We're still painting 'nid wings... well, two Harpies, and another 10 gargoyles, so our Skyblight can darken the skies at our FLGS.

But we haven't forgotten the Orks... on Sunday hivefleet Sr had another go at magnetising the Stompa arms. Took a massive 5mm x 5mm magnet, but now the chainsaw doesn't keep falling off.

This ain't the end of our plans for Stompas...

So... finally got the Orkz more or less done, mainly for a fab Apocalypse game at Dark Sphere last fall.

We now have 100 Boyz. All credit to - More Dakka's Speed Painting guide.

These were undercoated white, sprayed yellow with Army Painter daemon yellow "primer" (which is no good as a primer). They went out for a few battles, after which I (Paul) did a three-stage rust wash on all the metal, to match them up with stuff painted later.

Doing the first 60, I tried Tamiya yellow spray (comes out shiny), and settled on AP. It gives good coverage over white primer, but one problem is that the yellow in pots is abysmal, gives pathetic coverage. Later I worked with Humbrol Trainer yellow and found it the best all-rounder. It's a slightly darker yellow, works well with Citadel shades - Cassandra Yellow and Reikland flesh, and best of all the pot matches the spray can pretty perfectly. Hence I used a different technique from More Dakkas for the next 40 boyz, and all the Walkers.

Here are some of the next 20 - Spanna Boyz. We have an IA8 list with walkers that's been out a few times.

For these guys I generally undercoated the legs black, then the torsos and heads AP bleached bone, depending on whether they wore a helmet. THe yellows were Humbrol - if it went over black then I used the Citadel Averland sunset underneath the trainer yellow. this gives good coverage without too many coats.

Once we got into IA8, we started liking the idea of rusty metal. For metal, I started using AP gunmetal mixed with black, for a very dark metal base. Then a 3 stage wash, which I probably found about about here - scorched Brown, Bestial Brown, vermin brown or equivalents, made using Lahman MEdium (I tried vallejo which comes in nicer bottles and is cheaper but is useless, too opaque).

So, essentially, all the yellows are Humbrol, all the metals darkened gunmetak with the three stage wash. Most of the flesh is the standard GW combination. This was all pretty fast, given the size of our horde.

Spanna Boyz used the 'Tool Charms' - thanks to Mecha for the idea!

The Deff Dredz and Kans were painted much the same way...

Two Deff dredz... bottom weapons are magnetized. Again, for speed, I tended to paint the yellow and metal parts separately, often masking off parts; but the Averland/trainer yellow is fairly quick to pain on a black base, and matches the spray-painted areas well

One Squad ot 20 Boyz were made as Arz Boyz. I sprayed the shoulder armour and Iron Gobz separately, Humbrol yellow over white. The Iron Gobz were simply plasticard tubes, chopped into sections and then serrated.

We use one Nob with Power claw in every group of 10 Boyz, so that made 10 to paint. Again, undercoated black, painted pretty quickly, same metal technique, and shoulder armor painted separately where possible (a couple were AOBR or had armour moulded on, and in this case the pot paint again matched the spray pretty well). . Like the Ard Boyz, most of the legs are simply black with coal-blue or brown highlights, as we have so many to paint.

Manz and Grukk. Grukk always seems to give good results in battle. Manz are often used as yer standard Manz Missile.

Grukk....

I used GW's terrific formula for scratches - bone, dark flesh, boltgun.

Of course we know Orks aren't the most overpowered army. But Curtis won against Ultramarines Saturday, with a plaininsh 1500 list - using a Vanilla Stompa!

this was painted using our old method of AP yellow. It's ok, but slightly harder to shade. Still not quite finished - grots need work and we need to add at least one grot rigger!

The MegaDredd has only been used in Apocalype games so far. Likewise the custom Stompa with Wrecking Ball. Ball is polystyrene covered with green stuff, held on with plug chain. The mechanism broke and needs repair, in standard Ork fashion. For speed, I painted this Stompa body black, drybrushed gunmetal, then applied rust washes. Some of the hardware was primed in AP gunmetal, two black washed, then the rust washes. Yellow bits for the head etc were painted separately .

Battlewagon was, like its two companions, painted quickly for the Apocalypse game, same method as Stompa, yellow is Humbrol with the two Citadel washes and edge highlights.

Thanks Cleatus, we love your stuff.

People are always pleased to see Orkz on the table and generally complimentary.

But the best comment was a GW store in York, i think, where the staff said: "That's the most yellow army we've ever seen. "

I realise I didn't actually have photos of the Bad Moonz on the battlefield. Second photo is of a superb Apocalype battle at Dark Sphere... (which features a few unfinished Orks, sorry!)

Getting more or less close to finishing everything. Been adding tankbustas, and a couple of trukks.

Tankbustas are regular boyz parts, using up loads of rokkits that I've swapped on here. Plus Spellcrow heads to give em a bit of oomph. The crew for their truck, when it's finished, will match .

Final couple; Buzzgob and friends. For obvious reasons, I am now building a Klaw for the Kustom Stompa.

The Trukk is for our Manz missile - also the Tankbusta Trukk is ready for the table, but not for the camera.

ANd finally... my favourite Ork model - the oiler grot!

So.... all the Genestealer Cult developments made us dig out our Space Hulk set and finish everything, more or less.

Working on these models is a delight - the sculpts are great and have so much personality.

I'm having real problems photographing models recently, everything seems to hugely underexpose, perhaps because of the white background. If this comes out distorted, I'll update.

So, Hivefleet jr and Sr will be pitching stealers vs mareenz tonight. We'll update with the Marine pix soonish

So. My first Marines - from Space Hulk.

I used to dislike Marines but I really enjoyed working on these fellas - they all have distinct personalities. Which of course makes it worse when they get munched by Genestealers in game after game.

I don't pretend this is anything but a basic paint job but it was quite a stretch for me! I used the army Painter red primer - which is fabulous, one of their best, with great coverage. I more or less followed the GW paint scheme, taking a few tips also from the Tale of Painters guide which I used mainly for the genestealers.

Haven't used this fella in earnest yet. Still working thru the missions.

Normally Hive Fleet St doesn't play 40k, it's all jr, but we've played Space Hulk a lot together - it's great for that reason alone. But as mentioned... I think the Stealers have won every single time :(

Thanks, Hungryp!

Just finished a bit of final touching-up - noticed I hadn't painted the fusewire on my bombsquig's dynamite. But now I've painted the fuse I can't seem to capture it in a photo anyhow!

I'm sure you can imagine how it feels to be reading the Ork tactica thread with a bunch of these beasties just completed. Just been examining one Meganob to work out how I convert him to Killsawz! Why didn't I magnetize him first time around, dammit!

What can I say about these? They are grots. Mere, malevolent grots. Speed-painted using moredakka's guide, linked above. These are perhaps near the end point of the troops, around 120 and counting...
