Just buy a nexus 7 for like 140 bucks or something. If you really want it : )

How is a Nexus 7 going to let him use the iBooks version he wants?

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

This comment is suppose to make you better/smarter than other people who buy it? This comment makes you superior? And the point is?????????????? What is wrong with other people buying it, (or renting it as you say) if they so like to? They know what they are getting into. People who get it, don't make them any worse than you who doesn't buy it?

After all, you are in a 40K forum, and most likely buy miniatures. No matter where you buy the miniatures, you are over paying for them no matter what? So who is the fool here? Someone buying/renting and iPad version or someone who overpays for plastic toy soldiers?

So from what I see, we are only getting the rules, and no fluff/background in there correct? How much is the Canadian version? $50? I don't see a price tag for it.

Bro don't take the bait. :( I'm an Android user myself but can see the appeal to Apple devices. No one start a ios vs Android war :(

Nothing odd at all.
The kindle & android don't support ebook formats that are capable of any other formatting.
Where Apple has does have a ebook format that supports sophisticated formatting.

So the iPad gets sophisticated digital books where Android & Kindle don't.

What happened to not turning this into an iOS vs Android contest?

On a technical note, android is *not* limited to only formats that are not capable of being read on other platforms.

But is is limited in what it can do with epub files at the moment, which is a legitimate answer to the question of 'why do the epubs have formatting differences'. That's nothing to do with Android vs Apple, but really Android vs itself.

This looks like a pretty good deal to me. I currently don't own the 40k book because I'm loath to shell out £45 for a game I'm not playing much atm. The dark vengeance one is cheap but I find the mini books to be handy for reference but a pain when you want to sit down and actually learn the rules. If I learnt the new rules I'd be much more likely to play and would probably buy the rule book. The iBook gives me a nice get out clause for my vicious cycle yay!

Did I hear right someone said the digital copy was like the DV one with no fluff though? :(

It is possible to produce kindle books with flowery artistic details. Some of the plaintext data may need to be transformed into images though.

The epub standard actually supports all sorts of stuff and ereaders are finally starting to support things beyond the basics. However, there are two factors you need to choose from:

a) the ability to make the electronic version resemble the printed version

b) the ability to allow the text to flow onto different pages and around charts and diagrams, etc., depending on the user's font and size choices

The advantage of an epub is that the user can control the text size and style so that one file can work on devices of differing screen size and resolution. PDFs and Apple's iBook allows you to keep the original font and formatting. And then something like ibook allows you to go even further with additional media, look ups, and a variety of other functions.

I'm an epub person. I want my electronic files to be open and DRM free as well as customization for the different devices I might use to view them both now and in the future.

Absolutely correct the ePub 3.0 format does support those things; which is why I specifically called it out. Unfortunately to my knowledge there very few if any fully functional ePub 3.0 reader on the market.

Dear Black Library

Why is your Ebook £2.60 more expensive in €, £1.87 more expensive in $ and £4 more expensive in AU$ for a product which has no shipping or localisation costs?

I think this is at least a step in the right direction, although I think the price point is still too high.

A Dark Vengeance rulebook is like $25USD online. Granted the BRB is $74. But what equates to roughly $50USD for a PDF is still quite high.

It's certainly better than nothing, don't get me wrong.

Now if they can do the same with codices getting them in the $20 range again then I'll actually buy. As it stands I don't need a digital 40k rulebook.

Probably due to local taxes. In the UK we don't pay VAT on physical books but we do pay VAT on Ebooks so you'd have to take 20% VAT off an ebook then add the % of VAT in the country concerned.

Except GW doesn't do that. And GW doesn't collect local sales tax in the US for said items in states where they hold a physical presence, which must be itemized on the invoice.

So you are saying that it should be X-VAT=Subtotal+Local(listed separately)=Y

GW has never done that, even though legally they should.

Ireland is in the EU, there are no differences in VAT and no import tax. £20 rounds off to €23, the extra €3 is simple grafting

Attempting to purchase the ebook version , got the kill team rules and LOVE IT, pretty mmuch went out and got an iPad just for this . Question: I heard somebody say the weapon and profile stats are not in the book ie. points for units and weapon stats str ap etc. is this true ? This WILL be a selling point ! What's the point in buying it when you don't get what's in the BRB. Never mind the fluff

Those weapon summary pages are included when a new rulebook is released so they can (in some cases) update some of the weapon profiles to fit the new edition of the rules.

However, once codexes start getting released, having all the weapon profiles in the main rulebook becomes less and less useful and in fact becomes a liability because those rules no longer match the 'new' versions that get published in each codex.

So yeah, the digital edition of the rulebook does not have weapon profiles in it.

And as this is a semi-valid question, we'll let this admittedly old thread remain open for the time being.

So have we figured out if GW will actually send out updates to the digital ebooks? I know the ibooks auto update but do they provide an updated version of the ebook to download?

Currently debating whether to get the iBook or ebook version of the AM codex.

Thanks

GW won't 'send' out ebook updates as their site isn't set up to do so in the same way iTunes is

but they do say for example on the Space Marine Codex

"Download a new copy, complete with the latest updates, for any device, at any time.

{bla bla bla}

Last Update: March 2014:
Changes to Command Squad options (can now take Special Weapons)"

so it seems updated versions will be available once you've purchaced ebook versions

but the auto updating, and extra snazzy stuff the iTunes versions give you are (to my mind) worth the extra cost if you're going digital

Except that they seem to have more or less stopped doing regular updates on their ibooks files at roughly the same time they stopped updating their FAQs (which makes sense that if one stops, the other does).

GW currently seems to only care about putting out new rules now, and not caring at all about fixing or clarifying the stuff that has already been released.

Hm? They might call it a rental, but as long as I got a digital copy on my PC, it's my copy they can't take away...
Not exactly true. Itunes can revoke your local copy. And on things like Kindle or Nook, Amazon and B&N can and have deleted it from the device.
