Which army do you think has the most diehard fans. The fans that keep playing no matter how bad the codex gets or how much the meta game shifts?

And why do you think that army inspires such loyalty?

The plural of codex is codexes.

Orks. Even non-Ork players love them some greenskins.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

Before the new Tau codex Tau would have to be at least a strong second (remember back when tau sucked...).

Currently, either Sisters or Orks, because those are the two armies that seem to be getting the least competitive love right now.

False. If by "love greenskins" meaning love wrecking them on the table then yes but otherwise no.

I guess I'll vote SoB (depsite my obvious bias), since they seem to have gotten lots of more "hardcore" fans owing to their various difficulties.

As for what inspires that loyalty, I'd say a combination of geniune charm (in terms of models, fluff and gameplay) as well the fact that they're usually a bigger investment than usual, so people probably feel more invested in them.

On the contrary, Sisters were perfectly competetive before the new update. As of the new update? Consensus seems to be that they've gotten even mroe effective, and are even very good at dealing with some of the most dangerous units on the tabletop.

We're fine on gameplay, it's the models and proper codex update that we're waiting for.

Sisters of Battle. You can badmouth IG and barely anyone will complain. Say anything bad about the SoB? You'll have quite a few people on your case. Can't really blame 'em, though, since Imperial Guard has a feth ton of models and rule support from their sugar daddy FW while SoB just gets an occasional codex update.

Otherwise I'd have to say... DKoK. You don't make that army you marry it. (Forget who came up with that saying).

Whenever we get a spate of intense army hatred, I like to throw up a poll (My 'Objective Hate' series that some people might remember) to see how the feelings about that army actually run.

Out of the ones I have done, only the Ultramarines fans took it as a personal insult that I dared suggest that ANYONE could dislike their army. The fans trolled the thread until it got closed down, and personally harassed me via PM. (Even taunting me after the fact about how they had 'defended' their army.) That level of insanity was pretty unexpected, but it's something I keep in mind whenever discussing A) the Ultramarines and B) the mentally disturbed.

If you mean 'loyal' in a positive sense, then Sisters. No legitimate figures. No legitimate codex. Insulting magazine codex. Then insulting digital codex. I normally don't jump on the GW hate wagon, but I think Sisters players have some pretty legitimate grievances concerning the way GW has treated them. Their like Cubs fans. Their loyalty is beyond contestation.

I would almost say Orks, hell even if something bad happens during every game orks play more often than not the player will laugh his butt off. But they may be tied with sisters, due to the fanatical devotion.

On a off topic note: I find it quiteodd that GW cut BT but kept DA, heck most DA players pretty well agree that they could go into C:SM and be perfectly fine

Id want to say Black templars (might be biased since B&R BT forums is pretty dedicated), but SoB takes the cake. For these reasons.

-no plastic minis (BT has the chapter sprue)
-no dedicated codex (WD does not count - BT getting rolled actually gives us more options)edit: didnt realize the supplement says Codex, so scratch this one.
-no new units (BTs have access to all SM toys now)

So yeah, SoB players are definitely dedicated.

I love Orks.

However, SoB seem to easily have gotten the largest shaft of all the armies overall and deserve the win in the "most loyal fans" category.

I've never seen a hateful post on here about how sisters are garbage or anything like that.

BUT. Orks are still really funny to play.

I think that this is in part due to the perception of the Sisters, though, and not just the dedication of the fans, though I'm sure that people may disagree. See, there's a lot of misconceptions about the Sisters, more than any other army, I'd wager. In terms of fluff, a lot of people haven't read the SoB studio material, and have often only been exposed to hearsay or (often wildly derivative) third-party fluff about them. When a person comes in and asks something like "what if Chaos Sisters?", it's akin to somebody asking "what if peaceful Orks?" or "what if rebellious Tyranids?". But of course, since a lot of people aren't that familiar with SoB studio fluff, more questions of that sort get asked, so SoB fans are correcting people's perception of their army's fluff more often. Similar deal for crunch. Owing to the Sisters being a fairly rare army, a lot of people aren't familiar with how they play or their competitiveness and only have hearsay to go off of, and often assume that they're far weaker than they are and underrate them. This leads to people who know the SoB correcting this misconception, and pointing out that the Sisters are actually quite good on the tabletop. TL;DR, SoB fans spend more time correcting people because lots of people have misconceptions about the Sisters, which could contribute to the perception of them being "more dedicated".

I hope that didn't come off as too pretentious or anything, but from what I've seen, it's a valid point.

I'll have to disagree with you on some points. Whilst not a proper codex, the digital codex is certainly a dedicated codex, in that it is dedicated to the SoB. And, though it has nothing to do with dedication, it gave us more options as well. We're actually much more flexible now in terms of how an SoB army can be built, which we really needed.

 BrotherHaraldus wrote:

I recall somebody on /tg/ once saying something like "you people are as deluded and blindly faithful as your army" about SoB fans. And then somebody replied with "thanks!" and a picture of a smiling Sister. I certainly think that the idea of playerbases displaying some of the traits of their chosen army has something to it.

(re-reading that, it looks like I'm implying that SoB fans are deluded. Not my intent, I meant more that they believe in and like their army a lot)

DA have been separate for a long time, though. Well, their first codex was shared with the BA, but that was still them being distinct. Point is, there's historical precedence working in their favour, if that matters.

The Ultramarines do have a particularly large and zealous fandom. Only the Salamanders seem to foster a similarly widespread devotion.

Ultimately, it's gotta be the Sisters fans. Anyone who can deal with the years of neglect that poor army has received and come out the other side is unquestionably loyal.

Dont get me wrong troike, by me saying the WD and Supplement isnt a real codex, I meant it literally as NOT having the words CODEX printed in the cover as the only reason. Which for a new player might completely miss when starting an army.

E.g.
I didnt know there was actually an SoB army when I was first looking around the local GW. Only found out about sisters when I started browsing online and someone mentioned they had a WD codex.

The new AS codex does indeed have the word codex written on its cover.
Spoiler:

And, if memory serves, the WD issues containing the codex also said that it included "codex: Sisters of Battle" inside, though I could well be misremembering.

But yes, they do suffer for their lack of store presence, so not everybody knows about them at first. Though the Digital Codex was promoted by GW quite a bit.
