If we leave SoB aside (can they still be called an army ?), it has to be Orks.

We waited nearly 10 years for a new dex (1999-2008), and once again we're about to get past expiration date, if Tyranids and/or IG get their 'dex before us.

Most people I know would have quit or bought another army, yet I see quite a lot of Ork players stick to Greenskins no matter what.

Besides, you have to be really loyal to your army if you want to paint the hundred models you need to play a simple 1850-2000pts game...

Space Wolf players are the most diehard I've seen. They're as certifiably crazy as the Chapter they support

I think any army which hasn't been updated for a while gets whittled down to just the die-hard fans. All the people who 'kinda like em' wander off to do different armies.

EG - Blood Angels. Soo many people have
A)Bought the codex when it was the new hotness
B)Sold said codex as soon as something better came along.
Leaving only those obsessed with the colour red remaining.
Other examples would be
Eldar in 5th/early 6th.
Tau in 5th/Early 6th.
SoB, Orks, Nid's etc

Actually quite an interesting theory, a missionary friend of mine had Tau, whilst probably the most random friend (and probably chaotic) of mine runs orkz to the point he has like 2500 points of SM sitting on a shelf collecting dust, and I will admit I am a little paranoid of getting stabbed in the back (no not like a friend of mine is going to literally stab me in the back) and I run Dark Angels......I guess if anyone makes a thread about this pm me about it .

and just on dakka:

Most marine players seem a little prouder than the other army players (note the devotion you get to the UM's and IF)

Space wolf players are generally a bit more gregarious and outgoing.

Dark Angels: Most seem a little on the paranoid side, and tend to be a little reclusive

Eldar players generally seem a bit on the fey side

Tau players generally are the Speech and Debate type

Chaos fans seem to be quite blunt about things

BACK ON TOPIC:
Actually a few years ago before fotm hit I would have to say necrons, they only had one really viable list and that was destroyer spam, but look how many people played otherwise and almost always lost but had fun while they were at it.

Ork fans are hardcore, they stick it out until the end and I have known many Ork players that keep on kicking even though their army is old and getting smoked by some of the newer stuff.

I would say a tie between Orks and SoB but you'll see Orks come out of the wood work when the book is released, you don't see any SoB coming out of the woodwork.. or flocking to their over-priced models. SoB are most hardcore.

I would say sisters as those players have never given up and almost no new sisters are joining the ranks.

For those saying tau.... yes there were some of us who stuck by them, but most players quit for years and then just jumped back in with the update. Taking a 7 year break is not loyalty.

I'm sure most Sisters players have shelved their army and will jump back in once they get a paper codex and plastic minis. Besides, SoB players are not as hardcore as those with Squats!

Most Loyal I would have to say Sisters of Battle. Most Fanatical I would have to say Ultra Marines. Mainly the fluff readers and video game players that go into the tabletop and get a horrible case of butt hurt when one marine dies, ONE MARINE, because that one marine is never supposed to die, supposed to kill everything in his path and not look back.

I never shelved my army. None of the others I know truly did. We may have had other armies in the twelve years since our last real codex, but we kept coming back to the Sisters.

For every time I see Squats mentioned, I only know of two people who actually have any. Most of the Squat champions are latecomers who want to fit in with the crowd by lamenting about the squats.

Many other armies (Dark Eldar, Necrons, Orks .etc) have been through extensive periods of neglect by GW, left with unvaried or unattractive models and outdated rules. But many of them continued to play their armies through these periods despite this. Even if they shelved it, they too would keep coming back to their main army, as it is probably also their favorite. This is not something that is unique to SOB players; most other armies have at some point experienced it, its just that as the SOB are suffering at the moment, they seem to be those suffering hardest.

This is true. Many times since starting my SoB army, I have been struck with sudden urges to apply fire to "the heretics".

I've even heard tales of one person who attempted to drive a pipe organ straight out of a church. Thankfully, they didn't get very far on it.

 gossipmeng wrote:

I don't think it's that bad, I've seen plenty of new SoB players in my internet travels.

I wasn't trying to say that it makes us martyrs somehow, I was just refuting the idea that we (Sisters players) don't count as loyal because we "all shelved our armies", when the opposite is true.

My army has managed to stay unshelved because everytime I even consider it something comes along and inspires me to put them on the table again! I just can't help it. If GW does a Collector's Edition for every Major Order I will sell all my blood so I can have one of each.

You mean Wraithknights? You'll have to ally in some Eldar for those. And they're bit more than sub-200.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
