I don't mind people having fun at the weekends, it's just those who are inconsiderate every day of the week that I can't stand.

Fighting excessive noise with more excessive noise will leave the originally aggrieved party open to counter accusations; and if the neighbours in question lack respect for others then I'd advise against confrontation them directly.

Update- I was just sitting in my house this afternoon, and I heard some yelling. I didn't think much of it, people fight sometimes. It turns out it was this same guy and his excessively large, tight (sp?) wearing girlfriend fighting and making a huge scene in the parking lot. She was putting a bunch of stuff in the back and they were yelling. I heard him say Don't ing lie to me!" and then proceed to lean in the window of the car and talk to her. It was golden considering I don't have cable.

I guess Karma is real after all.

Sweet. Nothing beats seeing jerks have fights in public, except for when it happens at a really low-brow and seedy gas station... which my town has plenty of, so I get a pretty good show at least once every couple of weeks.

I never knew the US car culture was so sophisticated as to have low-brow and high-brow gas stations.

I can only imagine what a high-brow place might be like: Mozart played on the speakers, a wide selection of foreign newspapers in the shop?

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

It's more about the clientele than what the station offers. Forbes ranked my city as the third worst in the entire country. Nevertheless, there is a considerable difference between the East Side and West Side. The West Side has a crime rate comparable to Compton, California. I just so happen to live right off of the street that divides the two sides. There is a gas station a block from my house, and the police literally leave an empty cruiser there to scare away criminals because they always think the cops are there. That's what I get for wanting to live closer to school.

At a Place, Making Dolls Great Again

I've hated every neighbour I ever had... when I moved and found I had nice ones, I had to find something to hate about one of the ones across the street to have some semblance of normality in my mind... luckily I am petty and will often just make up things to dislike about people if need be so I am sleeping easy!

I agree with an earlier post about rude neighbors in an apartment not being something to call the police about. The physical intimidation is totally something to call them about.
Sounds like a pretty unclassy place, I would just move and not even bother with getting him kicked out by the landlords.

So in our apartment center one of my roommates found this wallet by the curb and decided instead of giving it to the front desk he would mail it to the address listed on the drivers license in the hope of getting a reward from the owner. Really dumb plan for many reasons. A couple days later me and a different roommate are walking back from the grocery store and this trashy lady asks us if we have seen a wallet lying around, so we bring her back to our apartment. Turns out shes our neighbor, and my roommate who found the wallet had already dropped it off at the post office. She came back the next day and started verbally harassing me and a friend who was over, claiming the wallet hadn't shown up in the mail. She called the police and tried to claim that we stole it. It was a pretty awful experience and was only resolved when it was discovered the the address on her license was different than her current address...You'd think she would have realized that from the get go right? She looked like a junkie though so no real surprise.
The best part? She ended up leaving a note with $20 for my roommate who found the wallet. She offered to by him alcohol anytime he wanted. He got his reward.

Generally in the UK, these sort of issues would be handled by the semi volunteer part time, "Community Support Officers" who even if they really are disinterested, would probably still take a complaint number (or crime number if it's something actually illegal) for you to attach things to in the future.

I've found that the UK police are next to useless when handling this kind of thing. If you're not lying a in a pool of your own blood they won't bat an eyelid (and even then you have to be dead, not just unconscious ya wimp). =P

To give context to that my parents have lived in their house for five years. Over the course of that the number of times they've called the police out must be in the triple figures by now. Despite having video evidence of things like destruction of property and assaults they always get the same answer: "Oh that's horrible, we'll do our best to help and find out about your previous reports". ...Cut to my father phoning up a week later and the staff member on the other end saying that its being "looked into". The police seem to have bigger problems than domestic issues to deal with I suppose. Then again I wonder what the job of "local police officers" is other than to deal with a set area in a community...

Let me put it this way, near my house I have a 7-11 gas station. It is clean and nice, I can actually think about putting the food there in my stomach.
Yet not to far is a gas station where my family periodically stops because it is also a liquor store. I never get out of my car to go there, it is a terrifying place with hoodlums hanging out outside and is notorious for gangs.

Talk to the landlord
or
Grab your balls and stand up to the guy. If he attacks you then he attacks you. You'll have all the evidence you need to get him in trouble.

Btw beatings dont hurt THAT much sure you'll get your face kicked a few times but itll be over in usually less than a minute its not to bad.

Beside you can fight back if he swings at you.

Yeah, pretty much the dumbest advice ever. If you can't be 100% sure that walking up to the guy and actually talking about it in a peaceful manner will end up with you shaking hands, then don't do it.

If you really want to put him on the edge, well... Stoners don't wake up early. Smoking weed after 21h00 is a great recipe for sleeping in the next morning, and then some more. So take up a carpenting project. Build yourself a new desk, a new night stand, or just fix up some stuff around the house. As long as it takes a few hours of hammering to get done. Start it up monday around 8h30-9h00, when everyone else legitimate is out of the building or already up.

Best case scenario, he gets that respect is a two way street, and you get new furnitures.

True, and here in the UK that "bigger problem" is speeding, because it boosts their monthly stats tenfold.

Ive had my share of noisey neighbours, usually at 2-3 in the morning when i have work at 5.
I usually give the wall a few kicks and they get the hint, then go back to bed.

The weed smell i cant help with though, as i do smoke it from time to time anyway.
I just wouldnt do it in a building as theres too much chance of kids being around.
Ill use it myself, but wont subject anyone else to it, more so, kids or babies.

I have lived in apartments before when I was younger as well, and had the same sort of problem. The police rarely do much in these circumstances.

Your actual course of action is to file a complaint to the apartment manager or rental company. After a tenant has a couple complaints against them from neighbors to the landlord, the landlord usually evicts them.

It is in the best interest of the apartment managers to keep it as a place people want to live.

Your police reports will go a long way towards solving your problem, but you are currently barking up the wrong tree.

This is the case in most places, and most of the reason is that there is a push towards a model of policing which is very similar to that of sales associates--ie the more "sales"(in this case, tickets) the more effective the sales associate.

I managed to find out his name and I put it through the online city court records. I found a treasure trove of goodies.

As of August of 2012, the good ol' boy has had:
Forcible entry
Possession of cannabis
Battery/Domestic Violence
A restraining order from a girlfriend. I wonder who this girlfriend could be. Facebook easily confirmed that it is the same one that was flipping out it the parking lot yesterday. And apparently the made up because they were out there again today.

I suddenly feel like smelling weed may be the least of my concerns in the future.

2012 eh? Is he on probation then? If so give his probation officer a ring and let him in on all the fun. A simple phone call could shove all your woes

KC is the man. A wise man. Listen to him, heed what he says. Make a note of what day of the week he pots up (is that the right term?) and try to find his probation officer on that day.

Exactly this. Landlords can be pretty anal about stuff like this, especially if there's a hint of illicit activty going on. Call him/her if your neighbor keeps it up.

Edit - Also, calling this guy's P.O. is a great idea if you can figure out who it is.

Call your local police station, say that you need to get in contact with the dude's parole officer. Don't feth around with someone who'se got forcible entry on his rap sheet. If the weed isn't enough, check if the restraining order still stands (she might not be very bright, if she remains with the dude).

Sidenote, I would've thought that, since he's got possession on there, that he would have to go through regular drug testing...?
