But if you're read what everyone else in this thread has said, there is no need to buy gold at all, nor do you need to buy any of the other quests or characters.
So it sounds like for $4.99 you get a complete game if you're happy with it, and by the looks of the gameplay video the game is amazing looking and fun to play if it's your cup of tea.
In the world of mobile gaming, this model is not even in the same ballpark of the stuff that is actually designed to fleece you.

You do have a point; however, I am simply expressing some disgust with the whole business model (though it is arguably an effective one). I understand that there is no "requirement" per se to buy the gold or purchase the characters but there is an expectation of doing so. I am fully able to understand expansions and the need to support further development in the game; however, this game was released with the "expansions" already available. They planned to sell the consumer an incomplete product from the beginning tailor made to suck more money from me. As I said, if I want to pay to complete a game that is delivered intentionally incomplete, there are plenty of "freemium" apps out there.
I suppose more than anything else I'm just disappointed. As you say, to each their own and there are plenty of others who don't feel as I do.

How are completely unnecessary and cheap add-ons offensive? If anything this is how it should be: full game stands alone, but if you like there are options and if the options are a good value and well made you can buy them.
No, there really isn't. They hope you buy them, but that isn't the same thing.

And again, that isn't the situation here, at all. This also isn't really an opinion issue either, as we know that it is a complete game out of the box. Even the actual board game this is based on had seperate purchasable characters and expansions, and yet, was still a full game out of the box.

Hi Ahtman,
But it is an opinion. Your opinion is that it's a complete game, my opinion is that it is not. The argument that it is exactly like the board game is apples and oranges because the expansions were offered some time after the initial release of the game....making them expansions. What we have with this app is the game was released with already completed "expansions" which means they just left things out so they can charge you for them. Point of fact, the original board game came with 4 characters and the game was expanded continuously for some time through WD articles. Though you had to pay for WD, this was back in the day of WD actually being a decent source of value-added material, not just for "specialist games" like Warhammer Quest but for 40K and Fantasy as well (i.e. Chapter Approved).
In any event, I'm not trying to argue here; obviously it doesn't bother you and it does me. I was expressing my view-point, my opinion that the consumer is being charged for an incomplete product with premium add-on content right out of the gate. YMMV of course and that's fine, the world is completely able to accommodate both of our opinions.

Edited for perhaps being to aggressive.
Look, you have an entire thread of people trying to help you out and give you information on the game, but you keep sticking your head in the sand and saying "NOPE OPINION". It is frustrating to those who are trying to give you the information you as for and then you just saying, essentially, 'you're wrong', even though you haven't bought or played it.

I think, perhaps, you misunderstand me. I just expressed my opinion. I have played the game on a friend's iPad and enjoyed it; it really took me back to the board game (it actually made me want to push my gaming group to pick up Descent v2 again). That said, the iap model leaves a bad taste in my mouth; I want to pay a fair price for something and then have support for some time with it, like knights of pen and paper or mighty dungeon; both of these examples have iap gold but dungeon and content expansions are free. I'm a completionist by nature , which is why I spent so much on the Deadzone kickstarter, but hate being nickle and dimed; charge me once for the complete game and if you have extra content later and I still like it, great. This game was released with a few characters and then you're told, "hey, why not drop another $9 on these other characters that we made at the same time as the ones you get with the game you just bought but we didn't include them because we want to see how much more money we can get out of you'". ( nice run on sentence)
Look. It's fine if you don't agree with me. You may feel that I'm being obtuse but I just happen to think differently than you and some others do. Believe it or not, I'm not alone here; read the comments in the App Store and you'll see at least a few others who think as I do. Thank you for taking the time to explain your thoughts to me but afraid we're going to wind up disagreeing in this matter.
Have a pleasant evening.

But it isn't really an opinion to say that it isn't complete without optional content, it is just wrong, as it is a complete game without them. Being a completionist is fine, but that means the problem is on your end, not the games, which, again, is actually complete without any of the extras.

My problem is the cost of the extra characters and the fact they try to sell them to you every time you go on a quest.
WHQ the board game cost £50 and the addd on characters £6 (if my memory is correct?)
WHQ the App costs £3 while the IAP characters are £2
Making the actual metal extra characters 12% the cost of the board game.
Making these digital IAP characters 66% the cost of the iOS game...
That's pure greed any way you try and twist it.
I'd have probabily paid 69p for each extra character... but £2 is too much!
Panic...

I've never said they were a good deal, just that they are completely superfluous to the experience.

Whilst I also dislike most games with pay to unlock content, it's far cheaper than buying the board game and all related expansions / required miniatures! If it was on Android I would snap it up. Hopefully someone will port it.

I've gotten 15hrs or so out of the $5 game, which is better Hours per Dollar then most console games released over the last few years.
I'll end up picking up Skaven at some point. I'm personally glad it was a Day 1 DLC, it shows they have an interest in producing expansions and hopefully means additional expansions are coming.

Yeah Ahtmans on the ball there mate, I honestly reckon that most people that buy extra gak in ipad games are young thrusters, the overwhelming majority of people I know certainly don't.
For myself, I've cracked about 10 hours this weekend, Ill not buy any extras either, and I think its brilliant, really addictive, really easy to pick up and play.
There is certainly no need to buy any extra stuff either, I actually really enjoy throwing the ironbreaker and the marauder up front and using the archer and the mage to gakker from a distance, despite the fact the archer is the worst shot ever, she shoots a bow about as well as Muhammad Ali..

You mean the difficult half of the market rife with piracy and made up of hundreds of different handsets with their differing CPUs screen ratios & resolutions, different touch screens and button layouts? As opposed to easy half of the market with the secure market place with a controlled variation of product specs.
It's a mystery...

I've been playing this quite a bit over the last few days and am really enjoying it. It's a bit repetitive but quite satisfying when you clean out another dungeon and the 'story' bits between quests are quite nice, overall you feel you are probably making more decisions than the game actually offers.
I don't feel the extra characters are 'forced' on me. Sometimes I pick up equipment that can only be used by them but that's about all. They are off screen to the right of the tram selection menu so are easy to forget about.
Gold isn't an issue either. I hardly feel I need to buy a thing because I pick up a lot of goodies in the dungeons and the marketplace at various towns are poorly stocked. As a result I spend most money on occasionally levelling up and now have about £10K, which is far more than I need.

My only real complaint with the game is the "rotate for inventory"; since I usually have my iPad rotate-locked this is a minor nuisance for me and a questionable design choice. The enemy caster AI is a bit lacking as well, making the "climatic" battle a lot easier than it probably should have been. Outside of that it's been quite enjoyable. It's not some genre-defining work, but it's a fun game. It took me 14 hours to beat the "story", which is a decent time for a $5 game. I really hope they add the undead as an expansion.

I've been enjoying it.
I've got all the characters at max now (including the extra ones) and I'm a quest away from finishing the Skaven pack.
It's certainly worth the money (to me, at least)
I look forward to the next expansion.

In what way? In the board game enemy caster spells are determined by dice roll, my assumption is that the iGame uses the same mechanic.

If you move out of their line of sight, they just stand there. They'll cast 'Ere We Go, but never move. Not sure if that was in the original game but it seems pretty silly that they will be stationary while you slowly chew through a dozen+ Black Orcs instead of moving where they might be able to do something useful..

The game's difficulty doesn't seem so even to me. Most of the time I can cut through a dungeon no problem, none of my people are at risk and I have more loot than I know what to do with. But the last story mission I was swamped in Black Orcs. I was facing fie or six and when killing them was ambushed by eight more and shamans. Even given the strength of my party, fighting a dozen black orcs at once with Shamans giving them extra attacks was a big ask. I killed about half of them before abandoning the level. I think I'd prefer it if that was a bit less insurmountable and that the normal missions generally were more challenging.
Loot is definitely too freely available, or rather there's not enough to buy in the various market places.

I ended up going to Flensburg (sp?) because it had the jewellery shop so I could load out on rings (particularly the bonus to hit ring).
Shamans are a pain because a good Foot of Gork or Eadbutt can one-shot a healthy hero, but having the Waywatcher, Archmage and Grey Wizard means I can normally take them out in a round due to escaping pinning to hit them and Star Lance/Mindrazor.
