Yeah, getting shot over Jordans sort of brings back memories for me.

The guys could have given their shoes to the promising young athlete who was robbing them.

'Hands Up! give them your possessions!'

is that what you wanted? 'Cause that is what will happen!

Neither scenario is what I wanted. If there was the outrage over this as someone getting killed pulling a gun at a cop, maybe this kind of event would die out.

Shoes are a valuable commodity.

Because the issues are separate. You know this. A protest regarding police behavior is not the same as one regarding public behavior.

If that's the case the police are better off allowing a member of the public carrying a concealed weapon to deal with a situation than they are themselves.

When a policeman shoots someone pulling a fake gun on him it's all accusations about how he should have known it wasn't real and given the boy more time. When a member of the public does so it's 'yeah that's justice' and they're excused from scrutiny. This is further despite the way that I've heard the pro-ccw arguments that members of the pubic carrying weapons are the sort of people who spend a lot more time using and training with guns than police and are more experienced. If anything, by that argument they should be better placed to call when a gun is and isn't real, oddly enough.

Not that I have an issue with either of the shootings as I understand the facts. You threaten people with guns, they take lethal defensive action. I dispute the way some people call it 'justice' in this case. It's not justice, no process of law was undertaken to determine guilt or circumstances, and in either case we don't execute for robbery. It seems very satisfying to a bloodthirsty few that a robber met his demise as a result of his criminal choices. But it's not justice, I don't think the robber deserved to die, they just did as a consequence of their criminality.

Tell that to George Zimmerman. No fake gun was involved, but a member of the public most assuredly shot someone and was heavily scrutinized as a result.

Sadly, history has proven this will not be the case. New continents were populated with people that stole, many hung from the neck until dead, and presumably there are lots of people walking around in Saudi Arabia with one hand for the crime of melon-theft.

At some point you have to perhaps consider that challenging the socio-economic conditions and education of people that steal in the first case might be the way to go.

Or just face the fact that no matter what, there will always be people out there who covet what others have, and will attempt to steal it, instead of work for it.

Related to this "limited edition shoes" thing, recently we had a big shoe store (part of a big chain of shoe stores) do a bunch of limited edition shoes. I went past the store on three occasions when they were doing this. To a man (or woman, as the crowd was pretty evenly split), the (large) crowd gathered outside were were all Asian. I can't figure that out.

And on-topic: See? Guns solve everything. Free guns for everyone! (/cynicism)

Yes but he was a "White Latino", whatever that is. That makes it different because of reasons. Or something.

Theft requires work. Not lawful work, but work nonetheless.

Lets say he did not get opted out and stole the Limited Edition Basketball Shoes. Comes to find out its not his size. So he sells them for a profit. The individual that brought them in turns passes them on to a friend. Ugh to much to think about

I agree. We should definitely change some of the stupid gun laws in the US. A CCW license that is accepted nationwide would be a good start.

Since he misspelled the first word in his sentence, it leads me to believe that he may also not know how "soul" is spelled, which leads me to further believe that the use of a shoe pun in its place is coincidental.

None here, either, unless something shakes out that no weapon was brandished or otherwise no threat to life was made. If it happened as reported, that they approached the people, brandished a weapon and then died? Then, yeah, they asked for that.
