ugh you guys put my purple beast to shame. Granted he isnt technically done, i havent edged him or highlighted him yet, im trying to get the rest of my army to "Legal" level without doing a cheap 3paint job before i do any major work lol

I still have two more, one unassembled (lowest priority since i dont ever intend to use him except big games anyway) and the other primed but not painted. Since its such a huge model and takes a long time to paint i might just paint the next one to officially complete status straight off.

Also i need to work on my lighting apparently rofl kinda blushed out isnt it?

I really love the different designs that everyone has here, especially the Blue Twins - those paintjobs are simply gorgeous, and gives the models such character

Heres my scratchbuilt/converted Riptide. Its a lot bigger than the standard model, and currently with somebody else now, but was a fun project to work on while it lasted:

This is my favourite so far. It looks very "toy-ish". In a good way

7yler has an entire heavily anime-themed tau army, easily the best one out there that is indeed based on anime. Thats why that riptide looks so toylike because the entire ARMY looks that way lol.

So many of these have awesome poses. My friend had one and gave it the generic pose, now seeing these results it seems a bit wasted.

Nice set of riptides!

Here is mine. Fal'Shia sept(bleached bone sept color). The scheme is inspired by Neil Greens Tau models. Texts and symbols are freehands.

Whole model is magnetized for the easiest transport.

I hope you like it.

I love this. The base is so intricate, but so masterfully done that it looks natural. The weathering is tasteful, and achieves the effect people should be going for instead "OMFGMUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUD" which is how 90% of weathering comes out looking.

Such a nice job dude, my hat's off to you.

Have to be honest I'm not and never have been a fan of the Tau. They have never done it for me fluff wise or model range wise, however, I happen to think that the Riptide model is stunning and you guys have all done the model justice.

I have to say, I'm really impressed with this model. The base looks so real, I really imagined the Riptide as part of an invading alien force (something that the Tau are). It truly shows what a fantastic base can do for a nicely painted miniature. Also It's impossible to see that the model is magnetized. This project must have taken you a long time.

i'd have to agree, that green riptide is nuts. The lighting effects are spot on, the paintjob is realistic, the BASE is realistic. And it has a birch tree on it, who uses birch on their bases?! lol

I actually copied your method, was a fun model to paint. Unfortunatley since It was my first time using the method, he dident turn out near as well.

This is awesome. You nailed the camo pattern. I also love this color scheme. One of the best riptides i've ever seen.

@ Bonde - dude, yours is phenomenal too.

There's some amazing painters in this thread.

@ Orock - Don't be too hard on yourself, it looks good. A blast of matte sealer might help out a little. With weathering, it's really tempting to go hog ass wild, but that's exactly what you don't want to do - a little bit goes a long way.

I think yours is a bit different from mine for two reasons (I might be wrong). I think the grey you used for the chipping is a bit darker than mine. And I think when you used your wash you didn't remove enough of it. I tend to use more and more oil wash. But for this model I used GW washes. The trick is to work one part at the time and remove it just after putting the wash. If you put wash everywhere on the models and then try to remove it, it will be too late as the wash will already be dry.

The more I look at it the more I want to go for the Red paint scheme of Farsight Enclave with some airbrush smooth transition as I got better with my airbrush since I did this riptide...
