How did you do the Bolt Pistol? I'm thinking of making a striking scorpion chainsword as another cosplay idea...

Dragon*Con -- probably the best gaming convention on the east coast.

Its the best 3 day party I know of. I'm sure burning man is as good of a party, but Dragon*Con is more geek-central.

I like them. My only complaint is that those heels really should be flat heels, but I can see why you'd wear that if you were trying to look a bit taller for the costume.

Great costumes and very nice pics.

My favorites were the shots with the interesting backgrounds that completed the "characters" and their costumes. The staircase pic, jellyfish, and hotel glass hallway were appealing compositions though the low quality of the staircase shot (smart phone pic?) detracted a bit.

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.

Hey everyone! Sorry for the delay in responding!

What a response! Wow everyone! Thank you so much!

Now for certain replies:

* These were taken (mostly) at DRAGON*CON!!

* The rosette is painted. Gold, actually, but I can see how it could look un-painted. For some reason the grain doesn't look too bad in person, but it shows in the pics, I'm trying to think how to hide it since ten coats of gold paint seems to not be working.

* Bolt pistol! That is a modified nerf recon with some plastic bits cut out into the other shapes needed and then attached. I had no part in its crafting other that holding some things while it was glued or drilled.

* Heels? They were pretty low heels, you'd be surprised how rarely you can find comfortable completely flat boots. Those were super low, all leather and SOOOo comfortable. I will wear them with whatever costume that I can get away with. They are very con worthy.

* Next costumes? I'm looking at doing a female archon (changing it from a wytch) and maybe a harlequin if I have time and can get a design down that would not be silly looking.

* Pic quality: Yeah some are cell phone pics, others are professionals, then I have everything in between!

-------------------

If you guys want any more pics of certain costumes, I have plenty, ESP the Inquisitor.

Thank you so VERY much for the support and kind words!

Archon is a better choice than a wych imo. I'm sure the costume will be impressive.

One thing I'd recommend to all cosplayers in general is to modify the size of the weapons.

I'll pick on Reatrea since this is her thread.

Looking at the whole ensemble the costume is very believable. The ears were wonderful, I couldn't see where the prosthetics began. Then, however, we get to the staff.

Now I know you probably just took a farseer mini and scaled the staff accordingly.

My recommendation: Don't.

GW weapons are overly huge. When you copy them to scale they are so ridiculously large they make a costume look like a costume. If your seer's staff was more in real life natural 1:1 scale it would look better.

I'm not a cosplayer myself, but I'd recommend maybe taking a walk in the woods, find a nice size stick for your height, and thin enough you can get your hands around.

Strip it of bark, sand it down, and stain it in a light wood color. Add some craft store gems and your costume will be 20% cooler.

Yeah but it's a Warhammer 40K costume, half of the weapons in that universe are ridiculous and oversized.

I really like the Inquisitor and the Farseer. The Sister of Battle costume was pretty good, but didn't look polished or even complete in some places. But the other two were better than 95% of the costumes I've seen at Comic Con.

Heh - just noticed the Broadside in the background.

And I'll vote Archon or Harlequin.
The Archon will be decidedly warmer than a Wych.
And a lot classier.

A Harlequin could be done using a Morphsuit.
This one or this one would be rather suitable I think.

Though a real quarter-staff is supposed to be 125 to 150% of your height. It should be longer than you are tall, not as-tall-as. You wanted reach with those things, to keep guys with stabby things as far away from you as possible, and also for leverage, in order to shatter jaws and crunch skulls.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

I had it that height so that I wouldn't bang my head on it. I plan to cut it into two parts (that re-attach) for better transportation but that will only take an inch off. If it was any shorter I would have sustained injuries.

I definitely think I'm going to do an archon if I do DE. That morph suit is awesome, are there ones without heads?

Dunno about you, but I actually find flatter heels to be more comfortable. Then again, I worked manual labor for three-four years earlier in my life and got used to work boots, so I'm probably an odd case.
