Thje comments made when I deploy the "Dakkadakka Chaos Space Marine Warband"

I once bought many hundreds of dollars worth of Necrons one day, enough for about 1500 points. I intended to field them 10 days later in a series of games at my local GW. Of course most people were expecting me to do the minimum to satisfy the GW rules to play there (3 colors and based).

In 7 days, the entire army went from on-sprue to beautifully painted and with a coherent theme on the bases. I worked my ass off getting everything to look gorgeous, painting for many long hours every single day.

When I started unloading them from my case, the GW staff all gathered around and made all kinds of nice comments like "Wow, you've done more work than most people do all year", and "Getting an army ready that fast is one thing, but making it look this good at the same time is a totally different ballgame", and those sorts of things. It really made all the hard work worth it.

Tau gunline (5th Edition) all in one corner and I had a LRC full of Death Company. 13 with PW and 2 with PF, with a Chappy. I targeted right in front of them (Like less than 2 inches away from his frontline) and popped smoke ... They wrecked face. It was an 'Ard Boyz tourney that I was only supposed to Judge and ended up taking first place IIRC.

An example of how armies and times have changed:

I'm at the Baltimore GT around 2002 (so 3rd edition) playing Tyranids. While deploying, the following exchange happens.

Opponent: Wow, *two* Hive Tyrants?!?
Me: Well, yeah, but they're the only monstrous creatures in the entire army...
Opponent: (still in shock) But still!

I'm pretty sure there was a player-graded comp component that year, and that I got tanked by one person in particular for fielding two MCs. Again, times have changed.

3rd edition Tzeench marine list vs. someone's Dethwing list: " Why are you running your Rubric marines towards my Terminators in cover? They won't do anything to them." After I cast Winds of Chaos, "Wait, it wounds on a 4+, I don't get my 4+ cover save, and it's AP 2?" After I sacrifice a thrall, "Wait, you can do that twice?" During the assault faze, "too bad you can't charge me, they shot with bolters...... wait, they are Slow and Purposeful?"



During a 3rd edition mega battle (pre-apocalypse) we were limited to one codex for each force. I was playing Imperial Guard, but confirmed that I was allowed to use Cypher from a white Dwarf that came out after the 3.5 Chaos Codex.

Opponent: How are you using Terminators, you are playing Imperial Guard?
Me: I'm using Cypher too.
Opponent: He allows you to use Chaos Marines, not Chosen.
Me: They aren't Chosen, they are Chaos Marines
Opponent: Regular Chaos marines can't take terminator armor
Me: they can if they have the Mark of Tzeench
Opponent: You're going to be playing that way, huh?

Last Ard Boys GW held, semi finals game i was at.

I have 9 skimmers on the board with Vekt in my Dark Eldar Army.

The grey knights player i played won the roll but decided to let me go first. Upon my deployment he decides he is going to keep everything in reserve, Semi Finals ard boys mind you (5th edition still)

A guy who is friend with my opponent walks by after i started moving and says to his buddy "Did you reserve your entire army"
my opponent says "Yes"
"Do you have any flyers?"
"No" my opponent replies
"Do you have any land raiders?"
"No" he replies again.
"Well Good game then, this guy just beat you in 30 seconds"

As i turbo boost with sails and line his table edge with ships.

The response a marine player gave me when he saw the Heldrake and Flying Daemon Prince in a 1k game.

I think my favorite one is as I've been play testing a new Paladin army.
"Your running how many Paladins? 15? pft I'll just use my long fangs to kill them."

3 turns later with only long fangs left and the rest of his 1850 point army dead.

the comments after my vindicare one shots vehicles against opponents who have never face one before are always amusing. They usually involve expletives. Seems like hes always underestimated.

First game with my guard after fleshing them into their own usable force. I was playing against my friend, a fellow guard player who chose to run blob/airvets this game. I show up with 2 russes; battlecannon and eradicator, a hellhound and a devil dog. I play deepstrike greyknights (mostly a financial choice) so vehicles are a rarity for me.

friend: So uh Jason..You seem to have a lot of tanks...heh uh whats up with that?

I laughed.

My first game with the new Tau codex. I had 3 fire warrior squads with an Ethereal and two huge blobs of Kroot. This from the guy who never ran anything close to high model count lists with the previous codex.

I put my fire warriors, batlesuits, and tanks down; then reached into the case for the Kroot, and my opponent says "wait...there's MORE?!"

"That thing is only 50 points?!"

Referring to my Ethereal while I was explaining that it would let my Fire Warriors get 3 shots apiece in rapid fire range.

Made me very proud since it was my first real attempt at green stuffing with ogres.

For 40k it was "You can't have more than 3 leman Russ tanks in your army, you cheated."

as I place my GK interceptors, bolter henchmen, and DK's on the table in 6th against a tank heavy guard list (8 russes /varients+ chimeras)( I have played GK since they have had rules for them, even before GK dex)

he gets turn 1, so I OBs put everything in cover, lose a few here and there

shunt up 30 ", boxing all his russes, making all the templates un placable due to proximity. easily getting side armour on the chimeras, and moqing down the plasma vets inside

turn two, everythings gets into combat, he isnt suprised taht the DK's are walking through the tanks, but for some reason he just will not believe me that the interceptors ALL have krak grenades till I show him the dex...


after that it was all "OMG those interceptors are soo OP, only 28 pts a model for all that..."

one of my favorites

heard at the last tournament from a guy who had a horrible "10 year old" silver paint job on his tau, at bare 3 colour minimum, no flesh or eyes on anything, no texture on bases.

his remark to my all painted, textured based, free handed lighting power weapons on every guy, highlight/shading effects, every single scroll had actual LEGIBLE writing on it, with every GK having their own name, and unit # free handed on in gothic script... purity seals with the same, and even LEGIBLE first words on some purity seals... did every single eye with the gem/lense effect and shiney sealer.

his first words "hey, those magnets make your army look stupid... look how stuff just rotates around when I bump it."

I hadn't been to the local store in over 6 months.

Prior to a recent game I was chatting with a guy I played twice almost a year ago about how I haven't had the time to paint like I wanted. When I put my army down he said, "Well, I see you managed to repaint some of your Reavers."

I'm floored because quite frankly I FORGOT about repainting those and certainly didn't think anyone else would remember a few models from a while back.

Of course, my favorite comment ever - from a SW player:

"Reavers? Crap. I absolutely hate those things. Is there any way to get Preferred Enemy against them? Those things are way over powered."
