I heard about this during the drive into work this morning. The host mentioned it in such an off-hand way I thought he confused Bowie for someone else.
But yea, some of what happens in this last album suddenly make sense given his illness.
I understood him to be saying that if David was suffering then his passing should be viewed as a blessing since the suffering is now over. I don't think he intended the more callous interpretation: David deserved to suffer; his suffering doesn't make me sad. I also don't think he was saying death is better than a cure.

Also that it was only 7 songs, and wasn't announced before release.
I'm hoping this means it charts this month, give a small smile to those grieving.
Yeah my wife ruined my morning shower with this news. Totally sucks, " Fame " is one of my all time fave songs and I can't help but crank that up everytime it comes on. He will be missed for sure
Rest in peace you extremely talented man - the stars will look very different today
You could almost say the Stardust looks different.
He really changed popular music more than he even gets credit for IMO, which is a ton. I personally I think he changed things up more than the Rolling Stones, notwithstanding the rumor with him and Jagger.
Plus his wife was in Conan. Or was that Grace something and not Iman. She was in something though
She was in Star Trek 6. Grace Jones was in Conan the Destroyer.
Anyway, I also love Bowie's music. However, the song that popped into my head as a tribute was Peter Schilling's homage to Bowie, "Major Tom". From my understanding, Major Tom is a character Bowie identified with and later grew to hate. In Schilling's song, the character releases his earth-bound concerns and goes on to a better place.
It came as a big shock to me, that's for sure. Shocked myself by how shocked I was.
My dad introduced me to his music when I was eight or nine or so, and I've got some fond memories of listening to his scratchy old record of Space Oddity while cleaning the living room. That's the first thing I thought of after the shock.
When I think of Bowie, I think of the movie Labyrinth and all the jokes about the bulge. I'm not really big into music, but I know most people loved Bowie and are lamenting his loss. This thread is actually the first I've heard of his death, and I am surprised as like some others here I didn't even know he was sick. My condolences to his family.
