That's a very real possibility, unfortunately.

The only times I've had similar problems were from Italian and Russian buyers though.

Okay, getting back to the "odd" part of oddities, I'm not exactly sure what this thing is supposed to represent. It looks a little like... well, I'm not sure to be honest.

Well, it says it is a " Chaos Daemon Prince conversion", so I'm going to guess that it is a... Chaos Daemon Prince.

Seconded. I had an Italian buyer open a non receipt case via Paypal (freezing the money from my account) ,30 minutes after he had paid., in other words before I could even have dispatched the item.

His reason was that his post often went missing but he would drop the case once he received the figures. I refused to send them and had the transaction cancelled.

Meh. These things come up quite a bit on eBay. Now, if someone put a real shrunken head on the skeleton of a capuchin or something, and added some skulls or bitz. Then I would take note.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

Needs moar skullz - obviously. Pretty cool item, not sure I would pay for something like that though.

Yeah, that's just a straight up scam. He was trying to get you to send the items and then he wouldn't have closed the case. Good call.

That being said, eBay has a new international selling policy where you can just send to a US location and then they ship to the international buyer from there. Has anybody had that happen yet? I'm really surprised I haven't considering the number of Aussies I got PM's from on items in the past begging for international shipping....

If someone pays the money for it, then it's worth it. That being said, I wouldn't pay anything like that for a single mini, no matter how rare.

Do you have a link to this policy so I can read more about it?

It sounds interesting, and a possibly 'solution' to international shipping shenanigans...

Slightly OT but As someone with a few eBay oddities up for sale how long should one give a buyer to actually pay up?

Sorry; no point starting another eBay thread.

EBay let you start a non paying bidder case after 4 days. I have mine autoset for 8 days but in my listings I tell bidders that if they are having problems paying after winning, let me know as I'm fairly patient. I'm clearing a loft not selling as a business.

Someone once left me negative feedback after I opened a non-payment case on them after 4 days....

I have not tried it yet, but ebay does offer this now. My last shipment was to Canada so I felt confident sending it myself, but I totally plan to use this if I ever need to ship to Italy (as I have heard of the above happening previously). Will see if I can find the details of the ebay service when on a PC.

Its personal choice as a seller. Like I said, I have mine set for 8 days and everything is done automatically. Fortunately I've only ever had 1 non-payer.

It's called the Global Shipping Program (GSP) where you ship it first to an intermediary (Pitney & Bowes) who then ship it to the international location. The buyer pays import duties and such beforehand to the intermediary. It's a bit unclear how P&B handles the importing since none of the packages I received that used GSP so far had any customs declaration attached to it.

The shipping charges/customs duties you pay beforehand are also quite variable... sometimes it's much cheaper than shipping normally, sometimes more expensive. It does come with door-to-door tracking, but it takes ages for the tracking to update.

Most important though is the intermediary confirms receipt on their end, preventing untowards scamming shenanigans.

I've sold a few high end magic cards ($200+) that way and didnt have a problem. Its the only way I offer international shipping.
