Also, the material demands for some of these items is absurd. 75 rocks for a cooking fire?

I know. Though rocks aren't too hard to find. Run on the beach pressing e. I was so happy when I tamed my first mount, but then I looked at the cost of a saddle. 80 hides is kind of nuts.

You need 2 people. When the creature turns to attack one of you, the other attacks and continues until the beast tries to get him, then you switch roles.

Beats most medium to small animals with ease. Does not work on huge creatures which require larger weapons or glitches.

I am kind of wishing for a casual mode where you don't lose items on death. It's getting frustrating having to regather everything over and over. Also taming is kind of long. It wasn't too bad taming dilos, but I tried to tame a trike and ya that was too long.

Build a base, get a chest and call it 'respawn chest'. In this chest make a sets of gear for you to use when you need to respawn, also learn the closest location to your base to respawn to.

The more you do it the faster it gets (taming). Also it depends on the level and the hunger. Try make them hungry (knock them out multiple times without killing them) before taming. Taming also requires certain things to go faster, like carnivorous love eggs or the better meat. Herbivorous love mejo berries and so on.

The game takes effort at first, once you get set up it gets easier and then you start improving your stuff.

I have a bed I re spawn too. It's a cute little house with a few chests, but still annoying to lose your stuff when you die. Knocking people out over and over is just more time to spend. I also do use mejo berries and nerco berries. (I also use the potion some times.)

I see, well seems you are on to it then haha.

One more thing I suggest then is to carry light. Personally I carry next to nothing in my inventory unless I have many spares. But I also play with at least 3 people so dying isn't a common thing for me. It also makes taming easier as we can tame many dinos at once.

Tamed a Stegosaurus, built another couple levels on my tower so that I'm taller than a Bronto my tribemates tamed.

Currently stabling :
Bucephalus the Parasaur
Hyperion the Trike
Artax the Raptor
Epona the Stegosaur
Lady Murderface the Carno

I was working on another trike for a load beast, but I accidentally killed it with my Stego whilst harvesting berries. Up to level 39 or something like that. I need to get some screenshots of the town.

Huge caves, under water cavs, distant islands, many technologies to progress, tribe system and more to come (assuming because it is in alpha) and at the same time loot caches for certain levels means there is plenty to do. Depends how fun you find games with no levels or missions really.

It also has raids too. I think only one is in the game right now.

It doesn't really feel like mincraft. It feels more like a terria or starbound. There is a whole lot more game then there is in minecraft.

Only if you are talking about unmodded Minecraft. With mods, Minecraft still blows this out of the water in terms of sheer scale of things you can do.

But this is still great, because dinosaurs!

This is exactly why I've put the game down after having a lot of fun with it on the first weekend. I'm afraid that if I stay with it now I'll completely burn out on it before we even get near to the finished product.

Also, game is kinda pointless without friends.

That is really the big problem with EA. You loose interest before the game is even finished. Not that you don't have fun in that time, but it's maybe not the best.

I wonder how good the Ps4 version will be TBH. I mean, games like this dont last long on console or have that much of a console fanbase. Destiny died fast

As far as I can tell this is slated for a summer 2016 release... so you might be waiting for that console version.

Or enemies

I think this game will do well and keep interest going. Especially if and when they start putting out new maps, and more creatures.

I could actually see this game eventually moving to procedurally generated maps as well.

This game also has something a lot of survival games don't, and that is a hostile environment that is actually freaking hostile. So while PvP is definitely a thing, there is also incentive to band together. Thus you end up with tribe vs tribe warfare over resources. its pretty cool actually. And even at high levels, a T-rex showing up can ruin everyone's day.

You know the game is hard when you spawn and a T-rex ganks you inside of 5 seconds.

I hope they do more optimization in the next few weeks. The game has a bit of lag, even on single player.

For an Alpha its definitely quite polished.

I'm kinda viewing it as Minecraft with better graphics, and a way more dangerous world.

So, my town/tribe is reaching endgameish stuff and diversifying a bit - starting to harvest oil/pearls in reasonable quantities and looking at electrifying.

I've been operating as more of a commodities guy, providing dinos and basic resources since I like building giant ridiculous towers and don't mind mindless repetitive tasks like fiber farming because I just watch shows on my tablet.

My dino stable has grown from

Bucephalus the Parasaur
Hyperion the Trike
Artax the Raptor
Epona the Stegosaur
Lady Murderface the Carno

to include Hrimfaxi (tamed her as a level 29) the Trike
Svadlifari the Bronto
Rageface the Argentavis

I turned over Epona for general use of the tribe in farming berries, as well as an ankylosaur named Rolling Thunder.

I went on a jaunt around the island on Lady Murderface - took a few hours, got about 1600 hides, 3 levels, and more meat than I know what to do with. Killed about 12 rexes and god knows how many other things. Frankly I don't think there is anything currently in the game that can mess with a level 40 carno. In one fight, without any guile or strategy I killed 2 rexes and 3 ankylosaurs without a noticeable drop in health. I like her better than say a rex because you are still small enough to see what is going on.

I also hit level 50 tonight.

I enjoy this game.
