Lol, I was just saying my opinion.

Me personally, I feel the most important things about games is the story, the main quest, the reason what you are doing. So games like Skyrrim and Battlefield suffer. I still love the Battlefield series but I feel like they are all missing a huge section of game without a main story.

Thats just my opinion though

I agree with a good deal of the games listed, at least the ones I have played. Adding more:

Xcom UFO Defense
Xcom Apoc
Baldur's Gate 2
Final Fantasy Tactics
Shadowrun (snes, never played the genesis one)
Kid Chameleon
Altered Beast..hmm wait...

Now that I think about it though, much of what I liked on late NES and early SNES era may not have been the best (being in the single digit age still).

A game only needs a story/MQ if it is story/MQ driven. None of the TES or Fallout 3 are oriented heavily around the MQ.

Concerning Skyrim:
1) Better main quest than Oblivion and many other recent big name RPGs (DA:O, DA2, and ME2 come to mind. I don't think ME1 had a particularly good main story for the most part either). Honestly, did anyone particularly enjoy the Oblivion MQ?
2) Good faction quests aside from the Stormcloak/Imperial Legion.
3) Good Daedric quests, especially Molag Bal, Sheogorath, Sanquinis, and Namira (if only because the Namira questline was the first time I've actually been creeped out by a video game in a while).
4) Some very fun miscellaneous quests.

Even if this was true it doesn't redeem the extremely boring gameplay.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

Most of those titles were game-changers of their time, nearly all raised the bar and all are still great to play years later.

I did put my favourite games on the list (apart from Max Payne 2 and Halo 2). However all of the PC strategy games were ones i didnt play but know are the best. I used to enjoy watching my friend play them though.

That's your opinion. An opinion that is not exactly widespread. Unoriginal or bland would be a better way to describe it.

Leveling as a Retribution Paladin in WoW was an example of extremely boring gameplay with minimal player interface interaction.

Considering that 95% game revolves around combat, in quests you either go kill something or fetch something which requires killing alot, character progression has nothing but combat skills (avoiding combat is combat too) and the entire setting is about killing stuff (mq, civil war, fluff of skyrim...), boring combat hinders the game alot. All you do is press a button (mages press 2). Atleast in MB you have to take considerations timing, your weapon and position.

Melee weapons aren't actually melee weapons because mechanically (I've checked this via creation kit) they act like guns. Even games like dungeon defenders know what is the difference between a gun and a sword (DD has both guns and melee weapons).

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

I think the problem is, as we get more advanced in our gaming technology, we move further away from what makes a truly decent game. I don't think I have played many games on the 360 or PS3 that I would say are games worthy of a 9+ score. Certainly an 8 or an 8.5, I think the closest to this would be either Demons Souls or Dead Space and maybe UT3.

No pity, no remorse, no shoes

I don't agree entirenly. While it's true that graphical enchants rarely add much to the game even though they take huge development time and money I don't think the main issue here is technology advensements.

Take a look at portal 2. You start in a chamber which soon gets smashed apart. While visually impressive it serves no purpose to gameplay and infact is just in the way of gameplay. The reason why the scene was added is because it makes you more immersed to the world of portal 2. If portal was done 5-7 years ago this wouldn't even nearly as impressive as it is now.

I think the main reason games aren't good as they were is because people want bad games. Not intentionally but because they don't know of any better. My little brother used think that cods were the best games ever now he plays dota 2.

So people want bad games and devs make bad games. Only thing devs can improve with their game without making the game good is by making graphics better.

Well, there are of course going to be exceptions. I would maybe disagree with you. If it didn't need to have the graphics and it it had been done in the style of Elite or the Stars Wars Arcade game form 1983, would it have been as good? It would have been executable, just not as nice looking. Would the experience have been lost, possibly.

You do make a do make a good point though. There is a trend of mass producing a load of pants. I remember when the Megadrive came out and I would go to Toys'R'us and be spoilt for choice for a games, and come out with at least one title, now I can go into any retailer or look online and think meh.

Ooh, that's tricky.

However, if I had to vote, I would say:

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (my personal favourite Sonic game).

Phantom Crash (nobody will have heard of this in all probability, but my god is it awesome. Think Armoured Core, but casual and funny).

Bayonetta (porting problems aside, this is a great beat-em-up).

Metal Gear Solid (I really need to play this! Quite frankly, any entry in the series deserves a 10/10).

Team Fortress 2 (hands-down, the BEST online multiplayer FPS, EVER. Unless you got the awful PS3 port, which was a half-assed job and really doesn't reflect that well on Valve).

Halo (the original Xbox game, with one of the best campaigns ever, and THE best co-op mode ever).

Metroid Prime (the GameCube's Halo, damn I love Metroid Prime).

Vanquish (takes everything wrong with 3rd-person shooters, grinds them up, throws them out the window, and adds a buttload of awesome in their place).

Squigsquasher, resident ban magnet, White Knight, and general fethwit.

HEY HAS ANYONE YET POINTED OUT THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS A PERFECT GAME YET LOL?

Anyway, here are my picks for games that deserve to be rated a 10:

Total Annhiliation (PC)
CoD - Modern Warfare (and I'm not even into this franchise) (PC)
Mass Effect 2 (although I liked some elements of ME1 better) (PC)
Half Life 1 & 2 (PC)
Portal (PC) and Portal 2 (PC)
Left 4 Dead (PC)
The Legend of Zelda (NES)
Super Mario Brothers 3 (NES)
Bioshock (PC)
World of Warcraft (pre-expansions)
Dawn of War (PC)
Civilization 5 (PC)
Unreal Tournament 2004 (PC)
Terminator 2 Pinball (Arcade)
Daytona (Arcade)
Starcraft (PC) (I don't actually like this game very much)

Games I loved that simply could not make the list:

Dragon Age 1&2 (PC)
Mass Effect 3 (PC)
AVP 2 (PC)
Neverwinter Nights 2
Dungeon siege 1 (PC)
