As a side note, McDonald's has a distinct smell to it (all of them), which becomes very apparent after about two years of not eating from the chain. And the smell does not smell like food or anything someone would want to eat.

Does anyone worry that the burgers won't be as good without the ammonium hydroxide? Like that's what gave them that extra "umph" to the meat (if it really is meat) sort of like how tuna isn't as good now that they removed the dolphin from it (which was the best part).

Honestly, I just shrugged at the whole pink slime deal.

The burgers taste great. If anyone suffers from the delusion that they're healthy for you, then I don't think any amount of lawsuits are going to save them from their own foolishness. If people want to realize that there is probably additives for sanitization/preservation that probably aren't the best for you, or that the burgers are made with cheap, sub-par meat, and choose to eat them anyway, then that's their own decision. A tasty, delicious decision.

It's recently come to light that some food producers may be using a compound made with Chlorine in their foods. CHLORINE IS A DEADLY GAS USED AS A CHEMICAL WEAPON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What kind of sane person wants food that's been exposed to chemical weapons? This is a no-brainer, we want real food not food that's been treated with deadly chemicals.

In fact, I dislike him so much, that I am going to McDonalds for lunch tomorrow just to spite him!

So true.

I've gone around 25 years, bar one time around 15 years ago when I thought, what the hell. was sick as a dog.

I do eat meat, but that stuff in McDonalds ain't meat. Smells worse than the stuff I feed my dog.

I don't know, Team Wienie eats well. Dog food plus peanut butter, barbeque chips, speghetti, any roadkill they find, and a generous bit of steak or fajitas whenever we go to or make them.

Bingo, salt.

Yes, you did. The fact you could take it seriously kind of illustrates my point though. The title was "Jamie Olivier Defeats McDonalds with Science" but we get linked to this crap:

"Besides the low quality of the meat, the ammonium hydroxide is harmful to health. Oliver famously coined this the “the pink slime process.”
“Why would any sensible human being put meat filled with ammonia in the mouths of their children?” Oliver asked.

Like I'm hardly an expert ammonium hydroxide or industrial food processing in general, but I know enough that otherwise deadly compounds can be used safely in food production. Lye dangerous stuff, but is a vital part of making soft pretzels, olives and other common items. Calcium Hydroxide is going to hurt you big time if you get it in your eyes, but is harmless enough in food production. Since I'm not living entirely off food I grow myself on my isolated mountainside ranch, I'm already dealing on faith that our regulators are at least making something resembling an effort to make sure general processes are safe.

Look, McDonalds is food is damn nasty just on the fact it's a bunch of pre-frozen, flash-fried greasy meat products. However if you're going to convince me it's being processed in a way I should object to I'm going to need to see more than some unappetizing looking slurry, and a cry of "OH THE AMMONIA, WON'T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN".

That isn't science any more than inane dribble about salt I just posted.

That's really the thing. ANYTHING is toxic, in large enough doses. You can (and people have) died from too much water. Like, drinking it even.

Food contains Hydrogen! Hydrogen is a flammable gas! Every time you eat, you're risking your own life and everyone around you! THINK OF THE CHILDREN!
Apples! Apples contain cyanide, a deadly poison! Bananas contain potassium, which reacts violently with water! Air! Oxygen is a highly reactive and volatile gas! Every time you breath, you are in danger of imminent fatal death! Think of the children, and stop breathing in something as harmful as oxygen!

I don't eat Mcdonald's burgers because, like most fast food places, they insist on slathering the thing with heaps of ketchup and/or mayo, to the point where the only noticable and overpowering taste is ketchup and mayo (considering that just the smell of ketchup is enough to make me retch, it's like some sort of specificially-tailored-food-anathema for me), I stick to the mechanically-reclaimed-chicken-based products thank you very much. Why is hamburger not good for you? What does "harmful bad chemicals" mean?

You absorb radiation when you eat bananas. Radiation is something that could be described as "harmful" and "bad". Are bananas bad for you?

This, it's the same for all fast food. I had a sudden craving for a Chicken Royale from Burger King a few weeks ago, something I've not eaten in years, but I couldn't even get through the door of the place without getting the boak, the smell was atrocious.
