnought

Regarded as the most advanced and powerful pattern of Dreadnought fielded by the Legiones Astartes during the Great Crusade, the Contemptor draws not only upon technologies found in the more common MkIV and MkV designs, but also arcane systems taken from the ancient and shrouded lore of the Legio Cybernetica.

The significant advantages in speed and durability granted to the Contemptor over older Dreadnought patterns are not without cost, however, as it requires higher levels of maintenance than other designs. This has not prevented it from finding a place amongst all the Space Marine Legions though and demand for the new chassis is incredibly high.

Designed by Simon Egan and Will Hayes, the Emperor’s Children Legion Contemptor Dreadnought is packed with details themed specifically to this honoured Legion, such as the Palatine Aquila proudly borne upon the sarcophagus of the Dreadnought, and the unique ‘Phoenician’ pattern helm granted as a mark of valour among the Emperor’s Children.

A fantastic centrepiece for both Heresy-era Legion forces and 41st Millennium Chaos Space Marine armies, the Emperor’s Children Legion Contemptor Dreadnought is available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday 1st March.

Best one yet .

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!
