Played a game last weekend, against a guy and list that took 2nd at a Major a couple weeks ago. Ended up losing, but in turn 2 I sniped out his CP battery, and he ran out of CP in turn 2. It was a morale victory of sorts.

So envious, the closest story to what people told here. Was a game I had vs one of the best players at our store. He just bought or borrowed an IG army with custodes that just came out. We were playing a store event game, and he got turn 1 and massacered like 95% of my stuff, before I got to play. My turn started and I had 5 termintors in 3 separate units, ah and I forgot to add, he needed to draw against me to get top place and all the prize money. But playing me he wanted to push for the 23/0 in case the guys who were behind him decide to agree who wins and split the win. So back to my turn. I start moving my dudes and he calls counter charge with his custodes. Moves his dude and someone outside calls him out that police is locking his car up for bad parking. So he goes out for 30+min, in the mean time the clock is ticking, when it runs out I call the manger and inform him that my opponent run out of time. This means I get 4 full turns with him only being to do melee and roll saves etc. My 1x1 and 2x1 termintors walk for 2 turns to grab objectives, then walk another 2 turns to grab his home objectives making a huge U turn around his bikers. My army is almost wiped out, but with the objective points and the secondary I manage to get a 10/10. Dude comes back, and the store owner informs him about the game result. He starts yelling etc, but my parents comes in and pick me up to go home. The cherry on top is that the 2ed and 3ed dude of course do split the money by letting the one with most points table the other while doing all objectives. So the guy I played gets something laughable like a pin or something. He wanted to beat me up after that event, but I was always carefule to never leave the store alone or come in when he was waiting.

I played a game of 8th and ran a unit of khorne berzerkers and a lord with the new axe of blind fury(betrayer style) into a squad of sternguard

Over the course of 2 rounds of combat the berzerkers killed all the marines except the sergeant , the lord killed 6 berzerkers.

Only at the third round did the sergeant finally go down.

Man we were laughing our ass of during that fight.

I think my favourite moment came from a Planetstrike game. My attacking army got decimated right away but my greyknights borther captain with the relic hammer showed up and the dice gods smiled on me and he singlehandlely killed: a unit of cultists, a unit of plague marines, a plaguecaster, a terminator chaos lord and 2 fortifications(Aquila fortress and a landing pad).

Slightly amusing tale, but I fail to see how being handed victory by the police would be a very satisfying game moment.

In my very first game of 8th edition, playing kill points, me and my opponent had a very close game. He was down to 5 pink horrors, I only had a wave serpent with 3 wounds left. He smites me for 3 mortal wounds, I save one with spirit stones. He charges me and loses 2 to overwatch. He manages to kill my tank, I use my last cp to reroll the dice to see if it explodes and it does, for 3 mortal wounds, killing his last 3 models. Every single model in the table was dead.

TLDR: Drew my first game of 8th by double wipeout.

The most satisfied I've ever been was my first game, back in 7th ed.

5x Black Templars Marines (lascannon, plasma gun, power sword on the sarge)
5x assault terminators (3x thunder hammer storm shield)
Emperor's Champion

Vs

5x Iron Hands Marines (plasma gun, power sword on the sarge)
5x Shooty terminators (assault cannon)
Chaplain in terminator armor with comi-plasma

We were playing a little fast and loose with the rules, but setting up second, I managed to put my termies with the champion into an absolute doozy of a position, all my trusty suits of tactical dreadnought armor had to do to shatter the Iron Hands terminator gunline was walk round 1 corner and charge.
Only, they tripped.
and then the assault cannon wiped the three storm shields off the map. My tacticals sit in the back, taking casualties and dealing none in return (the lascannon fails to fire a single shot the entire game)
At this point, I'm kind of thinking "man, this is much less fun than painting".
I decide to abort the attempt on the terminators, and instead hurl the Emperor's champion into the Iron Hands' tactical marines.
Another Black Templar Terminator falls to the enemy's fire.

And then...
...the turning point.

My Emperor's Champion wipes the Tacticals in close combat in a single turn. With his final sword brother in attendance, he makes a last, glorious charge into the enemy terminators. His black sword, dripping with the gore of slain foes, he makes his challenge.
Once more, the Iron Hands Assault cannon roars in answer. Once more, a terminator falls. But the Champion remains. I take out about 4 terminators with him, before he finally falls to the scions of the machine god.

Turning a game around with a single model was fantastic, especially as it was one of my favorites, and one of my (at the time) best painted.
In the end I lost, but it felt like a noble fight to the end (except for that one fething lascannon), and about as good as first games get.

One of my most memorable games was from close to the end of 7th, when I started. I had a growing Ad Mech army, and I was playing a veteran 20 year Eldar player (who was playing Chaos this game, because the new rules for Blue Horrors had just come out and he wanted to play test them). The most memorable moment from that game was when I had a Rust Stalker team that lost all but one model, and that guy decided to charge the Pink Horrors. He did a single wound. Now, in 7th ed, demons had to roll on the Demonic Instability table when they lost a model. He rolled either snake eyes or double 6's - it was the result that every single Pink Horror disappeared back into the warp. I don't think I won that game, but it was one of those epic moments where we both just stood there and said "What?"

He was kind of That Guy as well, but he was a good teacher. When Ynari came out, he showed me how a Psyker rolling 7 dice could blow his own head off with auto-perils, allowing 2 Wraith Knights to walk forward. Smart and cheeky guy.

Not long after the DG codex dropped in a 2,500 point game with a gloriously painted DG army sporting 120 Poxwalkers. My Sisters went second and killed five entire units of 20 during my first turn shooting phase, Celestine then charged the remaining diminished unit and wiped them out as well. Never killed Mortarion that game, but I did enjoy an Imagifer surviving three rounds of him trying to aura kill her and failing to do so.

Probably my favorite all time was way back in 3ed, showing up at a 40+ tourney with Sisters. Guy checking the lists saw I was playing Sisters and announced we had a Sisters player. Someone in back yelled out "dead meat", went 5-0 and would have had enough VP's to win the tourney after the third round. Soooo many heavy flamers....

A ton of armies and a terrain habit...

Given that Karol plays Grey Knights, and has mentioned before that there are problems getting games, even managing a draw in 8th is an achievement. Also, the opponent sounds like a bit of an arrogant git, who seemed to think winning the event was his right - I can understand why being a part of stopping that (along with an event organiser who actually enforced their own rules re the clock, which is a novelty) could be satisfying.

And hey, the police were apparently only involved because the opponent didn't obey local parking restrictions - totally a self-inflicted draw...

German has a word for it, which has migrated into English - schadenfreude.

i do agree that the broken leg example is a bit off, but I can understand deriving satisfaction from stopping someone who thinks it is their right to win an event from doing so.

Doubly so if it sounds like they're intimidating local young players (note Karol's comments about their parents picking them up, and the opponent apparently wanting to beat Karol up after the game for following the rules of the event - someone like that deserves their comeuppance).

And, as noted above, triply so when it turns out the cause of the situation was self-inflicted - had Karol's opponent followed local parking restrictions, he'd've been able to finishing crushing Karol's hopes and dreams (and army). I'd have had more sympathy for him had it been a case of someone breaking into his car, for example.

One of my personal best satisfying moments.

Firstly, playing what I quickly found out was a right proper TFG for the first time and beating him. Back in 7th edition, planned a game with the guy having never met him (via Facebook group we were both members of) at a local game store. Agreed upon a point limit, and I noted, being Blood Angels, that I wasn't bringing my Lord of War option (Chapter Master Dante) and that I would appreciate if if my opponent would not bring a Lord of War. He agreed to that stipulation. A few days later we meet up and while he's setting up his army I remark that he's not got a lot of models. He gives me the best TFG "Gotcha" smiles and plops a 3/4 built knight on the board.

I cock my head, make eye contact, and in my best "what the f***?" voice go: "Pretty sure we agreed to no lords of war?" His TFG smile gets wider and says "It's not a Lord of War, I'm fielding it as part of some other thing that technically doesn't use it as a lord of war. I maintain eye contact and tell him "I'll play you, but I need you to understand that it's still a Lord of War model, and that's not what we agreed to play". He mumbled something to the point of agreement but never apologized or asked if he needed to amend his list.

I didn't feel like refusing the game at that point, as my army was unpacked the table and terrain had been set up, and I had set aside some precious time-off to play him on this day.

Suffice to say, I beat him handily. I never destroyed the Knight, but kept him on his back foot, using my mobility to gut the rest of his army before focusing on the knight and eventually getting it to half wounds before the game ended.

Turning the tables on a TFG is always the best feeling.

Take it easy.

Most satisfying? Playing I game I have written myself with models I sculpted myself on terrain I made myself. That was pretty satisfying.

Recently, a unit of Spartan Hoplites in a shrine seeing off a unit of attacking Macedonian Phalangites decisively after they had insulted our military prowess. That was pretty satisfying.

Back in 6th Ed.

2v2, 1000pts/player
Biel-Tan / Uthwe (me) vs BA/Sally + DA

None of the lists were optimal.

We go second. Bottom of 2nd, there's a Sternie squad, a PG/Combi/LC Tac squad, and some nasty DA squad all ready to eat Avatar next turn. We do manage First Blood (... on bottom of second ...) elsewhere on the board, but all our local shooting drops the Tac squad to 3 men - the 3 scary weapons - with the 2 other threats there. My Dire Avengers charge the Tac squad (won't win, but they'll hold them, with Asurmen splitting off to keep the Sternguard busy, while the Avatar wrecks the DA thing.

Asurmen had Fate's Messenger. 3W 2+/4++, reroll saves of 1.

*6* Sternies overwatch. Hitting on 6s, wounding on 2s, failing saves on rerolled 1s.

3 unsaved 2+ rerollables.

They get Slay the Warlord for mine, then Sternies get Slay the Warlord for killing my ally's Avatar the next round. It was the begining of the end.

Turn 3 is a disaster. We lose almost everything. Turn 4 was worse. Only 3 Dire Avengers survive it.

Turn 5, my Dire Avenger Exarch goes to ground, and manages *every single save*. His buddies bite it, but he survives.

Game ends on turn 5.

Exarch is on an objective.
They ignored all 3 objectives in our deployment zone. They ignored one in theirs too. But they moved their guys off a second one, too - one objective each.

2x StW vs 2x StW
No Linebreaker for either team
First Blood. From bottom of turn 2...

We win. By 1 point.

With only an Exarch facing off against 1500pts remaining of various Space Marines...

Playing a 750pts three-player beer and pretzels match to control a relic, my Tyranids vs CSM vs Custodes.

My lictor deepstrikes in T2 on a tall pile of crates above the relic, staying just outside LoS of the killing zone under him.

It waits there for a turn or two while most units on all sides are being killed or heavily wounded. It then descends to the rear side of the crate pile and waits until the last round.

The next turn it joins the fight of my last surviving model, a Neurothrope, against a Shield Captain and a Vexilia bearer, slaying the Custodes warlord by the first blow, dodging the counter attacks of the angry banner wielder and finishing him as well.

A lictor taking out two Custodes characters after waiting for the right time. I couldn't possible ask for more.

Back in 3rd Ed at the end of a close team game my partner and I were down to just a few space marines holding the final objective with an enemy dreadnaught bearing down on the survivors. I peeled my chaplain off to run interference, hoping somehow his invulnerable save would be lucky enough to tie up the machine long enough for us to hold the line. However I managed to hit the dread first with a plasma pistol shot and then rolled a couple sixes to penetrate and destroy the threat. The entire moment was amplified by the good-natured smack talk all around leading up to the dramatic conclusion.

This hero not only hit twice..but wounded twice. The nurgle prince failed 1 armor save...command pointed it and failed again. He also failed the 4 up DR...he also had 1 wound left.

That's not it either, this same pack leader would later slay Necrosius, doing 2 wounds to him. He however was slayed by a unit of blightlords. His body recovered from the gunship, and he is now in a contemptor dreadnought. (Fw one at that)

i prayed for a 6 rolling it for ages, 6!

d6 mortal wounds to everything within 6"
basilisk finished off

10 or so guard from various units killed
commander nearly killed
could of russes dented

very cinematic

for him:
my fellblade charges his poor 1 wound left sentinel, it takes 2 wounds off me on overwatch! then i failed the 4" charge!

My very first tournament game ever, I won with 3 marines on the field all barely alive and on objectives, while the opponent still had a good half-army or so.

Unfortunately, that’s about it. I have waaaaaaaaay more stories that are the opposite of satisfying, because I am apparently god-awful at dice rolling. This extends to all dice games including pen and paper rpg’s, random deck order in card games, and even random number generators for the vidya games. It’s also such a powerful curse that my opponents tend to roll better than normal at the same time.

I hear the phrase “wow I never get this lucky” from my opponents a LOT. The fact that I still get my fair share of wins despite this is a miracle.
