At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money. |

This is a Cthulhu RPG set in ww2. The only reason Mansions of Madness tiles are being shown is that they are an example of tiles previously done by the guy they just announced as doing their tile sets. He has also done the Descent v2 tiles along with some of the other boards for FFG.
According to one of the comments, the floor tiles will come as a free PDF for everyone who is of pledging PDF Master and above (£35). I would imagine print versions will be available as a stretch goal; though no prices have been announced yet as we've not quote reached it yet.
Speaking of goals broken... we passed the Pacific book yesterday and are currently only about £400 away from unlocking the mythos miniatures

We unlocked the six 28mm Cthulhu creatures - check out this Deep One Commando as an example of what's to come:
We'll have Pledge levels for just the miniatures soon if you want to get your hands on these 28mm critters and heroes.
Big news - we've announced we're working towards a FATE Core conversion and here's a motivational poster to inspire you!

We're already planning an official expansion for the Heroes of Normandie WW2 board game and have a miniatures supplement in the works for Achtung! Cthulhu...more on that to come!

Yeah, It's an RPG setting that can be used with either the Call of Cthulhu, Savage Worlds or Fate rule sets. The £35 level and above gets you *all* of the books as pdf, along with two extra pdfs of floorplans of icy caverns, military bases and mystical otherworlds... really really good value!
We've passed two goals to give us some miniatures; there are 6 investigators and (currently) 6 different Mythos monsters and some nazi zombies that you can buy as add-ons. There are apparently plans to also add a pack of the Deep One commandos with multiple poses. The models are 28mm and are aiming to scale with Bolt Action (and equivalents) rather than GW
But... today they announced an add-on that is a set of miniature rules as well. So I guess it's both now

Hi guys, our core books - the Keeper's & Investigator's Guides and all the accessories - miniatures, tees, dice etc will all ship around September and be sent in PDF form in August including the PDF floor plan tiles. The rest of the books will be in print late 2013, and one or two will be early 2014. So you'll get the main stuff within 9 months.
We're showing off more miniatures sculpts and concept art tonight - it's unlikely we'll be able to show all the sculpts before the end of the kickstarter (it was after all mainly an RPG kickstarter) but we are pledging to refund ADD ON's for miniatures and Miniatures only PLEDGES if people aren't happy with the sculpts once they are unveiled. There will be some 'unit packs' for most of the Cthulhu creatures including the zombies with at least 3 alternate poses.
We've unlocked an Add On for ONEWAR - an Introductory Wargame set in the Achtung! Cthulhu universe using cards for units, orders, random events and solo play. See below...
Here is the latest update with the news that we unlocked the FATE Core conversion, and new ADD ON's (Dice, T-shirts, Custom T-Shirts, Achtung! Cthulhu Introductory Wargame ONE WAR) and a sneak preview of the Investigator's Kit bag Collector's Edition...
The next big Stretch Goal unveiled is the Terror's of the Secret War guide - a fantastic 128 page book of giant Mythos Terror's, Plots and new rules! if you need still need a reason to back the Kickstarter here's another piece of amazing art by our latest artist to join the project Ian Scholefield

So even if I pledged for all the books, as I'm getting tempted to do as Weird War II is one of my favorite settings... I'd also have to pick up on of the following rule sets too: Call of Cthulhu, Savage Worlds or Fate?
Any recommendations there?

We won't have more sculpts before the end of the kickstarter so the deal is - you don't like the final sculpts when they are finished? We refund the miniature Add On or Miniature Pledge Amount. Simple - we're that convinced you'll love 'em!

So far only the Keeper and Investigator guides are going to be available for Fate, so for full usage of everything in all the other books, I'd go for either CoC or Savage Worlds. After that it's a choice of playing styles I think. CoC is more investigation driven and pretty lethal (from what I've heard) with plenty of existing books for investigations in various time periods... but nothing in the WW2 area. Savage Worlds is more pulp action that seems to be pretty easy to pick up so far. There are also plenty of other settings that you can grab bits from to help make your setting fit your imagination; there's even a Weird War 2 book already. I went for Savage Worlds because I'm looking to introduce a youngster to roleplaying.
If you're ok with pdfs instead of books, you can get a great bundle of the current Achtung Cthulhu books, the Savage Worlds core rulebook and the Savage Worlds Cthulhu setting book. The best bundle I've seen is the first Achtung Cthulhu book and the SW Cthulhu book for $15... saving you $20 on the SW Cthulhu. The main Savage Worlds book is available in a travel edition that is $10. It's identical to the £30 version, except it's slightly smaller and is paperback... can't really go wrong with it
The added bonus is that Savage Worlds also has Deadlands as one of it's other settings Automatically Appended Next Post: Zond wrote:I want to go with the FATE version, but I'm curious as to whether or not the game will be self contained or if I will need the FATE Core or Accelerated rulebooks?

I'm not sure about the delivery times, but I believe you'll still need a copy of the Fate Core book to go with them as they are setting guides for players (Investigator's manual) and GMs (Keeper's guide) that create a pre-built world for you to use.

Savage Worlds is an awesome system. It also has a built in miniature game with the Showdown version of the rules.
It is definitely the way I would go.

How "powerful" do you want your characters to be? Call of Cthulhu characters are basically normal humans. You generally want to avoid combat if possible, since when a normal human gets in a gunfight, odds are they die. So it has a rather different adventure feel than the other two more heroic systems, where there's more of a threat of death with less player control.
As far as the system goes, its an older d100% skill based system. You have some stats similar to D&D that (generally) range from 3-18, but most often you'll be rolling your "Investigation", "Persuade" or "Occult Knowledge" skills. So if you roll under your skill (with any bonus or penalty based on how easy the task is) you succeed. Its pretty simple, so it has easy character creation. It does lack the narrative player control of the other two systems. So I would prefer it for one shots, or teaching people who are entirely new to RPG's, but prefer the other two systems for longer running campaigns.
Savage Worlds is the successor of the original Deadlands. It has lots of different rules for different genres, and is meant to be a generic skeleton for pulp heroic adventuring you can use in different settings. Sop its similar to GURPS, though IMO cleaner in design. Characters use dice types ( d4, d6, d8 and d12) as their stats. So a strong, dumb guy might have d12 Strength, d10 Endurance, d6 Dexterity, d4 smarts. Task resolution is pretty simple, as its a combination of your stat and training at whatever you're trying to accomplish, where your skill indicates how many dice of your stat you get to roll. So the strong guy ( d12) with a 3 in Athletics rolls 3d12 when trying to wrestle a bear into submission or something. Similarly he might roll 3 of a different stat if the GM calls it. 3d4 (smarts)for sports trivia, or 3d6 (Dexterity) for making a basket. You take the best of the dice, and each die is open ended. So if you roll a 6 on a d6, you roll the d6 again, and add to it. Its an interesting situation where someone can be less naturally inclined to something (die type), but still get a better result because of training (more dice to roll and open ended). It has merits and flaws, but what I like is that the flaws encourage players to police themselves, since you get fate chips (more on this in a minute) for hindering yourself. So if you take guillible, and have your character believe and act aong with a lie you yourself know to be false, the GM might award you a chip. Or if your character is a jerk, and you mouth when everyone knows you really should have just chut up, you might get a chip. So its not just a pure numbers twink system like I've seen in other merit/flaw systems.
Characters start each session with a pool of fate chips, which they can use to modify die rolls. In Deadlands, you started the campaign with X white chips (letting you add 1 to a dice roll), y red chips (letting you reroll), and a few blue chips (letting you reroll and add the result to the total). Or something like that, its been a bit since we played but you get the gist. You could also use chips to avoid damage, trigger special benefits, etc. And again, because you get rewarded for not metagaming against your flaws, it helps drive people to play in a more natural fashion that rewards roleplaying at the same time.
FATE is the one I have the least experience with, just recently starting playing in a friend's Dresden files game. Its also the most abstract of the systems. You still have skills (but not really stats) however what really forms the core of your character are various aspects you come up with yourself that can be used to give you a bonus in a situation. For example some of my current characters are "Always running my mouth", "Dark family secrets", "Friends in low places" and "Crazy enough to work". Similar to Savage Worlds, you start each session with a number of poker chips that let you influence the story. You can spend them to trigger an aspec and have that influence the scene or die roll. Similarly, if you trigger an aspect negatively (blabbing your plan to the cops, having the vengeful ghost of your Great Uncle Hornez appear and cause trouble, etc), you can pick up extra chips. However the GM can also compel your aspects, which might not sit well with some control freak gamers. So if you WANT to not blab to the cops, and the Gm compels your trait, you can spend a chip to ignore the effect or gain a chip and go along with the flow. Obviously this style of play has a lot more back and forth than some groups are used to or comfortable with. I personally like the shared storytelling aspect, where the players get to cause events (not just through their character's actions). But for random pickup games with peoople I didnt know all that well, I might prefer something mroe structured.

The Dust crossover supplement has been ticked off, we're now working towards a full colour printing of the Shadows of Atlantis book and some new creatures.
Speaking of creatures, the six that come in the initial mixed bag of nasties are:
It's also now possible to order specific packs of each creature. You get 6 models in each pack with three different sculpts.
There's also another crossover expansion for Heroes of Normandie called Shadows over Normandie that you can buy, either through this KS, or the Heroes of Normandie KS
