Biker chapter master with AA, BB, and SS. Works great with my templar tactics. But I never go past 300 points on my HQ options (command squads/honor guard not counted). So I guess im herohammer lite?

After playing Tyranids since I was 11 and seriously ever since the new codex came out in 2008, I love hero hammer!
I'm getting a kick out of my 9-man grey knight army at 1850!

When Playing space wolves I normally take logan and a runepriest in tda. Havind said that, last game was 2k pts and I brought 8 HQs- logan, bran redmaw, and 6 Rune Priests. Devastated my Necron opponent. Due to play tomorrow with a Khorne Daemon army 2k list which has skarbrand, a bloodthirster, and 3 daemon princes along with 40 flesh hounds and 20 bloodletters. I do like herohammer but sometimes I wonder whether I play it just to avoid buying more models due to gw's horrific prices.

As a CSM player, I like to have a commander of around 200 pts (Well equipped Chaos Lord or Typhus or Daemon Prince), and then just deck out the rest of it with horde spam (Cultists) supported by some Heavy Support and maybe some Plague Marines.
So I kinda use both.

With their overcosted prices as a faction I'd have thought you'd steer clear of HQ point sinks.

As tau, I play hybridhammer.
The HQ is often tooled up the wazzo (I hit 225 once), but the army itself is often flooded with bare-bones, or minimalist battlesuits/tank.
Rare is the day I bring anything decked up except the HQ, and an odd riptide.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now. |

Thats fair. Any Necron players want to chip in on this?
It seems Tyranids kinda have to with Tyrants, and Marines need to for utility.
The other armies seem to use all that gear for the sake of enhancing their army buffing ability?

Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum. |

Seems to be.
I know that with Daemons it can vary heavily from player to player due to the MC's in the dex, but in CSM it's very much "take this for buffs, or take that to murder something important, then spam something".

Indeed, you more or less need a large HQ for CSM. Either a FMC DP of utter peril. Or a Lord on a bike with MoN, just so you can unlock those yummy PM for troop choices.
