Well I know the FCC thinks its okay for kids to watch things like

http://host-46.242.54.159.gannett.com/news/national/article/320777/81/Cops-Mom-injects-child-5-with-meth

on the news.

and the stuff thats on FX and AMC these days for "kids" is pretty amazing compared to this conversation.

Regardless I don't think anyone is implying that drug use is required to play, makes playing better, and in many cases people have hinted that its not acceptable at various venues you would play at as well as discussed the possibility that it can lead to anger and fights etc.

I used to play with a great group that heavily smoked things prior to playing, and during playing, and after playing. I opted to smoke 0 times all the time, and that was totally fine. No big deal. I didn't care that they did, they didn't care that I didn't- we all still had fun playing.

and FWIW a stoned person making DAKKADAKKA sounds when they fire their heavy bolters at something, has always sounded the same as a non stoned person making DAKKADAKKA sounds when they fire at something to me.

I drink a few times every few months, occasionally have a caffeinated beverage and smoke pot a few times a year but I wouldn't call that abuse.

I dotn abuse anything. Very little caffeine (very addictive to many people, not going to be the guy that HAS TO HAVE coffee or energy drink), drink alcohol on special occasions only, saw Weed for the first time in my life a few months ago, never smoked it though, no nothing. I smoked 4 cigarettes but found little goof of it.

I have no impulses to do anything unlike many people I see who smoke, drink coffee or energy drinks etc. Unless its food or water.

I personally think its better and I save a lot of money by not doing these things compared to my friends who do, but its ok to do it sometimes I guess.

So obviously I dont do it during my wargames. We do have a tradition where this guy brings candy to a game and eats like none of it. But I wouldnt call that candy abuse haha.

I rarely drink, whether it's gaming or otherwise, and my drug experimentation is far in my past. I can't imagine any drug I've done making 40k more fun; and with alcohol, I'd be concerned with dropped and broken models.

Actually now that you mention it, I can definitely see how it would enhance an RPG.

Pretty much my story...

At a big tournament (ie, Las Vegas Open!), I'll start drinking towards the end, because by then, I'm no where near at the top.

I'll offer my opponent something at the bar, let's shoot the gak and throw some dice around.

Yeah, it's kind of sickening. I abuse the hell out of caffeine and tobacco while cutting, but it helps so much with hunger pangs.

Heavy drinking and smoking is really unhealthy.

IMO drinking and smoking at all is unhealthy. There are literally zero benefits to smoking. Drinking might give you some short term pleasure, but as you age it can really make you fat.

True story of idiocy: I didn't know how high in calories hard liquors are until about a month ago. I knew beer, obviously, but I thought vodka, rum, whiskey etc were essentially calorie free. I'm stupid like that, I guess.

Drinking in moderation isn't really going to harm you, it's when you drink a lot that it becomes a health concern.

True, but if there's one thing people in America have trouble with, it's moderation.

I don't drink to get drunk and I don't play wasted.
There's a BIG WIDE GREY AREA between 'having a beer or two whilst gaming' and "Playing whilst 4 sheets to the wind".

Drinking doesn't make you fat. Eating crap whilst drinking does. Carbs is carbs, man.

I don't smoke (anything).

Beer helps when playing the sillier games - as it assists you in letting go of any serious feelings you have for the game. You also tend not to care as much about losing (It is impossible for me to care any less about losing when sober. I don't care about the result at the best of times).

Eating carbs doesn't make you fat. The only way to way to gain body fat % is to over eat your caloric needs.

Alcohol is just a calorie. If you're still in a caloric deficit or roughly maintenance you shouldn't gain much, if any, fat. Problem is people tend to overeat when drinking.

I only drink wine. Same brand since I was 8.

I also enjoy Bourbon, but I can't find a non-X-Rated picture that I like. But you can bet I'm still looking!

It's not even about moderation really, it's more about realizing it actually has calories and tracking them. You could throw down 24 beers a week on a weekend binge and not gain any weight if your crap was in check. Not saying that would be healthy, mind you.
