Nurgle Chosen Marine on a Palanquin

The RTB001 plastic modular marines. Was at Dundracon in Feb of 1988 and saw a couple guys playing 40K with painted figs. Went "cool!" and asked them what they were and picked up a box in the dealer's room. Needed some opponents for the Marines, so shortly thereafter picked up a box of Orks. And then we were off and running, starting with Inquistor magazine and then helping Mike with Mike Biasi Studios and then forming Armorcast to continue with the large scale resin Epic vehicles and Titans.

For me it was less a single model and more a photo of several. It was from a CSM vs. Eldar batrep that showed a Wraithlord squaring up a Dreadnought. My attention was caught and my love for Eldar born.

Now, we like big books. (And we cannot lie. You other readers can’t deny, a book flops open with an itty-bitty font, and a map that’s in your face, you get—sorry! Sorry!)

The first multipart plastic chaos marine kit. I had painted up lots of DnD minis and when my friend opened up that box of build your own mans with that many options I had to get in on that. Sad that its so dated now.

I had been playing already, but one year for X-mas back in 1997 I had been really wanting a good old fashioned Space Marine Dread, and I finally got it. That thing felt so powerful being a hulking pile of metal. Probably the most excited I've ever been to get a model.

What got me in and my first models were when my friend took me to the local game shop and they just had an awesome display of necromunda gangs. I picked up a Delaque gang and never looked back.

Krazed Killa Kan

Playing Dawn of War 2: Retribution introduced me to 40k and its how I fell in love with the Orks. Nobz, Weirdboyz, and Kommandos being my favorite units in that game. Years later when I sold my MTG cards to get into 40k it was the Killa Kan that really jumped off the shelf at me as being this fairly cheap kit that had 3 awesome looking murder trash cans. I really loved the idea of the Killa Kan wall... sadly I started playing in 6th edtion where vehicles are made of cardboard and filled with explodium.

One day, walking home (almost 12 years ago) I happen to find on the floor, a beaky Space Wolf space marine and kept it on a desk for a few months before a friend noticed it, and told me exactly what it was. A little research and Internet snooping and BAM, the obsession began.

Although I never did care for Space Wolves.... still love beaky helmets tho.

It was the 3rd edition battle report in the BRB where the eldar lost. I thought their models looked amazing and I really liked the idea of aspect warriors.
Eldar were my first army I collected to 2k points, though I did try out Space Marines before I went all in

Dakkajets.

I'm possibly weird in that I had a subscription for WD since 2007, but only picked up dice in anger in March this year.
I loved seeing the models and fluff in the magazines, but the massive armies in it made me realise I couldn't hope to play afford to.

Ironically my first venture was into WHFB in 2008, where I bought Sigvald and a box of troops, only to find out it was about a tenth of what I needed. These days it'd be an acceptable AoS skirmish.

Schrott

TO be honest. at first my little brother played it with his friend and I thought it was kinda dumb.

But then I looked into the game lore and stuff and like it. My first model was a leman russ tank (who I still have) and it kept growing from there with 2 squads of infantry (not at the same time due to money issues), then a Basilisk and it just kept going and going and today I have a massive armored legion .

Regiment: 91st Schrott Experimental Regiment

I don't know sure, maybe a forgefiend or a heldrake was greatest. But Dark Vengeance was a reason why I started collecting.

I like idea of warp smiths and daemon forge. It is why I collect CSM now.

The dreadnaught, i was a huge fan of the matrix, specifically the third movie with the entire city getting destroyed and a bunch of mech warriors fighting for their lives. The dreadnaught really got me into it, and after that i got swept up in the lore of the game

I played DoW Dark Crusade and Soulstorm for a while, really that is how I first leaned of what exactly Warhammer 40k was. I then had this idea of having an army composed primarily of Space Marine Terminators.

Ironically it wasn't until 7th addition and after I had formed a large force of Imperial Guard that I finally got a single squad of Terminators.

You say Fiery Crash! I say Dynamic Entry!

*Increases Game Point Limit by 100*: Tau get two Crisis Suits and a Firewarrior. Imperial Guard get two infantry companies, artillery support, and APCs.
