Necrons since they are very versatile. Firepower, speed, and cc capability.
Eldar since I like their fluff and effectiveness.

I like the look of pretty much all the Eldar models which is why I eventually came back to them after some fun with Daemons and Sisters. I may have stuck with SoB longer, but the lack of support made me eventually just give up on them.

Someone gave me a Vulkan He'stan model, so I got interested and researched the Salamanders and fell in love with their courage, flames/melta style warfare and their care for ordinary humans.

Like several other Imperial Guard players, I like the idea of regular men and women fighting against the cruel and horrifying universe, whether they be unstoppable monstrosities, technologically advance aliens, daemons that look like they came out of your worst nightmare, or even super-human demigods of war.

At first i wanted to play CSM cause they were my favorite faction in DOW (yep, i've first heard of 40k thanks to DOW back than) cause they had the coolest voice acting and aestetics in that video game. But than i accidentally Codex Orks 4-th Ed.

On the roll of dice between Raven Wing (how cool would it be to pitch up for a battle on bikes) and Space Wolves (Vikings on steroids), the dice gods picked Raven Wing. The GW shop guy looked at me, and said Raven Wing would not be going into battle listening to Iron Maiden ! Decision made Space Wolves, now how cool is it to pitch up for a fight on the back of spitting and snarling beast!

The bikes later came with Blood Angels, and loads of assault troops with jump packs. Then they changed the codex!

Why the Hammer of the Emperor, why the innumerable legions of Humanity's defenders, why the glorious Imperial Guard?

Because of all the heinous, vile or post-human forces of the galaxy, only one can claim true courage, true heroism, true strength.

To face the horrors of the void with power armour, the power of the warp or a body engineered for war is simple. To face it with only one's courage, one's faith in one's comrades, now that means something.

They also have Baneblades for when courage alone can not prevail.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

Dark Eldar ended up winning out because i like their look and fluff. Their background and characters are really fun sadistic space pirates seemed a fun concept. I like their play style tons of beat stick type units for attacking with without much defense so depends on tactically flanking and picking off my enemy over dropping down on objectives and holding it with heavily armored troops. Also like the amount of flying vehicles they can take.

They have good ally options in being battle brothers with other Eldar and Harlequins two armies that can plug holes in the Dark Eldar army. It's all a balance of what i enjoy reading about or painting mixed with how i like to play the game. I'm more of a zip around doing drive bys than hold the line kind of guy.

IG were a good army. Were a faction different from what other people in my gaming group played. They were a human faction, the super macho marine isn't something for me and unlike SoB , who I found cool too, they were almost all plastic.

Love the look of the Eldar, that was my initial reason from choosing them. They also have the most interesting fluff and fun characters. I also see a theme of redemption in the Craftworlds story and I just love the idea of rising from the ashes to right the wrongs of the past. Gameplay wise I like the specialization and trying to figure out how to make a few squads operate like an unstoppable killing machine.

Necrons: Because they were new, and I couldn't find any Sisters models to buy.

Sisters: Originally? I wanted to play the girl army, if I'm brutally honest. Of course, then I was out of the hobby aside from lore for ten years and had time to fall in love with them properly, so by the time I could afford and had access to a store to buy them, it was Sisters all the way for me.

Guard: I wanted a Valkyrie.

Blood angels because they were the force I got with the second ed boxed set and have expanded ever since.

CSM because I swapped my nid army for an eldar army in 3rd then swapped my eldar for a CSM force in early 4th and have expanded a lot over the last 2 year since I've got back into the game.

Necrons because I wanted a top tier army in 6th for some battles and BA and CSM just weren't cutting it.

Renegades and heretics because I bought IA:13 to benfit my CSM then fell in love with the renegade army list.

Orks, because I wanted to have some fun, both on the table and when painting them up.
If you're not to hot on tactics, they're the perfect army. Mob up loads of lads together, and charge straight at the nearest/ biggest thing on the table.
Plus, there's something very appealing about hundreds of green, shouty, skin-heads barging across the table making a right old mess of everything.

Renegades and heretics for exactly the same reason as Poly Ranger. As a result I now own BBBBAAAAANNNNNEEEEEEEBBBBBLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAADDDDEEEEEEEE (aka eleven barrels of hell). Also named it Diabolus Rex!

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

Here's another question to go along with this one. Why/How did you get into Warhammer 40k????

Cheers, C66

"The space marine officer was waving and yelling to his men on the wall unaware he was leading the Squiggoth on. Stompy (the squiggoth) headbutted its way through the wall and gave chase to the terrified commander as he ran up seven tiers of the fortress, trying to close gates behind him and ordering men to cover his fight. In the end, stompy cornered and pulverised the officer in the heart of the citadel as thousands of orks poured through the breaches he had left behind."

Well I started out with chaos in 2nd, cause i loved the fluff and playing style.

I started to collect Vampire counts at one points, cause i was always a fan of the undead back in Nagash was a special character.

I got back in 6th edition and bought 2 sets of orks from the starter set. but due to uni commitments only realy followed the game via online medium.

7th came about and thought I would get back into Chaos, and i liked DA fluff so decided to collect them. I have now fully got back into painting and working my way through these armies currently.

Nids and blood angels are on the horizon, blood angels as an allied detachment and nids as a full army.

Parents refused to buy me Warhammer (amongst other things).

It was deemed too expensive (admittedly I'm from a poorer background).

So I grew up, got qualifications and a good job and reverted to my childhood - this time with all the stuff I wasn't able to have first time around.

Why did I want it as a child? Soldiers and tanks!

Dawn of War, just before Winter Assault came out.

I had a nascent idea of what 40k was beforehand; some of the richer kids at my school (my school was loaded with rich kids; only reason my broke ass was there was my mother was an art teacher there. We're talking Hawaii for the weekend because reasons rich school) were already into it in their early teens, so I had seen the rulebooks, art and so on, and quite like the style. One of the very first things I saw was a Sisters army, in actual fact. This would have been late 2nd or early 3rd, I honestly don't know.

Fast forwards a few years, Dawn of War is making some waves, I try out the demo, find it totally awesome, play it a billion times, save up scraps and buy it and winter assault at the same time and discovered the Imperial Guard.

I read the books, played the games, trawled the tubes for the wider fluff and such for years, and only got into the game late in 5th's lifespan due to a good friend from my RPG group getting into it, and borrowed his Guard army as I built up my own, swapping out his units for mine until I had my own force. Once I had saved up enough money to finish my undergrad, I went nuts and bought a whole Death Korps army and now have about ~8000 points worth of stuff spread across a few armies.

As much as I hate what the game's become, I don't regret the fun I had.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

I know I had to be Xenos, cause there is way too many Space Marine clones and I need to stand out. Also I like playing on the bad ass evil side in games. (So which to pick from the list of Dark Eldar, Orks, Necrons, or Chaos Demons???)

I didn't want to jump on an army that people struggle to win with, so I didn't go with Orks (this was before their latest codex which I think is totally winnable with now)

I saw how fun, mult-faceted, and versatile Necrons were to play back in 6th (after their reign of terror) so I went with them. I also like that they are quick and easy to paint. Since I do art every day at my job I like something that is 'easy art' and 'complex tactics' for me to get the most out of it.

I am happy with Necrons in 7th because they are still a crazy potent and fun army to play with tons of options. Totally happy with my choice. My son goes with Space Marines (cause he loves Halo) and adores Orks (because he loves the hobby aspect and is a budding artist) so we got an awesome three way combo of Space Marines, Orks, and Necrons. Couldn't be more awesome!

Maybe gonna throw some Tau and Demons in the mix we got going so far.

Getting back into 40k after a long time away at the tail-end of 5th, I wanted a force that 1. I hadn't done myself before (so bye bye Marines, Guard and Orks), 2. would be cheapish and not have storage issues (so strike 2 for the Guard and the Orks, and au revoir to Nid's) and 3. No-one else at my club had it, to provide variety. This left Eldar, though for a VERY long time it was a toss-up between the Tau too, because I liked their aesthetics almost as much. In the end, the "unique" choice won out, though just as big a decider was that I'd loved the Craftworld look and background material since the introductory WD127 (I think - oh god has it been that long!?!?!) and it felt like a present to my younger self!

I've felt vindicated in that choice as I've rarely enjoyed painting models so much. Apart from the usual hell of undercoating (aaaarrrrggghhhh!!!!) they've never once felt like a chore. Definitely more entertaining than my historicals and other fantasy ranges. I guess I have a Space-Elf soul!

Embarrassing to say, but I originally picked Space Marines cause I thought they looked awesome, but my friend nixed that and said he'd picked them first (we were in middle school, so we weren't exactly real mature). So Imperial Guard was the next choice, because TANKS.

Oh man, I wanted to load up a tank line, deploy some artillery, and rain unholy hell down on my enemies. I made him regret picking Space Marines with my S8 Ap3 pie plates all day long. First time I ever fielded my basilisk, first shot it ever fired detonated a land raider killing 300 points of terminators inside (back in 3rd, rolling a 6 with an ordnance weapon insta-killed everything inside). It's good to be in the Guard.
