I think an assemble yourself box set would be cool. Say for like 70$ you can pick out a troop choice, a basic vehicle (raider, rhino, viper etc.), and an HQ choice. And maybe you could swap out troop choice for a 3 man elite choice.

(No, seriously. Any plastic Craftworld unit that isn't either massively broken or fifteen years old would be fantastic.)

I just had a thought...striking scorpions and warp spiders both use the power armour level aspect armour don't they? If so, I think it might be possible to squeeze both of them into one kit. They can share the bodies and use their heads and weapons to separate them.

It would be hard to do for some armies, but doing "Elite forces" "Fast Attack" box sets which contain only units form those categories would be helpful to building an army.

For example DE: Elite box contains 5 Incubi, 5 Mandrakes, 5 Wracks, 5 Trueborn, 5 Bloodbrides (hoping by then we have real models for the latter 2)

Or Fast Attack: 5 Scourge, 3 Reavers, 10 Hellions

I'd done a thought experiment based on similar types of Aspect armour and similar poses; tried to work Guardians in too.

Dark Reapers/Fire Dragons: Easiest kit to do. Backpacks, heads, and arms/weapons need to be changed out, the legs and the torso can be the same.

Striking Scorpions/Warp Spiders: Warp Spiders would have to get smaller backpacks and more active poses, but you could do a common breastplate/legs and swap out arms/weapons, heads, and backplates.

Dire Avengers/Guardian Defenders: You'd need to swap most of the torso and the head, but the legs and arms could be pretty much the same. Not sure what you'd do with the grav-platform if you're building a Dire Avenger unit with it.

Howling Banshees/Storm Guardians/Swooping Hawks: This one would be a stretch, the legs are the only real point of overlap (though Banshees/Storm Guardians could share sword/pistol arms and Hawk arms could be used for Storm Guardian special weapons). Hopefully the skinniness would allow it to work.

Shining Spears: Annoying given the recent update to Windriders. They'd either need to have a slightly different jetbike design or be released as a conversion kit/add-on.

I'd have to take measurements but I'm pretty sure you could redesign the grav-tank turrets in such a way that you'd be able to do a lot of variants in one kit. Falcon/Wave Serpent/Night Spinner/Fire Prism/Firestorm all together might be a bit of a stretch, but I bet it'd be possible.

You've seen a lot of combined box sets since then. Remember the Apocalypse Tank Company box? (It was $200 for ten Russes, for those who've been playing for under eight years)

Sanctuary 101 Necrons vs Sisters Starter Set.

Sisters are long overdue (and now it seems finally getting their turn)

Would love to see this as a big part of the Sisters plastic revamp and a chance to make new sculpts for the oldest of the Necrons line. Warriors especially.

I'm changing my answer, I want to see this one now.

(Sanctuary 101 was one of the first bits of 40k fluff I ran across, and it showcases a lot of the limited-POV/atmospheric style GW fluff has lost since.)

I like the bigger boxed intro sets that have full versions of the model kits in them. (We have bought three Death Masque, so I can set up a Harlequin army for Cathie and beef up a Space Marine army with the Deathwatch.) Space Marines and their variants seem to be the big sellers, so I am sure that they will be one of the factions in any new kit. I am glad to see units other than Vanilla Space Marines turning up in boxed sets. (Dark Angels in DV, Blood angels were in one with 'Nids if I remember correctly, and Deathwatch had been in a couple lately.) Deathwatch is perfect because they can easily be taken as allies with any other Imperium faction and be true to the fluff. That makes them a close to vanilla option that will still genenerate sales from Marine players. They are also the perfect foil for any xenos release. Although it's time to spread the love and give the Deathwatch a break, I still expect to see them in the future with Orks, and again with Tau, as well as Necrons someday.

Other fun options would be Grey Knights versus KDK. All kinds of possibilities for a small side game, a la Deathwatch Overkill too. (Don't make the game so fancy that it makes it financially unfeasible to buy three or four boxes to start an army with, though.) I would really love to see Imperial Guard in a boxed set. They could do one with Chaos Space Marines, and base it on some of the Gaunt's Ghosts material, or they could just toss in the alien of the week and make it a planetary invasion.

I also agree with making more "Start Collecting" sets. Maybe they could come up with a "Keep collecting" set that would offer another troop or elite choice, a second leader and a Vehicle or walker that would combine with the Start Collecting set to make a legal, functional army of 750 to 1,000 points or so. Some people up here are running a "Start Collecting" league, where they each buy one box and play them against each other. (They aren't that evenly matched, but what is in 40K?) GW would do well to mix up the units a bit and create some variety. IG and Blood Angels both come with vehicles in the Start Collecting boxes, so they could do a pair of walkers in the IG set and maybe a Furioso and something else fancy in the Blood Angels one. If they kept them under $150 or so, they might sell pretty well. (If they made the contents worth the price)

GW needs to make money by getting the new recruits to buy more models and expand their armies. (Or convince existing players to buy new ones) One great way to recruit new players without scaring them off, (Or scaring their parents off) is Kill Team. Kill Team is a neat way to jump into Warhammer for well under $100. With the boxed set, two Brothers (Or Sisters) could jump in and play for less than $50 each. A single kill team could come in a starter package for about the same price, with an extra set of units, like Tacticals and an assault squad, or a Harlequin troupe and a pair of Skyweavers, or a group of cultists and some Berserkers. This would allow Kill Teams to be moderately competitive right out of the box. The next step would be an expansion pack for the kill team that would allow it to grow up to a small skirmish army of 500 to 700 points or so. They could include a HQ, an elite, vehicle or heavy unit and customize them to match up with the kill team for a higher level of competition. With a program like that, they could even create a competition level for small armies, (Maybe a 750 point system that had a few adustments for balance) People could buy a Kill Team, play a bit, then try out "Skirmish Warfare" rules or whatever they would name it, then they would be able to buy a few more units (Or a second expansion pack) and start playing with the big boys. The key to making that work would be making sure that the units that were in the Kill Team expansion for the skirmish level of play weren't dead ends, but were units that they would want to keep playing in full Warhammer.

Other than that, I would probably grab some Sisters if a boxed set came out. I would also consider almost any interesting pair of factions if they were a decent bargain. Given how well Death Masque is working our for us, I would not hesitate to start my next army with some boxed sets. (Although, I need to either buy slower or paint faster!)

Chaos chosen, chaos havocs. Both with the DV aesthetic.

I'd expect both to be the fully loaded all the options 5 man squads, same price as SM sternguard and devs.

IG options sprues to customise into different armies, like the SM chapter specific sprues, Deathwatch sprue, genestealer hybrid sprue, etc.

Plastic CSM cult options. Either sprues to convert new CSM basic squad I propose or entire kits. 10 man squads but current GW policy would have these as 5 man squads I guess.

Cult troop terminator sprues, god specific with enough to upgrade 5 termies, think the current FW death guard and world eaters upgrades.

New CSM basic troop squad, 10 man with loads of options like the SM tacs.

New 10 man chaos cultist squad, posable. Like the new genestealer hybrid neophyte boxes.

Eldar aspect warriors in 5 man plastic sets with all options, like sternguard.

Redone nid gaunts to add in the other options that are absent at present, 10 man squads.

Conversion kits for the maulerfiend kit to allow more options for daemon engines.

Most of the things in this thread - i.e. GW actually figuring out how to generate real excitement and listening to its players and rewarding large purchases.

Specific ones I would likely buy:

Including a Troupe, Shadowseer and a pair of Skyweavers. We need more formations that don't have Voidweaver tax.

And a Start Collecting! Plastic Sisters of Battle or a full boxed set of Sisters of Silence from FW (yes I know it's supposed to be in WD, but I figure it's only maybe a 5 woman squad) - I would like to get into 30k but marines are boring.

On a second thought, if they came out with plastic aspect warriors, I think GW should continue the 6-man box squad - Exarchs usually have too many options to exclude them. I know the number of boxes I buy is usually based on how many different types of exarchs I want to run. I like being able to purchase 2 boxes and get all 10 standard warriors for a full squad and 2 exarch variants.

Or, if they do 5 man boxes, the exarchs should be separate. But GW would probably not want to make that many different elite clampacks
